Suguru Geto

Suguru Geto (夏油 傑, Getō Suguru) is a major antagonist in both the Jujutsu Kaisen series and its prequel, Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High. He was originally a student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, alongside Satoru Gojo and Shoko Ieiri, under the mentorship of Masamichi Yaga.

However, Suguru’s experiences as a jujutsu sorcerer led him to develop a deep hatred for non-sorcerers. This resentment culminated in an incident where he massacred over a hundred civilians in a single night. As a result, he was expelled from Jujutsu High and came to be known as the worst of all curse users.

Suguru Geto waiving

Suguru Geto is a tall, slim, and muscular man with long black hair, which is partially tied up in a man bun while the rest drapes down his back. He has thin black eyes, with bangs that occasionally cover his left eye. His earlobes are large enough to accommodate fairly large circular earrings.

In 2006, as a student, Suguru’s hair was much shorter, with most of it tied up, though his bangs remained prominent. After becoming a curse user in August 2007, his hair began to grow longer, reaching the length it is seen in 2017.

As a student, Suguru wore the standard jujutsu high uniform. However, when masquerading as a Buddhist priest, he dons the appropriate attire: a gold-colored kāṣāya garment over black yukata robes. His monk outfit is completed with white tabi socks and zōri sandals.

Suguru expression

Suguru Geto harbored a deep hatred for non-sorcerers, often referring to them as “monkeys.” He believed that sorcerers were the superior race, the next stage of human evolution, and that humanity’s survival depended on the eradication of non-sorcerers. Suguru was smug, condescending, and ruthless in his views, using fake personas to manipulate vulnerable cursed individuals. He found non-sorcerers disgusting, even going as far as to spray himself to “disinfect the monkey stench.” According to him, monkeys had two roles in society: collecting money or collecting curses. If they failed to fulfill these roles, Suguru had no hesitation in allowing curses to kill them without remorse.

In stark contrast, Suguru cared deeply for his fellow curse users, whom he considered his “family.” His devoted commanders looked up to him, as they believed he would one day become the king of the jujutsu world. Suguru was polite, even to other jujutsu sorcerers, though this was often expressed under his various fake personas. He pretended to befriend Yuta Okkotsu, with the intention of killing him later, and even insulted one of Yuta’s friends shortly after pretending to act friendly.

Suguru believed that jujutsu sorcerers lived in a paradox, where the weak ruled over the strong. He felt that sorcerers, who lived to serve non-sorcerers, were holding back humanity’s evolution. In his mind, the world needed to be reshaped into one where only sorcerers existed, and the rest of humanity had to be eliminated to allow sorcerers to thrive.

After defeating Yuta’s classmates, Suguru expressed great joy, seeing young sorcerers working together to protect each other. With a crazed smile, he cried out that this was the type of world he longed for. He later admitted to Yuta that he did not want to kill him but saw no other choice for the future of his vision.

While fighting Yuta, Suguru criticized humanity for creating the concept of gods when sorcerers already existed. He believed the “monkeys” were too proud to admit that superior physical beings existed and was disgusted by their arrogance. In the end, when confronted by Satoru Gojo, Suguru reflected on their time at Jujutsu High and confessed that he simply couldn’t be happy in the world they lived in. Despite everything, a bond still remained between him and Satoru.

As a student at Jujutsu High, Suguru was initially a much kinder and more proper young man compared to Satoru, with a strong sense of manners and dignity. He and Satoru encouraged each other to be the strongest, confident that they could achieve anything as long as they had each other. However, after the death of Riko Amanai, Suguru’s ideology began to change. He became disillusioned after seeing the Star Religious Group’s followers applaud her death, an action that left a lasting impression on him.

Suguru’s path became increasingly unclear as he embarked on more dangerous missions, questioning his actions and the reason for his violence. His turning point came after losing his enthusiastic junior, Yu Haibara. This loss, along with witnessing the mistreatment of cursed children by non-sorcerers, led Suguru to finally make a definitive choice. He rescued two girls with cursed abilities, Mimiko and Nanako Hasaba, and killed over a hundred villagers, officially abandoning his past as a jujutsu sorcerer and embracing his new identity as a curse user. Suguru’s decision was final: he rejected the “monkeys” and chose to fight for a world where only sorcerers existed.

Abilities and Powers

Overall Skill Level: Suguru Geto was one of only four special grade sorcerers and was regarded as the worst of all curse users due to the immense threat he posed to humanity.

As a student, Suguru and Satoru Gojo were considered “the strongest” of their generation. Suguru was capable of dispatching experienced curse users effortlessly on multiple occasions. His collection of cursed spirits was vast and varied, with each spirit fulfilling specific roles in battle. While Suguru had a large arsenal of curses at his disposal, he was not overly reliant on them and was also an exceptionally skilled close-quarters fighter.

