Saya Takagi (高城沙耶, Takagi Saya) is one of the main characters in Highschool of the Dead. She is the daughter of the influential Souichiro Takagi and Yuriko Takagi, leaders of a prominent political family. Known for her genius-level intellect, Saya contributes significantly to the group with her sharp analytical mind and ability to formulate strategies, often staying out of direct combat. However, as the story progresses, she takes a more active role in fighting for survival alongside her friends.
Background

Saya is a high school sophomore and childhood friend of Takashi Komuro, whom she secretly harbors feelings for, though she often masks this with condescension and teasing. As the daughter of a powerful family, Saya grew up in a privileged environment but often felt overshadowed by her parents’ achievements, leading to her desire to prove herself. Her high intelligence and academic excellence earned her a reputation as a genius, though it also made her stubborn, arrogant, and sometimes difficult to approach.
When the outbreak began, Saya’s quick thinking and ability to assess situations helped the group survive countless dangerous encounters. Despite her often abrasive demeanor, she deeply cares for her friends and frequently places their well-being above her own.
Appearance
Saya has long pink hair tied into twin tails with yellow hairbands, amber-colored eyes, and wears glasses. She is of average height with a slender build. Her usual outfit is the standard Fujimi High School uniform, consisting of a green skirt, white blouse, and green-trimmed sailor collar.
As the group progresses through the outbreak, her clothing becomes more practical to adapt to the harsh conditions. Despite the chaos, Saya retains a sense of personal grooming, reflecting her meticulous and perfectionist nature.
Personality
Saya is an intellectual and analytical thinker, often relying on logic and reason to navigate dangerous situations. Her superior intellect sometimes manifests as arrogance, and she has little patience for what she perceives as incompetence or ignorance. She is known to berate others, particularly Takashi, for their lack of foresight or poor decision-making. However, her criticisms are usually well-meaning, as she genuinely wants the group to survive and thrive.
Despite her brash and stubborn exterior, Saya has a compassionate and vulnerable side. She values the friendships she shares with the group, even if she struggles to express her emotions openly. Her unspoken feelings for Takashi often surface in moments of jealousy, particularly when he interacts with other girls, though she rarely acknowledges these feelings directly
