Saichi Sugimoto

Saichi Sugimoto (杉元 佐一, Sugimoto Saichi), also known as “Sugimoto the Immortal” (不死身の杉元, Fujimi no Sugimoto), is the main protagonist of Golden Kamuy. A veteran of the Russo-Japanese War, Sugimoto earns his infamous nickname due to his remarkable ability to survive seemingly fatal injuries and overwhelming odds. After the war, he ventures into Hokkaido to pan for gold, hoping to secure a future for the widow of his fallen comrade.
