Appearance

Yumeko’s full appearance.
Yumeko is a strikingly attractive young woman with a tall, curvaceous figure. She has long, thick black hair styled in a traditional hime-cut and distinctive burgundy eyes that glow a bright red whenever she becomes excited. Her features include pink glossed lips and red-painted fingernails (which are beige in the first season of the anime). Yumeko bears a strong resemblance to her late mother and older sister.
Her attire consists of the standard female student uniform of Hyakkaou Private Academy: a red blazer with black trim along the cuffs and collar, paired with a white button-up shirt and a black cross tie. She also wears a black and grey checkered mini skirt, black tights, and brown loafers. A notable accessory is the silver ring she wears on her left thumb, which is one of her parents’ wedding rings.
Personality

Yumeko filled with excitement at the prospect of gambling.
Yumeko Jabami is a charismatic and upbeat individual who naturally draws the attention and affection of those around her, often causing a stir wherever she goes. Her ability to quickly win over even those initially unfriendly towards her is one of her defining traits, and she captures the interest of the entire student body on her very first day at Hyakkaou Private Academy. Her charm, however, conceals a much darker side that emerges during gambling. Whenever she detects an opponent cheating, her demeanor shifts dramatically. Her eyes turn bright red, and she becomes almost predatory, unnerving her adversaries with her intense presence.

While she is generally friendly, Yumeko shows no hesitation in confronting dishonesty. Her perceptiveness allows her to expose her opponents’ cheating with ease, often after only a few rounds of a game. In these moments, she chooses to be brutally honest, openly condemning their actions rather than maintaining politeness. Despite facing opponents who attempt to cheat, Yumeko never backs down. In fact, she thrives on the thrill of taking risks, seemingly immune to fear or anxiety. She frequently engages in high-stakes bets, relying on little more than luck, and even in defeat, she remains unfazed. Winning or losing is secondary to the exhilaration of the gamble itself. She even encourages her friends to embrace the same thrill, though her behavior may appear reckless at times.
Yumeko is keenly aware of her unusual approach to gambling, finding joy in the support and encouragement of those close to her. She values her friendships, albeit in her unique way. Despite the immense pleasure gambling brings her, she recognizes the immorality of her actions and admits to feeling no remorse for those she has ruined in the process. However, she does express guilt over her inability to empathize with her victims, revealing an internal conflict between her love of gambling and her understanding of its consequences.

Yumeko thrilled by the risks involved.
Throughout her gambling endeavors, Yumeko displays exceptional sensory abilities, memory, and observation skills. She is able to notice the smallest details, such as identifying tampered cards with just a glance or determining whether a revolver is loaded based on the subtle weight difference between loaded and unloaded chambers.
Yumeko’s passion for gambling dates back to her childhood. In one instance, she confessed to her aunt that she had always been drawn to the excitement of gambling. When she challenged her aunt for control of the Jabami family, it wasn’t out of a desire for power or wealth, but simply for the enjoyment of the game. Even as a child, she demonstrated advanced intelligence and skill, cheating her way through the match until the final round, when both players could no longer manipulate the outcome.

Despite her remarkable abilities, Yumeko’s youth is evident in her occasional childish behavior. After defeating her aunt, she sensed that she had done something unforgivable, though she couldn’t quite grasp what it was. Her limited understanding of concepts such as money and interest rates also highlights her immaturity. Ultimately, Yumeko’s actions are driven by her deep-seated love for gambling, a passion that has defined her from a young age.
Profile
Past
Yumeko Jabami was born as the second daughter to the head of the Jabami family, a prominent part of the Momobami clan, known for its involvement in the gambling business. Tragically, shortly after her birth, both of her parents died in what was presumed to be a car accident. Following this loss, Yumeko and her older sister, Souko, were raised by their maternal aunt, Tsugiko Jabami, who assumed the role of the family head. Under Tsugiko’s guidance, both girls were taught to be polite and formal, reflecting the high standards expected of the Jabami lineage.
