Selesia Upitiria

Selesia Upitiria (セレジア・ユピティリア, Serejia Yupitiria), is the false female protagonist of Re:Creators and the main heroine of the fictional anime and light novel series Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier (精霊機想曲フォーゲルシュバリエ). She is a valiant knight who fought against the Avalon Brigade, wielding her spiritual mecha, Vogelchevalier, in battle. However, after confronting the mysterious Altair, she was unexpectedly pulled into the real world, where she met Sōta Mizushino and learned the shocking truth she is a fictional character.

Though initially struggling to accept her new reality, Selesia chooses to fight alongside Sōta and other “Created” characters, believing that they must find a way to return to their worlds and prevent Altair’s destruction of reality. As one of the most charismatic and determined figures among the “Created,” she serves as a symbol of hope and courage, even as she grapples with the knowledge of her fictional origins. Her creator is Takashi Matsubara, a novelist who originally brought her story to life.

Appearance in anime

Selesia is a fictional character from Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier, an anime and light novel series where she serves as the main heroine. Within her original story, she was a brave and noble knight, piloting a powerful mecha, Vogelchevalier, to battle the Avalon Brigade, a dangerous faction threatening her kingdom. She was depicted as strong-willed, determined, and fiercely loyal, making her a fan-favorite character among viewers.

However, after confronting Altair, a mysterious and powerful entity, Selesia found herself transported into the real world, where she encountered Sōta Mizushino. Forced to protect him from Altair, she quickly realized that she was no longer bound by her original story and had entered a completely different reality. With Sōta’s guidance, she discovered the truth that she was merely a fictional character created by Takashi Matsubara.

Despite this earth-shattering revelation, Selesia chooses to accept her new existence, joining forces with Sōta and other “Created” characters to prevent Altair’s destructive plans. She becomes one of the most prominent leaders among the “Created,” using her combat skills and strong will to fight for both her world and the real world.

Appearance

Selesia is a strikingly beautiful warrior, with long, flowing red hair and emerald green eyes. She wears a fitted red and black armored bodysuit, which provides both agility and protection in battle. Her design reflects her role as a heroic warrior, blending elegance with practicality.

Unlike many other fantasy heroines, Selesia is depicted in functional armor rather than overly revealing clothing, emphasizing her knightly and battle-ready persona. Her iconic red hair and confident stance make her one of the most recognizable “Created” characters in the real world.

Personality

Selesia is bold, determined, and fiercely independent, embodying the classic traits of a heroic protagonist. As a warrior from a fantasy-mecha setting, she is highly disciplined and courageous, never hesitating to jump into battle to protect others. Though she initially struggles with the truth of her existence, she refuses to become consumed by despair, instead choosing to fight for a better future.

Despite her strong exterior, Selesia is deeply compassionate, forming genuine bonds with both the “Created” characters and the humans who brought them to life. She serves as a mentor and protector to Sōta, encouraging him to believe in himself even when he is filled with self-doubt.

Selesia has a strong sense of justice, refusing to stand by while Altair threatens both worlds. Even though she is aware that she was never meant to exist outside her story, she refuses to accept a predetermined fate, proving that she is more than just a character she is a true warrior.

However, she also has a stubborn and headstrong side, often rushing into battles without fully considering the consequences. She can be impulsive and reckless, particularly when facing Altair or other powerful enemies. Despite this, she learns to trust her allies, growing into a more strategic and capable leader as the series progresses.

Role in the Story

  • Arrival in the Real World and Protecting Sōta
Selesia first appears when Sōta is suddenly transported into her world, witnessing her battle against Altair. When Altair turns her attention to Sōta, Selesia rushes to his defense, ultimately being dragged into the real world along with him. After the initial shock of discovering her fictional origins, she quickly adapts to her new reality and agrees to help Sōta locate other “Created” characters to stop Altair’s destructive plans.

  • Gathering the “Created” Characters
As one of the most capable fighters, Selesia becomes a leader among the “Created,” rallying other characters from different anime, manga, and light novel universes. She works alongside Metora, an intelligent and tactical mage, to uncover the mechanisms behind their existence in the real world and find a way to oppose Altair’s reality-breaking powers.

  • Confronting Altair
Throughout the series, Selesia plays a major role in several battles, facing off against powerful “Created” warriors who have sided with Altair. Her determination to protect both worlds drives her to fight relentlessly, even when the odds are stacked against her. Though she is not the strongest “Created” character, her bravery and leadership make her one of the most influential figures in the fight against Altair. As the battle against Altair reaches its climax, Selesia risks everything to prevent her from erasing both reality and fiction, proving that she is more than just a character she is a hero in her own right.

Relationships

Sōta Mizushino
Selesia is Sōta’s first ally, protecting him when he accidentally enters her world. Though she is initially frustrated by his hesitance and insecurity, she grows to respect him, encouraging him to embrace his role as a creator. Their bond is one of mutual support, as Selesia teaches Sōta courage, while he helps her understand the complexities of her existence.

Takashi Matsubara (Her Creator)
Matsubara is the author of Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier and the creator of Selesia. Though their relationship starts off awkward, as Selesia struggles with the idea that her entire life was written by him, she gradually comes to respect him, especially when she sees how much he cares for his creations.

Metora Österreich
Metora and Selesia form a close friendship, working together to analyze the nature of their existence in the real world. While Metora is logical and analytical, Selesia is bold and action-oriented, making them a balanced duo in the fight against Altair.

Altair
As the main antagonist, Altair stands opposite Selesia, embodying the pain and destruction that comes from unchecked creative energy. While Selesia fights for hope and unity, Altair seeks revenge and chaos, making them philosophical opposites.

Trivia

    • Selesia’s name resembles the Latin word “Caelestia,” meaning “heavenly,” fitting her role as a noble warrior.
      • Her character design is inspired by both traditional mecha pilots and fantasy knights, blending both aesthetics.
      • Despite being a swordswoman, she is also skilled in piloting Vogelchevalier, a mecha from her original story.
      • She is one of the most self-aware “Created” characters, quickly adapting to the reality of her existence.

    Legacy

      • Selesia Upitiria is more than just a fictional character brought to life she is a symbol of resilience, bravery, and the fight for one’s own destiny. Despite learning that her world was created by others, she refuses to accept fate as it is written, proving that even a fictional hero can have a real impact.
