Wakana Gojo (五条 新菜, Gojō Wakana), is the main protagonist of the anime and manga series Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (My Dress-Up Darling). A reserved high school student with a deep passion for crafting hina dolls, Gojo is a skilled artisan who prefers solitude over socializing, fearing ridicule for his unusual interests. His life begins to change when his classmate, Marin Kitagawa, discovers his sewing talent and recruits him to help her create cosplay costumes.
What begins as a quiet arrangement between two opposites soon blossoms into a journey of mutual understanding, creativity, and self-acceptance. As Gojo helps Marin pursue her love for cosplay, he gradually emerges from his shell and learns to embrace his craft with confidence. His growth, both emotionally and socially, becomes the heart of the story.
Background

Appearance in anime
Wakana was raised by his grandfather, a master hina doll craftsman, after the death of his parents. From a young age, he developed a fascination with traditional doll-making and aspired to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps. However, after being harshly mocked by a childhood friend for his interest in dolls, Gojo became reclusive and hesitant to share his passion with others.
By the time he enters high school, Gojo lives in near-isolation, focusing on his skills and avoiding social interactions out of fear of rejection. His encounter with Marin Kitagawa who not only accepts but celebrates his interests becomes the catalyst for his emotional awakening and transformation.
Appearance
Gojo is a tall boy with a slim build, short black hair, and brown eyes. He often wears his school uniform properly, maintaining a neat and serious appearance that contrasts sharply with Marin’s bright and flashy style. Outside of school, he dresses casually and conservatively, usually in subdued colors.
When working on cosplay costumes, Gojo is often seen wearing a sewing apron, with his hair tied back for focus. His calm, focused expression while sewing or painting dolls showcases his dedication and pride in his craft.
Personality
Gojo is quiet, introverted, and deeply self-conscious. Years of social isolation have made him overly cautious and hesitant to open up, especially about his love for dolls. He is easily flustered and often blushes when caught in awkward or intimate situations especially around Marin.
Despite his timid exterior, Gojo is incredibly kind, hardworking, and meticulous. He pours his heart into everything he creates, from delicate hina doll faces to elaborate cosplay outfits. His attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile for others reflects his caring nature.
Over the course of the series, Gojo slowly gains confidence, learning to trust in his abilities and value his passions. His emotional growth is gradual but impactful, showing that quiet dedication can lead to powerful change.

-
Hidden Talent Revealed
Gojo’s story begins in solitude he keeps to himself, spends time in the sewing room, and practices his doll-making craft in private. Everything changes when Marin Kitagawa stumbles upon him sewing a doll’s kimono. Rather than mocking him, she expresses admiration and asks him to help her create a cosplay outfit. Though overwhelmed, Gojo agrees, and this marks the beginning of his venture into the world of cosplay. -
Cosplay Collaboration
As Gojo assists Marin with costume-making, he begins to understand the joy of sharing his craft. Each new cosplay challenge pushes him out of his comfort zone whether it’s shopping for fabrics, measuring Marin, or studying character designs. Through these experiences, Gojo builds confidence, improves his social skills, and gradually opens up emotionally. -
Emotional Awakening
Gojo’s feelings for Marin grow as they spend time together. While he struggles to understand and accept these feelings at first, it’s clear that Marin’s encouragement and warmth have a profound impact on him. His journey is marked by personal rediscovery finding value in his work, pride in his passion, and the courage to connect with others.
