Before the zombie pandemic outbreak, Rika Minami worked as a specialist sniper in the SAT, Japan’s equivalent of a SWAT unit. She was stationed at a police outpost at a bridge checkpoint, where she and her team attempted to maintain order and prevent the infected from crossing into safe zones. Her position made her one of the first characters to come into direct contact with the outbreak on a tactical level.

She shared an apartment with Shizuka Marikawa, whom she cared for deeply and entrusted with sensitive information and resources such as a fully-equipped vehicle which Shizuka later uses to help the main group of students escape.

Rika is a tall, athletic woman with long, wavy dark purple hair and striking amber eyes. Her SAT uniform consists of tactical gear, including a bulletproof vest, utility belts, gloves, and sniper equipment, reflecting her profession. Despite the bleak circumstances of the outbreak, she maintains a composed and confident appearance.

Her character design exudes strength and sensuality, aligning with the series’ mature tone and aesthetic style.

Rika is disciplined, intelligent, and pragmatic, with a sharp sense of humor and no-nonsense attitude. She is highly capable in combat and tactical decision-making, often assuming command during critical moments. Though she maintains a cool and somewhat aloof exterior, she shows warmth and loyalty to those she trusts particularly Shizuka.

Unlike many civilians in the story, Rika adapts quickly to the chaos of the zombie outbreak, using her training to protect others and make hard choices when necessary. She is level-headed and emotionally resilient, making her an ideal figure of authority in crisis situations.

  Rika is first introduced manning a sniper post at a bridge checkpoint, tasked with preventing infected individuals from breaching the area. She demonstrates her skills by accurately eliminating threats from a distance, maintaining order even as the situation begins to spiral out of control.

• Connection to Shizuka
  Before leaving her post, Rika contacts Shizuka and informs her of a safe escape route, giving her the keys to her military-grade Humvee. This vehicle becomes the main transportation for the protagonists, playing a crucial role in their early survival. Rika’s foresight and trust in Shizuka directly enable the group’s escape from danger.

  After her initial appearance, Rika is seen briefly during later arcs, but her fate remains ambiguous as the chaos escalates across Japan. Despite her limited presence, her actions leave a lasting impact on the survival and mobility of the main cast.
