Tsuyu Asui

Tsuyu Asui (蛙吹梅雨 あすい つゆ, Asui Tsuyu), also known by her hero name Rainy Season Hero: Froppy (梅雨入りヒーロー フロッピー, Tsuyuiri Hīrō Furoppī), was a student of Class 1-A at U.A. High School, where she trained to become a Pro Hero.

Eight years after the Final War, Tsuyu graduated from U.A. along with her classmates and now holds the title of No. 34 Pro Hero.

How many times do I have to say it? Just call me Tsu!
– Tsuyu Asui

Appearance

Tsuyu is a short girl with a slender build and notably large hands. Her appearance is distinctly frog-like; she has a wide mouth that dips slightly in the middle, resembling that of a common frog, and oval-shaped eyes with large black irises and prominent lower eyelashes. Among her family, Tsuyu’s frog-like traits are the least pronounced. She also exhibits several frog-like mannerisms, such as hopping on all fours instead of running and maintaining a posture that evokes the stance of a frog.

During her time at Salty Banks Middle School, Tsuyu wore a traditional white long-sleeved seifuku featuring a dark blue Kansai-style collar, matching cuffs, and a skirt. The collar and cuffs were accented with a double white trim. Her uniform was paired with a red, blue, and white scarf tied below the collar, black knee-high socks, and brown outdoor school shoes. Additionally, she wore a distinctive cyan-collared scarf adorned with dark green polka dots.

At U.A. High School, Ochaco wears the standard female student uniform: a gray blazer with teal stripes on the shoulders, two flap pockets, and gold buttons. Beneath the blazer, she wears a white button-up shirt, a red tie secured with a small gold clip, and a teal pleated skirt. Unlike most of her female classmates who wear knee-high socks, Ochaco opts for black tights paired with brown dress shoes.

Tsuyu’s friendly vibe

Tsuyu Asui is known for her calm, laid-back, and emotionally stable personality. Even in high-pressure situations, she remains composed and focused, making her a reliable presence during times of crisis. Her maturity stands out among her peers, and she often takes on the role of a steadying force within her group. This emotional balance, combined with her natural sense of responsibility, allows Tsuyu to support others without losing sight of her own duties or the larger mission at hand.

Blunt and honest, Tsuyu doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind, offering straightforward observations and advice regardless of how they may be received. While her honesty is a strength, she is also self-aware enough to recognize when her words may come off as harsh, often feeling guilty afterward. Despite this, her candor is rooted in care rather than criticism. She speaks up because she values the well-being of those around her, not because she seeks conflict.

Tsuyu’s sense of responsibility was developed early in life, having cared for her younger siblings while her parents worked. This background shaped her into a dependable and principled individual, capable of handling personal and team related challenges with equal dedication. Her independence, combined with her strong moral compass, allows her to challenge decisions she feels are misguided even if it means disagreeing with her closest friends. She never does so to undermine others, but rather to protect them or guide them toward better outcomes.

In addition to her maturity and reliability, Tsuyu is also remarkably observant. Her quiet demeanor often hides a sharp eye for detail and strong situational awareness. Whether it is noticing subtle changes in behavior or spotting threats others overlook, Tsuyu brings a thoughtful and strategic approach to any situation. Recovery Girl once described her as a perfect pillar of emotional support, a fitting title for someone who not only grounds her peers emotionally but also contributes meaningfully to their growth as heroes.

Tsuyu’s usual expression is a blank, vacant stare, which often makes it difficult for others to read her thoughts or emotions. This unreadable demeanor can sometimes unsettle those around her. She also has a habit of pressing a finger to her lips while speaking, thinking, or expressing curiosity, a subtle mannerism that reflects her frog-like nature. Additionally, she frequently ends her sentences with “ribbit,” mimicking the sound of a frog’s croak, or uses it in place of short, single-word replies.

During the Final War, Tsuyu demonstrated significant personal growth, becoming more flexible in her beliefs. She confessed to Himiko Toga that she once believed being a hero meant strictly following the rules while breaking them made someone a villain. However, her perspective evolved as she came to understand the complexities of people and their choices. Rather than viewing the world in black and white, Tsuyu supported Ochaco’s decision to reach out to Toga not through violence or capture but through compassion. She pleaded with Toga to give Ochaco a chance to speak with her, recognizing that true heroism sometimes means setting aside the rules to do what is right even when it is far more difficult.

Abilities and Skills

Tsuyu is shown clinging to a wall, using her frog-like abilities.

Tsuyu Asui’s Frog Quirk grants her a wide range of enhanced physical and unique biological abilities. Among her most notable traits is her incredible jumping ability, allowing her to leap great heights and distances with ease. She is also an exceptional swimmer, moving quickly and gracefully through water, which makes her highly versatile in aquatic environments. One of her signature powers is her extendable tongue, which can reach up to 20 meters and is strong enough to lift a person. Tsuyu uses this ability skillfully to grab objects or allies in various situations. Additionally, she can cling to and move along walls or other surfaces, similar to a frog.

Beyond her physical prowess, Tsuyu possesses several biological adaptations that aid in defense and utility. She can store objects inside her stomach and retrieve them later by regurgitation, an unusual but practical ability in combat or rescue scenarios. Her body can emit a non-lethal toxic substance from her stomach that causes irritation and stinging, providing a defensive mechanism against enemies. Tsuyu also secretes mucus from her arms, which can confuse opponents who rely on smell and may have a paralyzing effect, adding another layer to her non-lethal combat techniques.

In addition to her Quirk-based powers, Tsuyu is intelligent and perceptive, known for quickly understanding complex situations and making thoughtful decisions. She has trained extensively in hand-to-hand combat, which complements her natural abilities and makes her a well-rounded fighter. Her superhuman stamina enables her to sustain prolonged battles or missions without tiring easily, ensuring she remains effective in the field for extended periods.