When Yumeko was six years old, Tsugiko revealed to her and Souko that their parents had been murdered by unknown assailants. She explained the curse that plagued their family, affecting female members who possessed striking beauty, sharp intelligence, and extraordinary gambling skills. However, this blessing came with a severe drawback: a compulsive addiction to high-stakes gambling that often placed them in perilous situations. Tsugiko noted that their mother embodied this curse, which likely contributed to her tragic fate. To commemorate their late parents, Tsugiko gifted each girl their mother’s wedding ring.
As Souko was destined to become the head of the Jabami family upon reaching maturity, Tsugiko appeared eager to seize this position for herself. She challenged Souko to a Dice Gamble for the title of clan head and the right to adopt Yumeko. Unknown to them, Kabura secretly lent Tsugiko 8 billion yen to finance the gamble.
Yumeko observed the gamble, and when Souko lost to Tsugiko, she expressed a strong desire to compete against her aunt, feeling increasingly excluded from the family’s gambling activities. Yumeko revealed that she had been addicted to gambling since birth and subsequently defeated Tsugiko in a brief Dice Gamble match. Although she initially sought to return the borrowed money to Kabura, her plans were thwarted when Kabura informed her that events would not unfold as she hoped. Ultimately, Kabura, who had facilitated Tsugiko’s gamble, persuaded Yumeko to embrace her gambling addiction. In their subsequent match, Kabura triumphed, leading to Yumeko’s adoption into the Tsuibami family.
Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler
Yumeko’s Arrival at Hyakkaou Private Academy
Upon transferring to Hyakkaou Private Academy, Yumeko Jabami is shown around by her classmate, Ryota Suzui. As he explains the school’s unique structure, Yumeko becomes intrigued and quickly gains popularity among her male classmates. However, her initial excitement turns to challenge when Mary Saotome challenges her to a gambling match. Despite losing the first two rounds after betting ¥1 million, Yumeko remains undeterred.
Yumeko’s Betting Strategy
In the next round, Yumeko surprises Mary by betting ¥10 million, exposing Mary’s rigging of the game. She reveals that 21 out of 30 students placed rigged cards to favor Mary, demonstrating her sharp observational skills. With this knowledge, Yumeko wins the match, leaving Mary with a debt of ¥8.8 million. Although she claims Mary’s debt is paid since the match was enjoyable, she also thanks Ryota for making the experience fun and gives him money to settle his own debt to Mary.
Friendship with Ryota
The following day, Yumeko and Ryota solidify their friendship. However, upon returning to class, they find Mary’s desk vandalized, and she blames Yumeko for her loss. Ryota explains the oppressive hierarchy of the school and the Student Council’s gambling prowess, which only fuels Yumeko’s enthusiasm. She is later invited to play Double Concentration against Itsuki Sumeragi, where she loses ¥20 million in a close match.
The Rematch with Itsuki
Determined to win, Yumeko demands a rematch under the condition that Itsuki can remove her fingernails and toenails if Yumeko loses. Yumeko quickly realizes Itsuki is cheating and wins by remembering every card’s pattern, confronting Itsuki about her deceit. Although Yumeko is eager to gamble again, Itsuki declines, leaving Yumeko disappointed.
Gambling with Yuriko
Yumeko then faces Yuriko Nishinotouin, who had just defeated Mary. In their match, Yumeko bets heavily and quickly identifies Yuriko’s cheating methods. She mocks Yuriko and forces her into a risky bet, but despite her efforts, Yumeko loses and becomes a housepet. Intrigued by the potential for a rematch, Yumeko embraces her new status and begins to act playfully, much to the dismay of her peers.
Confrontation with Jun
When Jun Kiwatari and his friends demand Yumeko strip for them, she refuses, stating they are not her type. Midari Ikishima intervenes to protect her, and later, during a special housepet game organized by the Student Council, Yumeko and Mary team up against Jun and Nanami Tsubomi. They manage to outsmart Jun, leading to a furious confrontation that ends with Sayaka Igarashi electrocuting him.
Plans for the Future
The next day, Yumeko learns about her sister’s hospitalization, revealing her wealth. Eager to challenge Kirari Momobami, she enlists Ryota’s support. However, they are soon apprehended by Midari and taken to a dangerous gambling game where Yumeko confronts her about gambling for selfish reasons.