During his time as a curse user, Suguru amassed a significant following, using his religious group as a cover to collect thousands of cursed spirits. Over the course of a decade, Suguru’s power grew exponentially, making him a more significant threat to humanity than any curse at the time. With thousands of curses and several curse users at his side, Suguru had enough power to declare war on Jujutsu High, the central hub of the jujutsu sorcery community.

Despite his overwhelming resources, Suguru was aware that his chances of defeating the entire Jujutsu High sorcerer community were slim. His tactical intellect allowed him to deceive and isolate Yuta Okkotsu, with the true goal of the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons being to kill Yuta and steal the special grade vengeful spirit, Rika Orimoto. However, if his forces had not been split between Kyoto and Shinjuku, Suguru might have succeeded.

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Many of Suguru’s opponents assumed he would fight primarily through his shikigami, letting his cursed spirits do the work for him. Suguru used this misconception to his advantage, often surprising his foes with his expert martial arts skills in hand-to-hand combat. He allowed an armed curse user to get close, only to overwhelm them with a mix of punches, palm strikes, and devastating chops, capable of knocking out teeth and leaving his opponents in a bloody heap.

Suguru’s skill was so impressive that even Panda, a cursed corpse specialized in close-quarters fighting, was outstruck by Suguru in a brief exchange of purely physical blows. While armed with Playful Cloud, Suguru faced Yuta and a fully manifested Rika simultaneously in close combat. He successfully parried Yuta’s sword strikes and fended off Rika’s physical blows, showcasing his mastery in combat.

Great Tactical Intellect: Suguru was always a brilliant student at Jujutsu High. While Satoru Gojo often forgot key details about their missions or Master Tengen, Suguru was the one who remembered and explained things to him. This intellect translated directly into battle, where Suguru was always several steps ahead of his opponents. In his fight with Toji Fushiguro, Suguru nearly outmaneuvered the Sorcerer Killer by using his confidence against him. He tried to trap Toji by moving behind him, but the plan backfired, leaving Suguru open to a counterattack.

After becoming a curse user, Suguru took over the remnants of the Time Vessel Association and other like-minded religious groups. This move allowed him to create a legitimate base of operations for cursed humans, where he could absorb or exploit their curses for money. Suguru collected thousands of curses over this period, strategically using his resources to build a vast network of power.

Suguru’s tactical acumen led him to declare war on the entire Jujutsu High community through the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, drawing all the sorcerers into Kyoto and Shinjuku. Meanwhile, Suguru infiltrated Jujutsu High to confront Yuta Okkotsu directly. Initially, Suguru recognized that his chances of victory were under twenty percent, but by capturing Rika, he greatly increased his chances of success.

Cursed Technique

Cursed Spirit Manipulation (呪霊操術, Jurei Sōjutsu): As the name implies, Suguru’s technique allows him to control vagabond cursed spirits. Dominated curses are absorbed into small black orbs, which Suguru must ingest orally in order to use. If the difference in grade between the curse and Suguru is more than two levels, he can absorb the curse without any negative consequences. Additionally, Suguru is able to absorb other sorcerer’s curses, but only after killing the original master. This technique grants Suguru vast power, as he can manipulate and command a wide array of cursed spirits, each with different abilities.

Maximum: Uzumaki (極ノ番「うずまき」, Gokunoban: Uzumaki): The maximum technique of Cursed Spirit Manipulation, Uzumaki combines a massive number of collected curses into a single, devastating attack. In his battle with Yuta Okkotsu and Rika, Suguru utilized over four thousand curses in this technique, unleashing a powerful assault that showcased the overwhelming scale and destructive potential of his cursed spirit manipulation.

Curtain (帳とばり, Tobari): Curtain is a type of barrier that Suguru can cast over a large area, effectively hiding everything within it from the outside world. Suguru’s Curtain is powerful enough to trap sorcerers inside, and he can even cast it over a weaker sorcerer’s barrier, neutralizing it. This technique gives Suguru a significant tactical advantage, allowing him to control the battlefield by isolating his enemies and limiting their options.

Equipment

Playful Cloud (遊雲, Yū-Un): Playful Cloud is a special grade cursed tool used by Suguru Geto in combat. This three-section staff allows him to fight multiple opponents simultaneously with exceptional skill. During his battle with Yuta Okkotsu and Rika, Suguru effectively blocked, parried, and countered attacks from both adversaries at once, demonstrating his masterful control over the cursed tool. Playful Cloud serves as a versatile weapon in Suguru’s arsenal, enabling him to handle fast-paced and multi-faceted combat scenarios with ease.
