Appearance in Anime

Warabi Hanasaka is characterized by her childlike attitude and playful eccentricity, which often contrasts with her position as one of the Supreme Five Swords. She frequently approaches battles as though they were elaborate games, designing scenarios and performances that amuse her while simultaneously disorienting her opponents.

Despite her outwardly whimsical behavior, Warabi is also strict and prideful, commanding respect through both her theatrics and her swordsmanship. She enjoys placing others in unusual or compromising situations, blending humor with intimidation to maintain control. Her unconventional methods make her unpredictable in combat, though they also reveal her mischievous streak.

At the same time, Warabi is capable of seriousness and demonstrates loyalty to her comrades. While she may tease or manipulate others for her own amusement, she acknowledges strength and courage when she sees it, granting her respect to those who prove themselves in battle.

Appearance

Warabi Hanasaka is depicted as a petite girl with a youthful appearance, often looking younger than her actual age. She has very long, straight blonde hair, which she ties with a distinctive pink bow.

Her attire consists of a white sleeveless shirt paired with a maroon tie and a blue skirt. She carries her katana on her left side, secured by a belt, and wears a two-toned cape—white on one side and pink on the other. Completing her outfit are knee-high silver boots, which enhance her theatrical and commanding presence.

Background

Little is revealed about Warabi Hanasaka’s early life prior to her role at the Private Aichi Symbiosis Academy. What distinguishes her among the Supreme Five Swords is her unorthodox approach to discipline, which often takes the form of games and theatrical displays. Her eccentric leadership style sets her apart from the other members, who typically enforce the academy’s rules with greater severity or tradition.

Warabi is rarely seen without her companion, the bear Kyōbo, who assists her in both enforcing discipline and participating in her elaborate performances. The partnership emphasizes her tendency to blur the line between playfulness and authority, reflecting her unconventional personality.

Her notoriety at the academy grew through these unusual methods, and she established herself as one of the Supreme Five Swords by using both her unpredictability and skill to maintain control over students.

Abilities and Powers

Master Swordswoman
Warabi is an accomplished practitioner of Taisha-ryū, a style that emphasizes both swordsmanship and mobility. Her proficiency, combined with her agility, allows her to overwhelm even skilled opponents such as Rin Onigawara, whom she managed to corner during combat. In addition to kenjutsu, she demonstrates competence in ninjutsu, making her fighting style highly versatile.

Expert Martial Artist
Warabi excels in the unarmed combat techniques of Taisha-ryū, particularly its kicking techniques. Her martial ability complements her swordsmanship, enabling her to seamlessly combine close-range strikes with armed combat.

Expert Markswoman
She is skilled in shurikenjutsu, the art of throwing blades. Warabi can launch short blades with great accuracy and speed, even while under pressure, as demonstrated when she successfully countered attacks from Rin.

Enhanced Strength
Despite her petite frame, Warabi possesses considerable physical strength. She is capable of wielding her katana with speed and control while maintaining constant mobility. Her strength was also displayed when she parried Rin’s powerful sword strikes with precision.

Enhanced Speed
Warabi’s agility is among her defining traits. Her mobility surpasses that of Rin Onigawara, and she has demonstrated the ability to intercept attacks with impeccable timing. For example, she was able to leap atop Kyōbo, her bear companion, to block Nomura from view and to deflect a projectile fired by Misogi before it could reach its target.

Relationships

Fudou Nomura
Warabi initially disliked Nomura for influencing both Rin Onigawara and Mary Kikakujou, drawing them to his side. To challenge him, she kidnapped his friend Masukodera and forced Nomura to participate in her elaborate “games,” where he fought her followers and her pet bear, Kyōbo, before confronting her directly.

Although Masukodera was ultimately rescued by masked girls, Nomura fought and defeated Warabi in battle. His strength and determination earned her respect, and the victory increased his popularity at the academy for his courage and loyalty to his friend. Warabi is implied to harbor a subtle crush on Nomura, though unlike the other members of the Supreme Five Swords, she conceals her feelings more effectively, with only occasional hints slipping through.

Satori Tamaba
Satori is Warabi’s closest friend among the Supreme Five Swords, and the two share a strong bond of mutual respect. Satori insists that Warabi call her “Satori Tamaba” rather than “Princess Satori,” as only her friends are permitted to use the latter title. Warabi accepts Satori’s eccentricities without judgment, making her one of the few characters who is entirely comfortable with Satori’s unpredictable behavior.

The Three Musketeers
Warabi commands a trio of loyal subordinates known as the Three Musketeers. They are devoted to her and generally follow her orders without question, although they sometimes refuse if carrying them out would directly endanger her.

Kyōbo
Kyōbo, Warabi’s trained bear, is both companion and battle partner. While aggressive and intimidating toward enemies, Kyōbo displays an affectionate and playful side around Warabi and those she trusts. Their coordination in combat demonstrates a strong bond of mutual understanding and loyalty.