The Dangerous Game
In the game, Yumeko loads lipstick into her gun for the first round and cleverly deduces the positions of the cards in the second round. After exposing Midari’s self-destructive tendencies, Yumeko expresses her disdain for those who gamble selfishly. Following this encounter, they go for coffee, where she thanks Ryota for making the gambling experience engaging.
Challenging Yumemi
After learning about Yumemi Yumemite, an idol and Student Council member, Yumeko is drawn into a gamble with her. Although Yumemi initially presents herself sweetly, Yumeko sees through her facade and reveals a threatening letter directed at Yumemi. This confrontation leads to a stage performance gamble, where Yumeko outmaneuvers Yumemi, ultimately winning after a series of clever deductions.
The Official Match Against Kaede
Yumeko then accuses Kaede Manyuda of attempting to sabotage Yumemi’s career, challenging him to an official match. After some initial hesitation, Kaede is forced to accept, leading to an intense game of Choice Poker. Yumeko’s enthusiasm intensifies as she places significant bets, eventually prompting Itsuki to risk her life savings.
The Final Showdown
Kirari unexpectedly reveals herself as the dealer, allowing the game to continue. In the end, Yumeko triumphs, leaving Kaede devastated. Following this victory, she and Kirari discuss their shared interests in gambling, planning an even larger match where they bet everything.
Preparing for the Match with Kirari
The next day, Ryota expresses concern for Yumeko’s safety in her upcoming match against Kirari, but Yumeko reassures him, grateful for his support. As they prepare for the Tarot Cards of Fate game, the stakes are revealed: the loser will be expelled from the school, marking a potentially life-altering moment for Yumeko.
The Tarot Game
During the game, Yumeko draws The Magician card, while Kirari draws The World, leading to a tense tie. As Ryota grapples with his feelings for Yumeko, she encourages him to take a risk, resulting in a positive outcome. In the end, Yumeko celebrates her friendship with Ryota, Mary, and Itsuki, asserting that they are the best friends she could ask for.
Kakegurui XX
In the world of Kakegurui XX , the thrill of gambling intertwines with the intense dynamics of the Hyakkaou Private Academy, where fortunes can change in an instant. The story follows Yumeko Jabami and her exhilarating encounters as the election for the student council intensifies.
Yumeko is buzzing with excitement for the upcoming election, eager for more gambling opportunities despite her disappointment at not using money after her big win against Kaede Manyuda. When she spots Mary Saotome, Yumeko rushes toward her but is stopped. Mary warns her that distant relatives may be lurking, but Yumeko is unfazed, claiming she only cares about gambling. They soon receive an invitation from Rei Batsubami to a deadly game organized by Erimi Mushibami, featuring a guillotine.
During the tense game, Yumeko shows no fear as she cuts the threads, despite noticing the table’s instability. Erimi, the observer, becomes nervous under Yumeko’s relentless encouragement and starts crying. Both Yumeko and Midari Ikishima urge her to continue. In a dramatic turn, Midari cuts the last two strings simultaneously, leading to Yumeko’s victory. However, she becomes furious at Midari for robbing her of a fair 50/50 chance.
The following day, Yumeko meets Miyo Inbami and Miri Yobami, who invite her to another game. After a warm hug from Miyo, Yumeko feels ill, having been poisoned during the embrace. As her condition worsens, Mary steps in to take her place, assuring Yumeko to trust her. With teamwork, they manage to win the game, but Yumeko is taken to a hospital for treatment.
Yumemi Yumemite approaches Yumeko for a gamble, but they are interrupted by Kawaru Natari, who challenges them to a game. Despite Yumeko’s initial ignorance of Kawaru’s fame, she eagerly engages in the gamble, thrilled at the prospect of cheating. Yumeko and Yumemi face a spicy macaroon challenge, where Yumeko’s keen observation helps them secure a win against Kawaru.
Yumeko proposes the Greater Good Game, selecting Itsuki Sumeragi and Kaede Manyuda as her players. As the game progresses, suspicions of traitors arise, and Yumeko proposes a method to identify them. Yumeko and Kaede reveal themselves as traitors to manipulate the others, leading to a win for Yumeko and a personal victory for Itsuki, who retires from the election.
