Sena Kashiwazaki (柏崎 星奈, Kashiwazaki Sena) is the female tritagonist of the Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai series. She is the first official member to be recruited into the Neighbor’s Club and the daughter of Tenma Kashiwazaki, the headmaster of St. Chronica’s Academy. Sena is admired for her wealth, beauty, and exceptional abilities in both academics and athletics, which has made her extremely popular among male students. However, this popularity has also alienated her from other girls, who often envy or resent her. Despite being constantly surrounded by male classmates whom she dismissively refers to as “doormats” Sena longs for genuine companionship, which ultimately leads her to join the Neighbor’s Club in hopes of finding true friends.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
On the surface, Sena Kashiwazaki appears to be a model high school girl—beautiful, intelligent, and athletic. However, she is also arrogant and prideful, openly acknowledging these traits and even justifying them by claiming she deserves to act that way because of her talents. Sena regards herself as something of a school “queen” or “goddess,” often treating male classmates as her personal servants, or “doormats,” a term she herself uses. While the boys never seem to mind this treatment, her vanity and aloofness have left her without female friends.
Sena divides girls into two categories: those who are willing to befriend her, and those she considers unworthy. This mindset, coupled with her beauty and self-confidence, isolates her further. She shows little respect for the boys in her class, resenting the fact that they ogle her and obey her every whim. Yet, when confronted or humiliated most often by Yozora Sena’s pride shatters easily. She reacts by bursting into tears, lashing out with childish insults, and running away.
Despite her arrogance, Sena begins to view Kodaka differently from other boys after he treats her with respect and even rescues her from harassment at a pool. Unlike her male classmates, he does not indulge in her superiority complex, which sparks her admiration. Over time, this admiration grows into affection, with Sena openly admitting she loves him and would not mind marrying him.
As a perfectionist, Sena invests herself fully into any task she undertakes, refusing to settle for mediocrity. This extends to her hobbies, particularly video games, which she often plays obsessively to completion. Her passion for games makes her defensive, and she reacts strongly if someone insults them. Kodaka observes that this obsessive streak defines her personality: when she is interested in something, she will pursue it relentlessly, but when uninterested, she disregards it entirely.
Sena is also gullible and often the victim of Yozora and Rika’s tricks, failing to recognize their schemes until long after the fact. Even in moments of humiliation, however, she rarely questions their antics until someone else, such as her father, points out the obvious.
Although her princess-like arrogance often overshadows her good qualities, Sena has shown genuine kindness and care for others. She has gone out of her way to include club members in activities, such as buying Maria a ticket so she would not be excluded from a theme park trip. Even when seeking revenge against Yozora for plagiarism, she stopped short of cruelty and offered her rival a role in the club’s movie project.
However, Sena also has a more troubling side, her obsessive infatuation with Kodaka’s younger sister, Kobato. She frequently showers Kobato with affection to the point of making her uncomfortable, even asking to bathe with her. This fixation highlights both Sena’s impulsiveness and her tendency to let her desires override common sense.
Appearance
Sena Kashiwazaki is widely regarded as one of the most attractive girls at St. Chronica’s Academy, a beauty she attributes to inheriting her mother’s looks. She has long, light blonde hair that reaches to her mid-back, styled with two distinct front strands and bangs swept slightly to the right. She almost always adorns her hair with a distinctive blue butterfly clip. Her eyes are a striking shade of blue, and she has a tall, shapely figure with a notably voluptuous build—an aspect that often draws attention from others. Yozora, in particular, mockingly refers to her as “Meat” because of her curvaceous body, a nickname that Sena deeply resents.
At school, Sena is usually seen in the standard academy uniform. Outside of school, she favors fashionable and eye-catching outfits that emphasize her beauty. It is revealed in Volume 6 of the light novel that Stella Redfield, the Kashiwazaki family’s maid, is responsible for managing her daily appearance, buying her clothes, selecting her outfits, and even doing her hair and makeup.
Abilities
Intelligence
Sena is academically gifted, consistently excelling in all subjects and earning the position of valedictorian of her year. She has an exceptional memory, able to recall details from the past with clarity, such as the first time Yozora addressed her by name. Despite her brilliance, Sena’s pride sometimes leads her to exaggerate her knowledge in areas where she is inexperienced, often resulting in embarrassing mistakes. While she is sharp in academics, she is also notably gullible, frequently falling victim to Yozora’s manipulations tricks that Kodaka and Rika can usually see through with ease.
Physical Abilities
Sena’s talents extend beyond the classroom, as she is also an accomplished athlete. She learns new skills quickly, and although she could not swim at the beginning of the series, she became proficient after just a few lessons from Kodaka, nearly matching his ability in a short time. Her natural athleticism and determination make her stand out in both sports and physical challenges.
Domestic Abilities
In contrast to her strengths, Sena struggles with domestic skills. She is unable to style her own hair or apply makeup, as her family’s maid, Stella Redfield, has always handled these tasks for her. As a result, she is highly dependent on Stella in matters of personal grooming and household management.
Relationships
Yozora Mikazuki
From the moment they met, Sena and Yozora developed a hostile relationship, with Sena often calling Yozora “weasel” or “flat chest.” However, Yozora was the first to openly antagonize her, frequently mocking Sena with the nickname “Meat.” Although the teasing usually leaves Sena in tears, hurling childish insults before storming off, their dynamic gradually shifts toward that of frenemies. Despite her pride, Sena eventually grows fond of the nickname “Meat,” as it is the first nickname she has ever received. When Sena was genuinely hurt by Yozora’s words, Yozora showed concern and relief when the conflict subsided, hinting at a complicated but evolving bond. Their rivalry also extends to their feelings for Kodaka, as Sena becomes jealous when she notices the casual familiarity between Yozora and Kodaka, especially after learning of their shared childhood.
Kodaka Hasegawa
Sena initially regarded Kodaka as no different from the boys who constantly vied for her attention, even offering him “rewards” such as letting him be stepped on. To her surprise, Kodaka rejected her offers and treated her unlike the other boys, which caused her view of him to change. Over time, she grew closer to Kodaka, respecting his sincerity and eventually developing romantic feelings for him. Sena openly admits at one point that she would not mind marrying Kodaka, signaling how deeply her affection for him has grown.
Kobato Hasegawa
Sena has an intense fascination with Kobato, largely due to her cuteness, and constantly tries to win her affection. Kobato, however, finds Sena’s obsession overwhelming, often crying, running away, or hiding behind Kodaka. Despite Kobato’s coldness and frequent insults, Sena remains undeterred and even takes joy in Kobato’s rejections, interpreting them as endearing.
Rika Shiguma
Sena and Rika generally maintain a good relationship, often bonding over their shared interest in galgames and dating sims. They frequently exchange strategies and tips, particularly when Yozora reveals her ignorance in such topics. However, Rika occasionally sides with Yozora in teasing Sena, either out of envy for her beauty or amusement at her naivety. Even so, Sena values her interactions with Rika, as their shared hobbies give her a rare sense of camaraderie.
Etymology
Sena’s given name Sena (星奈) is written with the kanji hoshi (星), meaning “star,” and na (奈), which can denote Nara (a historical place name) or be used phonetically. Her name can be interpreted as “star of Nara” or more loosely as “starry beauty,” which reflects her radiant appearance and her role as the admired “star” of the academy.
Her family name Kashiwazaki (柏崎) is composed of kashiwa (柏), meaning “oak tree,” and saki/zaki (崎), meaning “cape” or “promontory.” Together, it can be read as “oak tree cape,” evoking a sense of strength and nobility fitting for the daughter of a wealthy and influential family.
