Yokoo Shun

Yokoo Shun (横尾 瞬) is one-half of the Yokoo and Satou duo, a pair of third-year middle school students at Kamome Academy’s Middle School Division. He is a close friend of Minamoto Kou, along with Satou Yomogi, and the three are often seen together. Yokoo first appears in Chapter 18, playing a minor but recurring role as one of Kou’s schoolmates.

Personality

Appearance in Anime

Yokoo has a cheerful and easygoing disposition, often seen smiling and maintaining a relaxed attitude. His friendly nature makes him a welcoming presence among his peers.

He has a strong interest in sports, as confirmed in Houkago Shounen Hanako-kun, where he is introduced as “Kou’s friend who likes sports.” He is often depicted running or playing soccer, showcasing his active lifestyle. A unique quirk in his speech is the tilde (~) at the end of his sentences, which gives him a casual and playful tone.

Despite his love for sports, he does not get along well with his older sister, Yokoo Minami, who is known as a sports ace. The reason for their strained relationship remains unclear, but it contrasts with his otherwise sociable and upbeat personality.

Appearance

Yokoo Shun is a third-year student at Kamome Academy’s Middle School Division and one-half of the Yokoo and Satou duo, frequently seen alongside his close friend Satou Yomogi. He has short, slightly messy hair and sharp eyes, giving him a laid-back but mischievous appearance. His casual demeanor makes him appear relaxed and easygoing, fitting well with his friendly personality.

He wears the standard Kamome Academy Middle School uniform, though he often sports a more casual and carefree look, reflecting his easygoing nature.

Background

As a normal student at Kamome Academy, Yokoo is unaware of the full extent of supernatural events occurring at the school. He and Satou have a close bond with Minamoto Kou, often hanging out together and offering comedic relief in the story.

While Yokoo doesn’t possess any supernatural abilities, his connection to Kou makes him indirectly involved in supernatural incidents. Though he doesn’t completely believe in ghosts, he acknowledges that strange things happen at Kamome Academy.

Role in the Story

Yokoo serves as comic relief, often lightening the mood with his casual, humorous remarks.

He and Satou provide a sense of normalcy in Kou’s life, reminding him of his regular school life outside of supernatural conflicts.

Though he remains uninvolved in exorcist matters, his presence keeps Kou grounded, helping him maintain his identity as a normal middle school student.

He first appears in Chapter 18, showcasing his close friendship with Kou and Satou.

He may eventually get drawn into supernatural events, either by accident or through his connection with Kou.

Legacy

Though Yokoo Shun is not a major character, he adds warmth, humor, and a sense of normalcy to Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. His role as Kou’s friend ensures that Kou remains connected to the regular world, even as he grapples with his identity as an exorcist.

While he currently remains on the sidelines of supernatural conflicts, his friendship with Kou suggests that he may one day become more involved in the story’s greater mysteries.
