Tasuku Uehara (上原 祐, Uehara Tasuku) is one of the main supporting characters and a deuteragonist in the Gamers! anime and light novel series. He is a second-year student in Class 2-F at Otobuki High School and a classmate of Keita Amano. Tasuku is also the boyfriend of Aguri Sakurano. While he presents himself as a popular and outgoing student, he secretly harbors a deep passion for video games, which plays a significant role in his involvement with the main cast.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
At first glance, Tasuku Uehara appears to be a confident, outgoing, and somewhat arrogant individual. In his introduction, he internally congratulates himself for impressing his attractive girlfriend, Aguri Sakurano, and takes pride in his popularity. His initial reaction upon seeing Keita Amano alone at a park reflects this inflated self-image, as he labels Keita a “loser.” However, he is taken aback the next day upon witnessing Keita conversing with Karen Tendō, the most admired girl at school.
Beneath his confident exterior, however, Tasuku hides a more vulnerable side. His arrogant persona is a mask for a painful past as a former social outcast and self-proclaimed “nerd” who was often bullied. This backstory surfaces during a confrontation with Keita, when Tasuku lashes out after being compared to the stereotypical popular crowd. His anger escalates until Keita defends Karen and the Game Club, challenging Tasuku’s assumptions. Moved by Keita’s words and passion, Tasuku realizes that Keita is nothing like the people who once tormented him, leading to a mutual understanding and the start of their friendship.
Tasuku proves to be a supportive and observant friend. He takes it upon himself to help Keita connect with Karen, recognizing her growing affection for him. He even introduces Keita to Chiaki Hoshinomori, intending for Keita to gain more confidence in social interactions, though his efforts sometimes backfire and take a toll on his own time with Aguri.
Unlike Keita, Tasuku is highly perceptive when it comes to romantic dynamics. He quickly deduces Karen’s feelings for Keita after their confrontation and identifies the strong compatibility between Keita and Chiaki, even realizing Chiaki’s identity as Keita’s online gaming friend before she does. He also observes Chiaki’s emotional shift once she discovers the truth, and is notably exasperated by how long it takes for her to realize her own feelings.
Tasuku’s relationship with Aguri deepens after he learns she has loved him since junior high. Touched by her loyalty and support, he becomes more emotionally invested and affectionate. This is reflected in his more assertive actions, such as holding Aguri’s hand on two separate occasions gestures that surprise her and signify the evolution of their relationship.
Appearance
Tasuku Uehara is a good-looking young man of average height with slightly tan skin, short brown hair, and brown eyes. His appearance and charm make him well-known among the popular students at Otobuki High School.
In middle school, Tasuku had a noticeably different look, he wore glasses and styled his hair differently. At the time, he was considered a nerd and was often picked on. Determined to change how others perceived him, he reinvented his image upon entering high school.
Background
In his early years, Tasuku Uehara was an avid gamer who, much like Keita Amano, was frequently teased and mocked for his nerdy interests and behavior. To cope with the stress and isolation, he often spent time at arcades, where he found solace in gaming. During one visit, he gave a stuffed cat he had won to a girl who had been quietly watching him play—a moment that would linger in his memory.
Frustrated with his social standing and appearance, Tasuku made the decision to reinvent himself before entering high school. He changed his hairstyle, abandoned his glasses, and crafted a more socially acceptable image. His transformation proved successful, as he quickly rose in popularity at Otobuki High School and began dating Aguri Sakurano. Relishing his newfound social status, Tasuku embraced his new life, finally experiencing the attention and acceptance he had long desired.
Although no longer a hardcore gamer, Tasuku continued to play games casually and would occasionally win stuffed animals from arcade machines to give to Aguri as affectionate gifts.
Etymology
The given name Tasuku (祐) means “help” or “assist.” His surname, Uehara (上原), is composed of the kanji ue (上), meaning “above,” “top,” or “upper,” and hara (原), meaning “field” or “plain.”
