Yasuko Yaegashi

Yasuko Yaegashi (八重樫 靖子, Yaegashi Yasuko) is one of the main characters in the anime series Akiba Maid War. She serves as the manager of the Oinky Doink Café, overseeing its staff and daily operations. Though eccentric and often irresponsible in her leadership, Yasuko plays a key role in guiding the maids particularly Nagomi Wahira through the chaotic and often dangerous world of Akihabara’s maid café scene.

Yasuko Yaegashi has dark brown hair, typically styled in a ponytail, and black eyes. She is often seen wearing a pink hairpin on the left side of her head. Her standard attire includes a black button-up vest over a white long-sleeved dress shirt, a red necktie, black dress pants, and black high-heeled shoes. A distinctive accessory she wears is a pig snout-shaped lapel pin on the left side of her vest, symbolizing her affiliation with the Oinky Doink Café.

In Episode 5, Yasuko temporarily dons the Oinky Doink Café maid uniform complete with long black stockings and high heels while impersonating Ranko Mannen after being taken hostage alongside Nagomi by Kaoruko.

In Episode 8, during the funeral of Manami Yamagishi, she appears in a more formal ensemble, wearing a blazer paired with a dark purple necktie.

Personality

Yasuko Yaegashi is portrayed as a laid-back and often irresponsible manager with a knack for getting herself and others into trouble. She is secretive and opportunistic, frequently involving her staff in dangerous schemes without fully disclosing the risks. In the first episode, she sends her newly hired employees to deliver a message to a rival maid café fully aware it would be perceived as a provocation expecting they might not return. Despite her recklessness, she does show genuine relief when Nagomi and Ranko make it back safely.

Yasuko struggles with chronic financial mismanagement, frequently finding herself in debt to the Creatureland Group. Her attempts to escape debt typically involve poorly thought-out or self-serving schemes that often worsen the café’s situation.

Though she rarely takes her job seriously, Yasuko does harbor a personal dream: to retire in Hawaii, surrounded by attractive men highlighting her whimsical and self-indulgent nature.

Background

Yasuko Yaegashi is a former maid who eventually transitioned into the role of manager at the Oinky Doink Café. While details of her past as a maid are not fully explored, her familiarity with the maid café underworld suggests prior experience within Akihabara’s more dangerous and competitive environment.

Since becoming a manager, Yasuko has struggled with chronic financial instability. Her poor handling of the café’s finances frequently results in mounting debt, prompting regular visits from debt collectors—most notably those associated with the Creatureland Group. Despite her mismanagement and questionable leadership decisions, she remains a central figure in the café’s operations.

Relationships

Nagomi Wahira
Although Yasuko nearly gets Nagomi killed on her first day by sending her to deliver a dangerous message, she gradually develops a genuine sense of care for her. Yasuko sees herself as a secondary maternal figure to the young maid and serves as a witness during Nagomi’s sisterhood bonding ceremony with Nerula. In Episode 9, she becomes visibly worried when Nagomi abandons her post during the Akiba Maid Festival. While fishing, Yasuko imagines Nagomi as a struggling fish, an expression of guilt and rushes to the festival, arriving just in time to witness Nagomi being crowned that year’s Lady Omoe. Their bond is acknowledged when Nagomi smiles and waves at her from the stage.

Okachimachi
Yasuko was the one who originally discovered Okachimachi loitering outside the café and recruited her to serve as the Oinky Doink Café’s panda mascot. It is implied that Yasuko is aware of Okachimachi’s true identity. In Episode 4, she offers the panda bamboo while they dig through trash, momentarily forgetting that Okachimachi is actually human. In Episode 10, when Okachimachi’s mascot head is knocked off by Ranko, it is revealed that she wears a pink hair clip identical to Yasuko’s implying Yasuko gave it to her.

Shiipon
Yasuko recruited Shiipon when she was still a high school student. Compared to other maids, Shiipon is more tolerant of Yasuko’s erratic behavior. In Episode 3, the two take out loans to bet on Ranko’s fight, even offering their organs as collateral. Later in the series, when Shiipon temporarily falls under Minori Sano’s control, she ultimately sides with Yasuko during the effort to reclaim the café, demonstrating her loyalty.

Yumechi
As the longest-serving maid at Oinky Doink Café, Yumechi has little patience for Yasuko’s chaotic management and often calls her out on her blunders. Despite this, she follows Yasuko’s lead when it comes to supporting the café and her coworkers. In Episode 5, she cooperates with Yasuko’s plan to secretly organize a surprise birthday party for Ranko, pretending to be indifferent to the occasion to preserve the surprise. She also joins Yasuko and the others at the Maid Casino in an attempt to help pay off the café’s mounting debts.

Trivia

    • Yasuko has a habit of gambling, often placing risky bets and getting herself further into debt.
      • She is likely one of the only characters who knows Okachimachi’s true identity, aside from Ranko Mannen.
      • Her given name, Yasuko (靖子), can be translated as “peaceful child” in English.
      • Her favorite food is yakiniku, which she particularly enjoys when someone else is paying for it.
      • Yasuko is the only café manager in the series who does not typically wear a maid uniform. Instead, she opts for business attire, in contrast to the other café managers and Creatureland executives, who wear maid outfits themed after their respective animal cafés.
