Yami Sukehiro is a tall, muscular man with gray eyes and medium-length black hair, which is messily combed backward. He sports a stubble mustache and beard, adding to his rugged look.

Yami’s attire is simple, consisting of a white sleeveless shirt and black trousers with tan leather covering the outer thighs down to his knees. His trousers are secured by a belt, and he uses additional belts to carry his grimoire. He completes his outfit with black high boots that cover most of his calves.

As the captain of the Black Bull squad, Yami wears a black banner with the squad’s insignia draped over his right shoulder and attached to his left shoulder by two strings. After six months of training, the banner becomes longer and is worn in a cape-like fashion over his right shoulder and under his left arm.

For the Star Awards Festival, Yami dons a simple robe over a fundoshi, along with a twisted hachimaki tied at the front. He carries an uchiwa fan, with the kanji for “festival” (祭) displayed on the fan and robe, and the kanji for “raging bull” (暴れ牛, abare ushi) lining the robe.

Personality

Yami Sukehiro is uncouth, reckless, and prone to delivering death threats at the slightest provocation. Despite this, he is a respected Magic Knight, able to recognize potential in people like Asta when others wouldn’t give him a chance. Yami is a man of few words, preferring actions over talk, but his temper is easily sparked by minor inconveniences, such as being bumped or interrupted.

He has a tendency to use intimidation, often through threatening words or physical actions, and favors physical solutions to problems, like when he destroyed part of the Black Bulls’ headquarters to calm his subordinates. While his approach can be brash and unrefined, Yami is an experienced and perceptive warrior, able to analyze and counter his opponent’s strategies with ease.

Yami believes in tough love when it comes to leading his squad, often assigning dangerous missions to push his subordinates to overcome their limits and grow stronger. He doesn’t discriminate based on social status or background, welcoming members like Luck Voltia, Noelle Silva, and Asta into the Black Bulls, despite their personal issues. His empathy likely stems from his own experience as an outcast in his youth.

Yami’s Dark Magic has the unique ability to absorb and draw in other forms of magic, such asLight Magic, and can even affect beings and objects from the other world. Because of this rare ability, Yami is classified as anArcane Stagemage, making him one of the few capable of influencing the otherworldly forces.

Master Swordsman

Yami is a highly skilled swordsman, following the tradition of his ancestors. He coats his sword with Dark Magic and uses his well-trained muscles to deliver powerful attacks. His swordsmanship is so advanced that he can fight evenly with powerful opponents like Patolli, combining his swordplay with magic to wreak havoc on the battlefield.

Enhanced Strength

Yami possesses immense physical strength, easily capable of throwing Asta considerable distances with one hand. His strength is further amplified when he uses magic in battle.

Enhanced Reflexes

By using Ki, Yami can sense incoming attacks and react faster than others, even countering strikes without looking. When combined with Mana Zone, Yami’s Ki-sensing allows him to anticipate and respond to movements before they happen, though he admits it isn’t as advanced as Julius’s future-seeing ability.

Immense Durability

Yami is incredibly durable, shrugging off hits from powerful attacks such as Patolli’s light blades or Dante Zogratis’s stone pillars. He can continue fighting even after sustaining significant damage, demonstrating his resilience in battle.

Enhanced Speed

Yami is extremely fast, able to keep pace with and even surprise opponents like Patolli. His speed allows him to intercept attacks at the last moment, dodge arrows faster than normal, and maneuver quickly using Mana Zone and Ki-sensing.

Immense Magic Power

As the captain of the Black Bulls, Yami has immense magic power, surpassing that of most commoners and nobles. His presence alone can intimidate others, and anti-birds flee when they sense his power. When pushed to his limits, Yami can grow even stronger, as demonstrated when he escaped Abari’s Different Dimension Sphere and defeated Vetto with ease. His power has continued to grow since then, as noted by Julius Novachrono.

Modified Bodily Structure

Due to the effects of the Qliphoth Advent Ritual, Yami’s body has been altered, brimming with magic power and resembling the devil-possessed Asta, as observed by Grey.

Ki

A skill from his homeland, Ki allows Yami to use a sixth sense to perceive unseen attacks and opponents, giving him a tactical advantage in combat.

Mana Zone

Yami can control the mana in his surroundings to enhance his spells’ power and range. This ability also allows him to stand and maneuver midair, further increasing his agility and combat effectiveness.

Grimoire

Yami wields a three-leaf clover grimoire that contains various dark-based spells, allowing him to channel his Dark Magic in battle.

Katana

Yami’s primary weapon is a katana, a sword from his homeland, Hino Country. He has his sword custom-made due to its unique origin. After his first katana is broken by Vetto, Yami replaces it with a new one. During the battle with Dante, Yami lends his katana to Asta, who coats it in Anti Magic, transforming it into the Demon-Slasher Katana. Afterward, the sword is stored in Asta’s grimoire.

Communication Device

Yami carries a small device that allows him to communicate with the members of the Black Bulls squad, though it can only transmit audio.

Mistilteinn Blade

During the fight against Lucifero, Yami wields the Mistilteinn Blade, a wooden sword created by William Vangeance, imbued with World Tree Magic. After the battle, Yami reshapes the sword to resemble his previous katanas.
