Ultimatia

Ultimatia (アルテマティア, Arutematia) is the primary antagonist of the first season of Ragna Crimson. She was the Dragon Monarch of the last Winged Bloodline and wielded immense power as one of the mightiest dragons. Before rising to this position, she was originally known as Carla Number 19835, a clone of the Solarians’ Dragon Scourge, Carla.

Background

Appearance as Carla

Carla 19835 was born around the year 445 through an accelerated incubation process to meet the dire need for new personnel at the Solarians’ 17th frontline. Like other clones of Dragon Scourge Carla, she assisted the wounded Solarians, using her time magic to accelerate the healing process. In extreme cases, she would halt time for critically injured soldiers, allowing them to be rewound to a previous state where their bodies could naturally recover. However, this magic required an immense amount of mana, and the Solarian Cult prioritized their most devoted members, often allowing the less devout to perish from even minor injuries.

A year later, Carla 19835 began to doubt the Cult’s practices. The breaking point came when she witnessed the death of a senior Carla clone who had exhausted all her mana. This event triggered a divergence in her beliefs, setting her apart from the other clones.

By the year 448, Carla had become the most senior Carla clone on the frontlines. One day, a mysterious Thunder Beast crashed through the fortress ceiling, killing several Carla clones but leaving Carla 19835 unharmed. Terrified, she attempted to flee, but noticed one surviving clone beneath the rubble. As she tried to save her, the Thunder Beast threatened to kill her, forcing her to run. However, pent-up frustration from years of watching the Cult prioritize only the most devoted combined with her first encounter with someone who did not recognize her as a saintess led to her snapping.

In a desperate act of defiance, Carla used almost all of her mana to rewind time, saving everyone present including the Thunder Beast himself. This immense effort caused her to collapse from exhaustion. As she lay unconscious, the Thunder Beast prepared to kill her for defying him only to stop at the last moment, deeply annoyed by the fact that he now owed her a debt.

When Carla regained consciousness, she panicked upon realizing she was alone with the Thunder Beast. However, he calmed her down and offered to grant her a wish to repay his debt. Confused and unable to come up with a real wish, the Beast took it upon himself to grant her freedom from her so-called god, allowing her to save only those she wanted to save.

Eight years later, Carla and the Thunder Beast were captured by the Solarians. Years prior, the Cult had recognized her abnormal magical power and extended operation time, putting her in charge of all other abnormal Carla clones. However, this decision backfired disastrously all of these clones eventually went insane, leading to numerous frontline collapses. The Cult was forced to execute all of them, but took years to realize Carla’s connection to the Thunder Beast, as he had caused immense damage to the Solarians in his attacks. Once they did, they used her as bait to capture him, expending all of their available resources.

Kneeling on the ground, Carla awaited execution, reflecting on where everything had gone wrong. Then, time suddenly stopped everyone around her was frozen in place except for her. A mysterious entity resembling a younger version of herself appeared and introduced itself as the Dragon God. Responding to her desperate prayer, the Dragon God offered her salvation, granting her the title of “Ultimatia, the God’s Wings.” With this divine nomination, Ultimatia was bestowed with immense power, finally able to protect herself and the Thunder Beast but at the cost of betraying her humanity and embracing her new identity as a Dragon Monarch.

Appearance

Ultimatia takes the form of a young woman with long, smooth, pale cyan hair that reaches her shoulders. Her lavender eyes are uniquely outlined with a light blue hue, giving them an ethereal glow. She wears an ornate, low-necked white robe adorned with intricate embellishments, along with a pair of matching white shoes featuring the same decorative patterns

Her attire is further accentuated by a thick golden necklace and a golden bracelet with a red gemstone on her left arm. At times, she is seen wearing a large yellow crown that hovers mid-air above her head, emphasizing her divine presence.

One of her most striking features is her two pairs of angelic wings, which are pink in color. The larger pair extends from her upper back, while the smaller pair is positioned near the lower back. Her robe is specially designed with dedicated gaps to accommodate these wings, allowing them to remain fully visible and unrestrained.

Personality

Ultimatia is consistently joyful, her unwavering devotion to the Dragon God serving as an endless source of happiness. She rarely allows external factors to affect her mood, maintaining an almost childlike optimism even in dire situations. Unlike most dragons from her bloodline, Ultimatia does not share their extreme hatred for humanity. She expresses a level of compassion toward humans, believing that while their fate is sealed, they should at least be granted a painless death whenever possible.