In a live broadcast, Yumeko challenges Kirari Momobami to a gamble. As the games progress, Yumeko’s curiosity leads her to uncover the secrets of the Tower of Doors, ultimately securing her victory by using innovative thinking rather than pure logic. Sayaka Igarashi, overwhelmed by her feelings for Kirari, jumps from the tower, leaving Yumeko to ponder the complexities of love and attraction.
Invited to an auction, Yumeko disregards Midari and focuses on the game. She challenges Rei Batsubami, who drops her façade during the intense bidding. Yumeko’s strategy forces other players to lower their bids, leading to Rei’s eventual loss of votes. Yumeko’s daring gambling style impresses Rei, who decides to stake her identity against Yumeko’s family name. A decisive coin flip leads to Yumeko’s triumph, but she later loses all her auction winnings in further gambles, reveling in the thrill of the game.
Manga
After the War game, Yumeko Jabami unexpectedly runs into Mary Saotome and Ririka Momobami. Initially, she does not recognize Ririka without her mask. Later, in the bathroom, Yumeko encounters Nanami, who is being bullied by two girls. Rather than backing down, Yumeko suggests they gamble everything, which frightens the bullies away.
Feeling a surge of excitement, Yumeko approaches Nanami to propose a gamble, encouraging her to bet all she has. She emphasizes that without taking risks, Nanami will remain trapped in her current situation. Though scared, Nanami ultimately accepts the challenge.
Yumeko soon receives an invitation to a prestigious tournament, buzzing with excitement at the prospect of such a significant gamble. She chats with Mary outside the venue, expressing her hopes for an enjoyable experience, even though they are rivals. Despite the competitive atmosphere, Yumeko supports Mary, urging her to do well.
During the Rock-Paper-Scissors Poker game, Yumeko faces Erimi Mushibami. After strategically discarding her initial hand, she decides to go all-in, ultimately winning with five scissors. Following her victory, Erimi accuses Yumeko of mocking her, but Yumeko explains that her approach involved careful strategizing, and the singles match must be viewed as part of the larger game.
Drama

Yumeko’s in live action.
In the live-action adaptation of Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler, Yumeko Jabami is portrayed by the actress Minami Hamabe. Hamabe’s performance captures Yumeko’s personality with notable accuracy, preserving the character’s charisma and thrill-seeking nature. Although the more overtly sexual elements of Yumeko’s behavior are subdued in this version, her intense excitement during gambling scenes remains a defining feature. Much like her anime counterpart, her eyes turn red when she reaches a heightened state of exhilaration, maintaining a key visual trait of the character.
Relationships
Mary Saotome
After losing to Yumeko in the Vote Rock, Paper, Scissors game, Mary initially harbored anger and bitterness towards her. However, Yumeko held no grudge against Mary. The two later allied during the Debt Swapping game, gradually forming a friendship. Since then, they have participated in several high-stakes bets together, often teaming up to challenge the Student Council. Despite their differences, they share a mutual respect and can cooperate when necessary.
Ryota Suzui
Ryota was the first to show Yumeko around Hyakkaou Private Academy upon her arrival. During the Vote Rock, Paper, Scissors game, Ryota aided Mary by cheating, but rather than being upset, Yumeko thanked him for making the game more entertaining. Over time, their interactions grew into a genuine friendship, with Ryota continuing to help Yumeko navigate the school. Yumeko seems particularly excited when gambling with Ryota, especially when he shows confidence, such as during the Tarot Cards of Fate game, where she clung to him after he stood up to Kirari’s manipulation.
Itsuki Sumeragi
Although Yumeko initially appeared to be an adversary of Itsuki after defeating her in a game, their relationship evolved over time. Itsuki, driven by her own ambitions to rejoin the Student Council, began to grow closer to Yumeko. They developed a mutual trust, and despite their initial rivalry, they now share a friendship built on their common interests.
Midari Ikishima
Midari, obsessed with the thrill of gambling, begged Yumeko for a bet and challenged her to the ESP game. However, once Yumeko realized that Midari’s goal was to lose the game in a way that left no chance for her opponent to win, she expressed her disdain for Midari’s reckless and self-destructive approach. This revealed a fundamental clash between their views on gambling.
