Yamato, is the son of Kaidou and a major ally of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Wano Country Arc. Though born as Kaidou’s daughter and raised to be his heir, Yamato’s admiration for the legendary samurai Kouzuki Oden led him to adopt Oden’s identity and mannerisms, including identifying as a man. His steadfast resolve to emulate Oden and his defiance against Kaidou marked him as a central figure in the Wano rebellion. Despite his initial desire to join Monkey D. Luffy’s crew, Yamato chose to stay in Wano to protect the country but retains the intention of sailing with the Straw Hats in the future.
Background
Appearance in Anime
From a young age, Yamato was groomed by Kaidou to be his successor. However, witnessing Oden’s heroic sacrifice left a lasting impression on him, leading Yamato to revere Oden as his role model. Yamato began impersonating Oden, adopting his name, mannerisms, and ideals. This decision, combined with his rejection of Kaidou’s expectations, resulted in years of imprisonment on Onigashima.
During his captivity, Yamato encountered Portgas D. Ace when he visited Wano, forming a deep bond with him. Learning of Ace’s death further fueled Yamato’s admiration for Ace’s sworn brother, Monkey D. Luffy, leading to his determination to aid Luffy upon his arrival in Wano.
Appearance
Yamato is a tall and athletic individual with long, white hair that fades into a light aqua hue at the ends. His horns, a trait inherited from his oni lineage, accentuate his imposing presence. He wears traditional Wano-inspired attire with Oden’s distinct style, including a loose-fitting outfit and sandals. His kanabo (spiked club) is a weapon of great strength, symbolizing his connection to Kaidou while showcasing his combat abilities.
Personality
Yamato is courageous, strong-willed, and deeply loyal to those he admires, particularly Kouzuki Oden and Monkey D. Luffy. His unwavering belief in Oden’s ideals drives his actions, and he strives to uphold Oden’s dream of opening Wano’s borders. Yamato’s rejection of Kaidou’s tyranny and his desire to protect Wano reflect his compassionate and honorable nature. Despite his serious convictions, Yamato exhibits a playful and enthusiastic side, especially when interacting with allies like Luffy.

His resolve to fight for Wano’s freedom and support Luffy solidified his position as a key ally in the rebellion.
Post-Raid Decision
Following Kaidou’s defeat and the liberation of Wano, Yamato expressed his desire to join the Straw Hats.
