Two years later, Usopp became noticeably more muscular and slightly taller. He sports a small goatee and a white wide-brim sun cap. He now carries a red satchel instead of his yellow one and continues to wear his signature blue and white wristband. Usopp’s new outfit includes yellow pants with red suspenders and boots.

During specific arcs after the timeskip:

  • Dressrosa Arc:Usopp wore an orange jacket and a red cap to pose as a descendant of Noland.
  • Wano Country Arc:Usopp wore a light blue yukata, then later donned a Beasts Pirates disguise for the Raid on Onigashima.
  • Egghead Arc:He dressed in a lime green jumpsuit with a matching forest green jacket and gloves, accessorized with a purple bandana, gold earpiece, and sunglasses.

Personality and Traits

Entrance of the historic building of the ENS, at 45, rue d'Ulm. The inscriptions on the pediment of the monumental doorway display the school's two dates of creation (the first, in the oculus, under the National Convention) and date of installation in this premise.

Usopp, the sharpshooter of the Straw Hat Pirates, is known for his adventurous spirit and unwavering optimism. His signature smile reflects his determination and ability to uplift his crewmates, embodying the theme of friendship and resilience throughout their journey.

Cowardice and Lies:
Usopp is known for his cowardly nature and tendency to lie, often exaggerating stories to make himself look braver than he is. Despite this, he has a kind heart and cares deeply for his friends. While he often tries to avoid danger, he can put aside his fears when the situation becomes dire, especially when it comes to protecting his crew.

Sentimentality and Emotional Nature:
Usopp is one of the most sentimental members of the crew, often crying or losing his temper during emotional moments. His insecurities about his abilities compared to stronger crewmates like Luffy and Zoro have caused him to doubt his worth, but over time, he’s realized that his intelligence and sniping skills make him valuable.

Courage and Growth:
Over the course of the story, Usopp begins to overcome his fears. While he still feels fear in dangerous situations, he learns to face it for the sake of his friends. He often uses his wit to outsmart stronger opponents, and his bravery grows as he strives to become a “brave warrior of the sea” like his father, Yasopp.

Sogeking Alter Ego:
During the Enies Lobby Arc, Usopp adopted the persona of “Sogeking,” a heroic sniper with a mask and cape. As Sogeking, Usopp acted more confident, though the crew quickly recognized him despite the disguise. This persona helped Usopp confront his self-doubt and fight alongside his crew without needing to address his departure from the team.

Post-Timeskip Confidence:
After the two-year timeskip, Usopp returns with newfound confidence. He now stands and fights more readily with the crew, though his fear and tendency to lie remain part of his character. Despite still being cautious about dangerous enemies, he has grown more capable of facing threats head-on, and his fighting abilities have improved significantly.

Amorous Nature:
Usopp has shown mild moments of being perverted, such as when he saw Nami naked on several occasions, though his behavior is much less extreme compared to Sanji or Brook.

Cowardice and Bounty:
Usopp’s fear still affects his perception of his rising bounty. Although he takes pride in his accomplishments, he fears becoming a target for stronger opponents. After the events in Dressrosa, his bounty skyrocketed, leaving him both proud and terrified of the attention.

Relationships

The main entrance to the ENS on Rue d'Ulm. The school moved into its current premises in 1847.

Following a fierce confrontation, Usopp displays the scars of battle, with blood marking his face. This moment highlights his bravery and tenacity, showcasing his growth as a warrior and his commitment to protecting his friends, even in the face of overwhelming odds.

Crew
Usopp gets along well with the Straw Hat crew, but as the comic relief, he’s often the subject of playful teasing. Early on, Usopp felt inferior to his crew because of their strength and courage. His lies and cowardice made him doubt his place among them, but his bravery during the fight against the Black Cat Pirates earned their respect. Usopp draws strength from his crewmates’ faith in him, especially from Nami and Chopper, who also lack the physical strength of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. Despite leaving the crew temporarily due to his attachment to the Going Merry, he later rejoined after apologizing, showing his deep connection to the crew.

