Takina Inoue

Takina Inoue (井ノ上 たきな, Inoue Takina), is one of the main characters in the original anime series Lycoris Recoil. A highly skilled Lycoris agent known for her sharp instincts and cool-headed efficiency, Takina was once partnered with Fuki Harukawa as part of the central command. However, after acting on her own during a mission and disobeying orders to protect a fellow agent, she was demoted and transferred to the more casual, low-profile post at Café LycoReco.

There, she was partnered with the cheerful and unorthodox Chisato Nishikigi, whose ideals and personality sharply contrast her own. Their evolving relationship forms the emotional core of the series, with Takina gradually learning to balance duty with empathy, and redefining her understanding of what it truly means to protect others.

Appearance in anime

Takina was raised and trained by the DA (Direct Attack) organization, an elite group tasked with covertly eliminating threats to public safety using female agents known as Lycoris. From a young age, she was conditioned for obedience and tactical excellence, becoming one of the DA’s top performers. Her previous partnership with Fuki Harukawa was based on coordinated precision and shared professionalism.

During a mission to stop an arms deal, Takina chose to break protocol in order to save a fellow Lycoris, an action that, while morally driven, resulted in her dismissal from the DA’s main force. She was reassigned to the LycoReco branch, an undercover café that doubles as a base for more independent, unconventional missions. Though initially frustrated by the reassignment, Takina’s time there proves transformative.

Appearance

Takina has a slender build, fair skin, and long dark blue-black hair typically tied in a ponytail. She has sharp violet eyes and usually wears her standard Lycoris uniform, consisting of a dark blazer, red tie, and skirt, which reflects her disciplined and formal demeanor.

In casual settings at LycoReco, she sometimes wears simpler outfits, though she remains reserved in her fashion. Her posture is always upright, and her body language is precise, reflecting her disciplined training.

Personality

Takina is initially portrayed as serious, stoic, and mission-oriented, with little patience for casual distractions or inefficiency. She has a strong sense of justice and prioritizes success and results, even at personal risk. However, her rigid adherence to protocol and order also reveals her emotional repression and loneliness, a result of her upbringing in the DA system.

After meeting Chisato, Takina begins to open up emotionally, showing signs of curiosity, warmth, and even playful competitiveness. Her internal transformation is a major focus of the series, as she moves from a strict soldier into someone capable of empathy, humor, and deeper human connection.

Role in the Story

  • Reassignment to LycoReco
Takina is reassigned to Café LycoReco after breaking orders in a mission. Though she initially sees it as a setback, she soon meets Chisato Nishikigi, a seemingly carefree yet formidable Lycoris who becomes her new partner. Their clashing personalities set the stage for both friction and eventual camaraderie.

  • Building Trust with Chisato
Through a series of unconventional missions and daily life at the café, Takina learns to value emotions and personal bonds. Chisato’s idealism prioritizing saving lives over eliminating threats challenges Takina’s worldview, leading to philosophical and emotional growth.

  • Facing the DA and Her Past
As Takina becomes more emotionally grounded, she begins to question the DA’s methods and her own blind loyalty. She revisits her strained relationship with Fuki, confronts leadership figures, and ultimately chooses to fight for her own beliefs, rather than blindly follow orders.

Relationships

Chisato Nishikigi
Takina’s new partner at LycoReco and her complete opposite in personality. Chisato is cheerful, expressive, and pacifistic traits that both frustrate and inspire Takina. Over time, their bond deepens into one of genuine friendship, trust, and emotional balance, making them one of the series’ most beloved duos.

Fuki Harukawa
Takina’s former partner at DA. Though their relationship is initially strained due to Takina’s reassignment, there’s a mutual respect and subtle emotional tension between them. Fuki represents the life Takina left behind, and their interactions often contrast Takina’s past and present.

Mizuki Nakahara & Kurumi
Takina works with both Mizuki and Kurumi at LycoReco. While Mizuki acts as an older-sister figure and Kurumi as a tech-savvy wildcard, both help Takina ease into a more relaxed, interpersonal environment.
