Rikka Takanashi (小鳥遊 六花, Takanashi Rikka), is the main female protagonist of the light novel, anime, and film series Chūnibyō Demo Koi ga Shitai! (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!). A first-year high school student and self-proclaimed wielder of the “Wicked Eye,” Rikka is the eccentric founder and president of the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer. Deeply immersed in her delusional fantasies, she embodies the concept of “chūnibyō” a syndrome-like state where adolescents believe they possess supernatural powers.
Despite her bizarre behavior and theatrical personality, Rikka is a kind, vulnerable, and ultimately sincere girl. Her journey throughout the series revolves around coming to terms with the loss of her father, forming meaningful connections, and discovering what it truly means to love and grow up. She is voiced by Maaya Uchida in the original Japanese version and Margaret McDonald in the English dub.
Background

Appearance in Anime
Rikka developed her chūnibyō persona shortly before entering high school, as a coping mechanism following the death of her father, with whom she was very close. Unable to process her grief and seeking an escape from reality, she began adopting an alternate identity as a magical girl, complete with an eye-patch concealing her “Wicked Eye” (a colored contact lens).
After moving in with her older sister, Tōka Takanashi, Rikka transferred to a new school and met Yūta Togashi, a fellow student and former chūnibyō sufferer. Although Yūta initially resists her antics, he eventually sympathizes with her and becomes her closest companion, forming the emotional core of the series.
Appearance
Rikka is a petite girl with a youthful appearance. She has shoulder-length dark blue hair, often tied into a side ponytail, and wears a black eye-patch over her right eye to “seal” her Wicked Eye. Her eyes are a vivid cyan blue, and she is usually seen in her school uniform: a navy blazer, plaid skirt, and a red ribbon.
Her signature look includes a yellow hairclip, and occasionally she dons a cape or other accessories to enhance her magical persona during “battles” or imaginative episodes.
Personality
Rikka is delusional, imaginative, and overly dramatic, often behaving as though she lives in a fantasy world filled with dark powers and ancient magic. Her “Wicked Eye” persona is central to her identity, and she frequently invokes complex made-up spells and terminology.
Beneath her chūnibyō exterior, Rikka is sensitive, awkward, and emotionally dependent, particularly regarding her unresolved grief and fear of being alone. She finds comfort in fantasy, using it as both armor and expression. As the story progresses, she slowly begins to accept reality and open her heart to others especially Yūta while still retaining her quirky charm.
Role in the Story
Formation of the Magic Napping Society: After transferring to high school, Rikka founds the Far Eastern Magic Napping Society of Summer, a club where she and other oddball members can indulge in delusions and imagination. It becomes her personal haven and the backdrop for many of the series’ comedic and heartfelt moments.
Relationship with Yūta: Rikka’s bond with Yūta Togashi drives the narrative. While Yūta has left his chūnibyō days behind, he finds himself drawn to Rikka’s sincere vulnerability. Their relationship transitions from reluctant companionship to a genuine romance, filled with awkward, adorable, and emotionally charged moments as they both learn to navigate love and self-acceptance.
Confronting Reality: Throughout the series, Rikka gradually confronts her grief over her father’s death and her strained relationship with her sister. With Yūta’s support, she begins to reconcile her fantasy world with reality, making strides toward maturity while maintaining the whimsical essence of her identity.
Relationships
Yūta Togashi: Her classmate, clubmate, and eventual boyfriend. Though skeptical at first, Yūta becomes Rikka’s greatest source of emotional support. Their relationship is awkward but deeply sincere, with Yūta helping Rikka face her trauma and Rikka helping Yūta rediscover the value of imagination.
Tōka Takanashi: Rikka’s strict older sister and guardian. Tōka is pragmatic and wants Rikka to abandon her delusions, leading to frequent clashes. However, she deeply cares for her sister and eventually supports Rikka’s emotional growth in her own stern way.
Dekomori Sanae: Rikka’s devoted underclassman and self-proclaimed servant. Dekomori idolizes Rikka’s chūnibyō persona and shares in her delusions. Their bond is filled with exaggerated battles and dramatic loyalty, but also genuine friendship.