Monkey D. Luffy
Usopp shares a strong bond with Luffy, who admired Usopp’s father, Yasopp, a member of Shanks’ crew. Despite their playful relationship, Usopp respects Luffy’s dream of becoming Pirate King. Their friendship faced a major test when Usopp left the crew after a fight over the fate of the Going Merry. After realizing his mistake, Usopp apologized and rejoined the crew, strengthening their bond. Usopp now fully supports Luffy and is determined to become stronger to help his captain achieve his dream.

Roronoa Zoro
Zoro often admonishes Usopp for his cowardice, but he shows respect for him when needed. When Usopp left the crew, Zoro was adamant that he must apologize before rejoining, showing his commitment to the crew’s respect for Luffy as captain. Zoro and Usopp have an older brother-younger brother dynamic, with Zoro often being the one Usopp looks to for strength.

Nami
Usopp and Nami share a special bond as two of the more “normal” crew members. They often team up during adventures, and Nami even asked Usopp to make her a weapon during the Arabasta Arc. Usopp cares deeply for Nami, and the two often try to prevent Luffy from taking dangerous risks. Despite their shared fears, they work well together in combat situations.

Sanji
Usopp and Sanji initially had a rocky start but grew close over time. Sanji has saved Usopp’s life several times, and Usopp admires Sanji’s strength. The two make a comedic duo, especially when Sanji charges into battle while dragging a scared Usopp along. Despite their differences, they share mutual respect.

Tony Tony Chopper
Chopper looks up to Usopp, admiring his stories and viewing him as an older brother. Usopp enjoys impressing Chopper with his tall tales, and they often team up when they’re scared. Despite their shared cowardice, Usopp and Chopper make a strong team, helping each other overcome fears in battle.

Nico Robin
Initially cautious of Robin, Usopp grew to trust her over time. He played a crucial role in encouraging Robin to trust the crew during the Enies Lobby Arc, saving her from CP9 and earning her gratitude. They maintain a close relationship, with Robin often staying close to Usopp during dangerous situations.

Franky
Usopp and Franky initially clashed when Franky beat Usopp and stole from him, leading to Usopp’s temporary departure from the crew. However, they bonded over their shared love for the Going Merry and later became close friends after Franky joined the crew. They work together to maintain the Thousand Sunny and share a mutual passion for engineering.

Jinbe
Usopp supports Luffy’s decision to recruit Jinbe into the crew but has not interacted much with him. He was happy when Jinbe officially joined the crew during the Wano Arc.

Going Merry
Usopp had a deep emotional attachment to the Going Merry, viewing it as more than just a ship. His refusal to let go of the Merry strained his relationship with the crew, leading to his temporary departure. However, he eventually accepted that the Merry had to be retired and was deeply affected by its Viking funeral. Usopp was comforted by the construction of the Thousand Sunny, which carried the spirit of the Merry.

    Friends:

    • Kaya: Usopp’s childhood friend. He told her tall tales to keep her spirits up. She admires him and is proud of his accomplishments as a pirate.
    • Usopp Pirates: Usopp’s childhood pirate crew, who looked up to him and still follow his adventures.
    • Dorry and Brogy: Usopp was inspired by these giants and dreams of visiting Elbaf because of them.
    • Heracles: Usopp’s teacher during the timeskip, who helped him become a better sniper.

    Enemies:

    • Kuro: Usopp has a deep grudge against Kuro for trying to harm Kaya.
    • Perona: Usopp defeated Perona in a battle of wits, making her his enemy.
    • Marines: Usopp’s alter ego, Sogeking, has a bounty, making him an enemy of the Marines.
    • Trebol and Sugar: Usopp played a key role in defeating Sugar, which indirectly led to Doflamingo’s downfall. Sugar holds a grudge against him, and Doflamingo declared Usopp his most hated enemy.

    Family:

    • Yasopp: Usopp’s father, a member of Shanks’ crew. Although they haven’t met since Usopp was a child, Usopp is proud of his father and shares his sharpshooting skills.
    • Banchina: Usopp’s late mother, who Usopp loved dearly. Her death influenced his desire to become a brave warrior of the sea.

