Tsuguhito Yuta (由多 次人, Yuta Tsuguhito) is one of the main characters in the anime series Kiznaiver. He is portrayed as a cold and calculating honor student, known for his intelligence and composed demeanor. Despite his popularity among the girls in his class due to his good looks and top academic performance, Yuta deliberately distances himself from his male classmates and maintains an aloof persona.
As a participant in the Kizna System, which links individuals through shared pain, Yuta is forced to confront the emotional barriers he has carefully constructed. His role in the series explores the themes of emotional vulnerability, hidden identity, and social connection, as he gradually reveals a more complex and conflicted side beneath his seemingly perfect exterior.
Appearance

Yuta Tsuguhito is a tall and attractive young man, standing at approximately 178 cm. He has short teal-colored hair with crooked bangs that partially frame his face. His resting expression often appears sly or mischievous, which adds to his mysterious and cool persona.
He wears the standard school uniform, similar to Katsuhira Agata, consisting of a light-colored shirt, dark pants, and a uniform jacket. His overall look aligns closely with the “bishōnen” (beautiful boy) archetype an elegant and polished appearance that contributes to his popularity among female classmates.
Personality
Yuta Tsuguhito presents himself as a confident, opportunistic, and flirtatious honor student, often taking advantage of his good looks and charm in social situations, especially around girls. He places a high value on appearances and is typically seen associating with others who are similarly attractive. However, beneath his polished exterior lies a deeply insecure side—he harbors intense shame over having been severely overweight during his grade school years, a fact he goes to great lengths to hide from others.
Despite his superficial tendencies, Yuta is shown to be more perceptive and emotionally intelligent than he initially appears. He is capable of looking past physical appearances, especially as he grows closer to the other Kiznaivers and begins to experience emotional vulnerability through their shared pain. He speaks honestly and bluntly, often without sugarcoating his words, as seen when he directly told Honoka Maki that she had a “terrible personality.”
While he may come off as vain or aloof, Yuta possesses a genuinely kind heart and a growing capacity for empathy. As the series progresses, he learns to confront both his insecurities and the emotional complexities of those around him, revealing a far more nuanced personality than he lets on.
Plot
At the beginning of Kiznaiver, Yuta Tsuguhito is introduced as a popular and intelligent student who notably prefers the company of girls over boys. His fox-like appearance and charismatic presence contribute to his reputation as a charming yet aloof figure within the classroom.
Initially, Yuta keeps his emotional distance from others, maintaining his polished image and avoiding any situations that might expose his insecurities. However, after being forcibly connected to the Kizna System, which links him to several of his classmates through shared physical and emotional pain, he is drawn into a series of events that challenge his self-image and emotional boundaries.
Through the experiences shared with the other Kiznaivers, particularly with Honoka Maki, Yuta is forced to confront his past insecurities, including his concealed history of childhood obesity. As he becomes more emotionally involved with the group, he begins to show greater depth, revealing empathy, insight, and genuine care for his peers qualities that had previously been hidden beneath his superficial exterior.
Relationships
Honoka Maki
At first, Yuta’s interest in Honoka Maki appeared superficial, as he casually invited her to karaoke, only to be bluntly rejected. However, as the group faced the emotional and physical challenges of the Kizna System, his feelings for her grew into something more genuine. In Episode 5, Honoka attempted to push Yuta away by pretending to seduce him, hoping to discourage any emotional closeness. Despite this, Yuta continued to show concern for her, ultimately supporting her through the emotional trials related to her painful past.
Their bond is subtly highlighted in Episode 12, where they share a quiet moment after the climax of the series. As they eat together, Honoka jokingly offers Yuta a bite of her food, leading to an “indirect kiss.” When he questions her intentions, she replies that she wants him to gain weight so people would stop chasing him for his looks, teasing him in a way that shows a budding connection. Yuta’s embarrassed reaction and his playful chase after her hint at a potential romantic undertone between the two.
Yoshiharu Hisomu
Yuta shows a clear dislike for Yoshiharu Hisomu, stemming largely from Hisomu’s natural attractiveness, which makes Yuta self-conscious about his own “artificial” appearance and carefully maintained image. His discomfort is amplified by Hisomu’s masochistic tendencies, which disturb Yuta more than they do the others, especially after the events of Episode 3.
Katsuhira Agata, Nico Niyama, Chidori Takashiro, Hajime Tenga
Initially, Yuta shows reluctance to associate with the other Kiznaivers. While he does not actively dislike Katsuhira, Nico, Chidori, or Tenga, he wishes to remain uninvolved with them, likely due to his desire to maintain a specific image. Over time, however, he begins to soften toward the group and starts valuing their companionship. In Episode 12, Yuta finally acknowledges their friendship, showing that the emotional bonds formed through the Kizna System had a lasting impact on him.
Noriko Sonozaki
Yuta and Noriko Sonozaki maintain a mutually indifferent relationship. They rarely interact on a personal level, and neither seems particularly interested in developing a deeper connection.
