Appearance
Yuji Itadori is a young man of average height with a lean, muscular physique often hidden by his baggy clothing. He has light brown eyes and spiky pink hair (depicted as brownish-blonde in the manga), styled in an undercut. As Sukuna’s vessel, Yuji gains a second pair of eyes and distinctive markings that appear only when Sukuna takes control of his body. At the beginning of the series, Yuji wears a light-colored hooded jacket, high-cuffed black pants, and white shoes. In the anime, these are altered to denim pants and bright red shoes. After enrolling at Tokyo Jujutsu High, he adopts a uniform consisting of a black gakuran-style shirt over a red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes. During the Shibuya Incident, Yuji acquires two scars from Mahito: one between his eyes from a surprise attack and another at the corner of his mouth from their final battle. He loses Sukuna’s second pair of eyes and markings after Sukuna transfers to Megumi as his vessel. Additionally, Yuji sacrifices his left pinky finger when Sukuna feeds it to Megumi and later loses his left ring finger to allow Yuta Okkotsu to copy Sukuna’s technique.
Yuji’s Initial Appearance in the anime
Personality
Yuji Itadori is a kind-hearted and compassionate individual who values life deeply, striving to ensure that everyone receives a “proper death.” He genuinely cares for others, regardless of his relationship with them, and avoids taking human lives unless it is an absolute last resort. His beliefs are rooted in his grandfather’s dying words, which urged him to live surrounded by and helping others. Yuji is also outgoing, energetic, and sometimes comedic, as seen in his lively interactions with Nobara, his eagerness to train with Gojo, and his efforts to cheer up Junpei Yoshino and his mother. Despite his naivety as a newcomer to the world of jujutsu sorcery, Yuji is a quick learner, adapting to his surroundings and mastering cursed energy efficiently. However, Yuji’s experiences have profoundly shaped his ideology and emotional state. After witnessing the cruel actions of Mahito—especially the manipulation and death of Junpei—Yuji felt genuine hatred for the first time, which clashed with his moral values. The Shibuya Incident further traumatized him when Sukuna, controlling his body, massacred countless innocents and killed allies like Kento Nanami while leaving Nobara mortally wounded. These events caused Yuji to spiral into guilt, self-loathing, and a belief that his purpose was to act as a “cog” in the fight against curses. Over time, Yuji’s perspective evolved. He came to reject the idea that lives are tools for fulfilling specific roles and instead embraced the belief that even mundane lives carry inherent value through the fragments of memories they leave behind. Yuji vowed to oppose those who treat human lives as worthless, reaffirming his resolve to save Megumi and defeat Sukuna, no matter the cost. Despite his hardships, Yuji retains his good-natured core, balancing his internal struggles with his unwavering commitment to protect others and fight for what he believes is right.
Abilities and Skills
Overall Skill Level : Yuji Itadori is one of Tokyo Jujutsu High’s most powerful and promising students, with Satoru Gojo placing him on the same level of potential as Yuta Okkotsu and Kinji Hakari. Despite having no prior experience with jujutsu before enrolling, Yuji quickly proved capable of defeating grade 1 and even special grade curses. His innate superhuman physical abilities, combined with his mastery of cursed energy, make him a formidable fighter. Additionally, as Sukuna’s vessel, Yuji is uniquely able to contain the King of Curses with no adverse effects, granting him the ability to perceive and manipulate the shape of souls, a skill crucial in his battles against Mahito. Poison Resistance : As Sukuna’s host, Yuji possesses an innate resistance to all poisons. While he can still feel the effects of poison, it does not harm him significantly. This resistance was demonstrated during his fight with Junpei Yoshino, where he resisted the effects of Moon Dregs, and again during his battle with Eso and Kechizu, where he withstood their Decay curse. Weapon Mastery : Though not formally trained in weaponry, Yuji’s immense physical strength and adaptability allow him to quickly become proficient with various weapons. His natural talent enables him to effectively wield tools in combat, compensating for his lack of formal technique through raw power and instinct.
Curse Tecniques
Blood Manipulation (赤血操術, Sekketsu Sōjutsu) – After absorbing Cursed Womb: Death Paintings No. 4-9, Yuji gained the Kamo Clan’s inherited technique, allowing him to manipulate his own blood. Convergence (百斂, Byakuren): Compresses blood to its absolute limit using cursed energy, creating blood orbs necessary for advanced techniques like Piercing Blood. Yuji struggles with this technique due to inexperience. Piercing Blood (穿血, Senketsu): Fires a high-speed blood beam after using Convergence, traveling at the speed of sound. Yuji used this attack against Sukuna but relied on a blood orb prepared by Choso. Shrine (御厨子, Mizushi) – After landing a Black Flash against Sukuna, Yuji awakened an altered version of Sukuna’s cursed technique. Yuji’s version creates dashed lines with scissors on anything he touches, which are cut along those lines. However, its output remains limited. Dismantle (解, Kai) – A slashing attack that Yuji uses through physical touch, effective against spirits and sorcerers. By forming a binding vow, Yuji enhanced the attack’s precision to separate the boundary between Sukuna and Megumi’s souls. Reverse Cursed Technique (反転術式, Hanten Jutsushiki) – Yuji mastered reverse cursed technique shortly before battling Sukuna. He used it to heal injuries from Sukuna’s Cleave and Dismantle attacks, regenerating his body during intense combat. New Shadow Style: Simple Domain (シン・陰流 簡易領域, Shin Kageryū: Kan’i Ryōiki) – Taught by Atsuya Kusakabe, this anti-domain technique disables a domain’s guaranteed-hit effect by neutralizing its barrier. Yuji used it to survive Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine for nearly 99 seconds. Hometown Domain – Through training with Kusakabe, Yuji learned to cast a domain expansion, recreating his hometown with intricate detail, including landmarks, animals, and memories. The domain’s sure-hit effect uses his soul-rending Dismantle technique, targeting his enemies without physical contact.

Quotes
To Kento Nanami: “Nanamin… I killed people today. I know people die and that there’s no way to avoid death. But people should at least die a natural death. At least, that’s what I used to think… That’s why I was always thinking about stopping others from killing… but now that I’ve done it myself, I don’t know. What does it mean to die naturally?” To Himself: “I still don’t know what it means to die naturally… until I do, and until I can kill that thing… I won’t lose to anything.” To Ko-Guy: “Smart people usually don’t brag about being smart.” To Aoi Todo: “Todo… I can’t fight anymore…! It’s not just Kugisaki, Nanami is also dead. Sukuna killed so many people. So I tried to help more people. But I couldn’t do anything! I’m nothing but a murderer! What I thought was my conviction was just an excuse! I can’t forgive myself.” To Himself (about Kento Nanami): “I’m sorry, Nanamin. I was about to take the easy way out. I was about to use my sins as an excuse to run away. […] I’ll be sure to take on your share of suffering too, Nanamin.” To Mahito: “You’re right, Mahito. I’m you. I wanted to reject you, convince myself that you were wrong. But that doesn’t matter now. I’m gonna kill you. Even if you come back as another curse, I’ll kill you. Change your name. Change your form. I’ll kill you again. I don’t need to find meaning or a reason. Maybe in a hundred years after my death, the meaning behind my actions will become apparent. In the grand scheme of things… I’m probably nothing more than a cog. But I’ll keep killing curses… for as long as I can. That’s my role in all this.” To Kinji Hakari: “I’m just a cog, and cogs have a function. My function is getting rid of curses, and if you’re necessary for that, I won’t give up until you agree. But, senpai, what’s your function?”