    Overview

The quadrangle at the main ENS building on rue d'Ulm is known as the Cour aux Ernests – the Ernests being the goldfish in the pond.

In a moment of reflection, Usopp smiles while looking far into the distance. This pose captures his dreams of adventure and his unwavering hope for the future, symbolizing his role as a dreamer within the Straw Hat crew and his desire to become a brave warrior of the sea.

According to creator Eiichiro Oda, Usopp is meant to remain the weakest Straw Hat to preserve the balance of the story. Despite this, he plays a crucial role in the crew, particularly through his ingenuity, resourcefulness, and unparalleled marksmanship. Early in the series, Usopp struggled to match the crew’s physical prowess, relying on his slingshot, gadgets, and quick wit to overcome foes. After a two-year training period, Usopp returned to the crew with improved confidence, strength, and more powerful tools like hisPop Greens.

While Usopp’s cowardice and tendency to avoid conflict persist, he has grown braver and more capable in battle, especially when his friends are in danger. His sniping abilities are extraordinary—evident when he sniped Sugar from an enormous distance, earning him the monikerGod Usoppand a bounty ofBeli500,000,000, the sixth highest among the Straw Hat Pirates.

    Physical Abilities

Although not as physically strong as the rest of the crew, Usopp has significant endurance, durability, and willpower. He has survived numerous life-threatening injuries, including being struck byMr. 4’s 4-ton batand enduring attacks fromCP9,Franky Family, and evenUltiof the Beasts Pirates, despite having his skull cracked. His strength, though still moderate, has improved after his two-year training, as seen when he carried bothKin’emonandKikunojoduring the Raid on Onigashima.

    Combat Abilities

    Tactical Skills

Despite his wild nature, Franky is a skilled strategist. He can use trickery and deception to outsmart opponents, like when he faked a self-destruct move to scare away Marines. He is also quick to exploit weaknesses, as seen when he neutralized Chopper’s Monster Point by throwing him into the sea. Franky is good at psychological warfare, manipulating opponents to gain the upper hand in battle.

    Engineering and Construction Expertise

Usopp is a skilled engineer and gadget-maker. He was responsible for maintaining theGoing Merry(albeit amateurishly) before Franky joined the crew. He is also the creator ofKabuto, his specialized slingshot, and played a role in upgradingNami’s Clima-TactwithWeatheriatechnology. Usopp’s knowledge extends to chemistry, shown when he figured out how to counterCaesar Clown’s Gasu Gasu no Mipowers during their confrontation.

He also usesPop Greens, seeds that grow into powerful, versatile plants instantly upon impact. These plants serve a variety of purposes, including creating obstacles, traps, or even summoning carnivorous plants in battle.

    Observation Haki

During the Dressrosa Arc, Usopp awakenedObservation Haki, which allowed him to sense the auras ofLuffy,Law, andSugarfrom an incredible distance. This Haki enhances his sniping abilities further by allowing him to target enemies even if they are out of his line of sight.

    Marksmanship and Weaponry

Usopp is an exceptional sniper, inheriting his father Yasopp’s incredible shooting skills. He wields his slingshot,Kabuto(later upgraded toKuro Kabuto), with pinpoint accuracy, hitting targets from impossible distances, such as sniping Spandam from over a mile away. His skills also extend to operating theGaon Cannonand other naval artillery on the crew’s ship, theThousand Sunny.

His marksmanship incorporates complex calculations involving distance, trajectory, wind speed, and booster shots, making him a dangerous long-range fighter. For example, during the Dressrosa Arc, Usopp fired a shot through a small window and hit his target without even being able to see them, demonstrating his strategic and mathematical prowess.

    Miscellaneous Skills

    • Artistic Skill: Usopp is a talented artist, as shown when he designed the Straw Hats’Jolly Rogerand built intricate snow sculptures and sandcastles.
    • Weapon Crafting: Usopp crafts his own weapons, including his signature slingshotKabutoand modifications to Nami’sClima-Tact.