Despite her position as the Dragon Monarch of the Winged Bloodline, Ultimatia’s nature is more free-spirited than authoritative. She deeply cherishes her bloodline, especially her close relationship with Woltekamui, but ironically, her bloodline members are the ones who tend to take care of her, as she often drifts away in her own idealistic interpretations of the Dragon God’s will.

Beneath her outward cheerfulness, however, Ultimatia harbors a deeply twisted psyche. Her devotion to the Dragon God is absolute, but her interpretation of divine will is warped and unstable. Due to the traumatic experiences of her past, she is extremely psychologically vulnerable, a well-placed psychological attack or a powerful emotional shock can render her completely powerless, irrational, and unable to act logically.

Moreover, her compassion toward humans is not born out of genuine kindness but rather from a deep-seated sense of superiority. Ultimatia pities humanity, viewing them as fragile and pitiful creatures, undeserving of prolonged suffering but ultimately insignificant in the grand scheme of the world.

Powers & Abilities

Superior Dragon Physiology
As a matured high-class dragon, Ultimatia possesses immense physical and magical abilities far beyond human limits. She exhibits superhuman strength, self-regeneration, and the ability to project flames and explosions. Like other superior dragons, Ultimatia can spawn lesser dragons from her blood and shift from her humanoid form into a fully realized dragon, which greatly enhances her power. A single superior dragon is capable of annihilating entire armies of tens of thousands of soldiers with ease.

Immense Strength and Magic Power
As a Winged Monarch, Ultimatia ranks among the strongest superior dragons in history. Her magic reserves are so vast that she can manipulate the timestream of the entire world multiple times, even under the normally limiting effects of sunlight. Despite being the weakest in overall combat ability among the Dragon Monarchs, she compensates with her overwhelming mana pool, allowing her to unleash destructive attacks continuously without exhausting herself. In an alternate future timeline, she erased the entire country of Lese from existence using her magic.

Immense Speed
Ultimatia’s reaction time is fast enough to dodge rifle bullets at close range. In her dragon form, she can even evade Crimson’s Sunlight Laser Bombs from a distance, showcasing her exceptional reflexes and agility.

Immense Durability
As a superior dragon, Ultimatia possesses remarkable durability, exceeding that of most of her bloodline members. Superior dragons have multiple layers of resistance against anti-magic weapons, such as silverine, making her highly resistant to conventional weaponry.

Dragonification
Ultimatia can transform into her full dragon form, significantly boosting her overall stats and magical power. This transformation allows her to harness her abilities at their maximum potential.

Enhanced Silverine Resistance
While silverine weapons are typically fatal to dragons, Ultimatia’s superior dragon status grants her an increased resistance to argentum weapons, allowing her to withstand attacks that would be lethal to lesser dragons.

Dragon Spawn
Through her blood, Ultimatia can birth lower and medium-class dragons. Given enough time and experience, these dragons can evolve into lethal, intelligent mature dragons who wield versions of her own signature magic. During her raid against the Argentium Corps, one of Ultimatia’s spawned dragons was strong enough to single-handedly overpower an entire elite dragon-hunting force, and would have eradicated them completely if not for Crimson’s intervention.

Dragon Monarch
As a chosen champion of the Dragon God, Ultimatia is one of the few beings capable of directly communicating with the deity. As a Dragon Monarch, she commands her own bloodline, consisting of powerful dragons who follow her without question.

Blood Ritual
Ultimatia can inject her blood into a subject, transforming them into a newborn member of her bloodline. The maturation time of the subject determines their potential rank within her hierarchy, the longer the process, the greater their future abilities.

Immense Mana Capacity
Ultimatia holds more mana than any other Dragon Monarch, allowing her to cast large-scale, continuous magic without restraint. Even though she possesses the weakest physical endurance among the Monarchs, her massive magical reserves compensate, enabling her to fire continuous, large-scale magical barrages indefinitely.

Legacy

Ultimatia serves as the ultimate representation of dragonkind’s dominance, acting as a near-divine ruler determined to eradicate humanity and anyone who opposes her. Her intelligence, power, and ruthlessness make her one of the most iconic antagonists in the series, standing as the greatest challenge Ragna and Crimson have faced so far.

As the primary antagonist of Ragna Crimson Season 1, Ultimatia’s presence and influence drive much of the series’ tension, setting the stage for a climactic battle between humanity’s last hope and dragonkind’s ultimate monarch.

Trivia

    • Ultimatia’s time magic was originally limited to stopping time, but because this ability was no longer considered impressive for modern audiences, the author added the time rewind capability to make her powers more impactful.
      • Her eye design closely resembles Sarkareth’s from World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, another traitorous dragon character who serves as a main antagonist in the second season of the expansion.
