Yuzuki Shiraishi (白石 結月, Shiraishi Yuzuki) is one of the main characters in the anime series A Place Further Than the Universe. A young actress and internet personality, she joins the expedition to Antarctica as part of a media coverage project. Initially reserved and reluctant to form close bonds, Yuzuki gradually opens up to the other girls Mari Tamaki, Shirase Kobuchizawa, and Hinata Miyake forming deep friendships as they journey together.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Yuzuki Shiraishi is a kind and polite girl with a quiet, reserved nature. She often appears stoic and blunt, typically serving as the “straight man” to the more animated personalities of her companions. While she is expressive in her own way, her reactions are more subtle compared to the others. Despite being the youngest in the group, Yuzuki frequently displays a mature outlook, shaped by her career as a child actress and her constant exposure to new environments. However, this early exposure to the professional world has also left her somewhat jaded and disillusioned, particularly with the entertainment industry.
Yuzuki has a strained relationship with her mother, who also acts as her manager. Her mother’s controlling behavior, including forcing her to join the Antarctica expedition for work purposes, has contributed to Yuzuki’s rebellious tendencies and emotional distance. She often tries to avoid her mother when she’s around the other girls and expresses her discomfort through phrases like, “I could just die now,” especially in awkward or stressful social situations such as when others recognize her as a celebrity.
Despite her cool exterior, Yuzuki deeply longs for genuine friendship. Because of her career and fame, she has struggled to form meaningful connections, often unsure of others’ true intentions. Her lack of experience with real friendship leads to confusion about its nature; she initially believes that friendships must be declared explicitly. However, when the other girls express a sincere desire to be her friends, she is emotionally overwhelmed and brought to tears.
Yuzuki’s sensitivity is revealed further when she realizes the others already consider themselves best friends while she was unaware. This moment causes her to withdraw in sadness, culminating in a scene where she walks out into the Antarctic cold without a coat, an act driven by her emotional distress.
Professionally, Yuzuki is skilled and composed in front of the camera. Like Hinata Miyake, she can present a flawless smile and deliver lines with charisma during reports, but as the journey progresses, she begins to express more authentic joy. Her genuine smiles become more frequent as she grows closer to the group and comes to treasure their friendship.
Additionally, Yuzuki has a fear of heights, subtly hinted at in the series’ opening sequence.
Appearance
Yuzuki is a young girl with shoulder-length grayish-black hair and silver-blue eyes. She has a petite, delicate build and is the second shortest among the group, standing just slightly taller than Hinata Miyake. As the youngest of the four girls, her overall appearance emphasizes her youth and elegance.
Due to her background as a child actress, Yuzuki is often seen wearing stylish and refined clothing. Her wardrobe includes a variety of fashionable dresses, reflecting her public image. Her first appearance features her in a long baby blue dress with a white collar and a sky blue ribbon tied at the waist. She pairs this with slightly loose socks and dark blue shoes, completing her poised and graceful look.
While not as outwardly animated as the others, Yuzuki is still expressive in her own way. She often appears calm, passive, or mildly disinterested, especially during unfamiliar social situations. However, when she is genuinely happy, she displays a radiant smile that reveals her joy and warmth.
Background
Yuzuki Shiraishi hails from Hokkaido and is the youngest member of the main cast, currently in her first year of high school. She began working as a child actress at the age of four, with her career closely managed by her mother. Due to her demanding schedule and constant travel, Yuzuki has had little opportunity to form meaningful friendships, often feeling isolated despite her public presence.
Her professional experience has made her accustomed to visiting various locations, and it is implied in Episode 6 that she has previously traveled to Singapore.
Etymology
The given name Yuzuki (結月) is composed of the kanji 結 (yu), meaning “tie” or “bind,” and 月 (tsuki or zuki), meaning “moon.” Together, the name can be interpreted as “bound moon” or “tied to the moon.”
Her surname Shiraishi (白石) consists of 白 (shira), meaning “white,” and 石 (ishi), meaning “stone” or “rock.”
