Reno (レノ, Reno), widely known as the Great Spirit Reno (大精霊レノ, Dai Seirei Reno), is a powerful spirit born from the myths and traditions surrounding the concept of the mother of all spirits. Revered as both their origin and ruler, she is regarded as the mother of every spirit in existence. Her presence embodies nurturing strength, and she holds authority over all spirits, maintaining balance within their realm.
History

Reno’s Appearance in Anime
Two thousand years ago, Reno was confronted by the Heavenly Father Nosgalia after refusing his demand to bear the Child of God. At her most vulnerable, she was rescued by the Demon King Anos Voldigoad, who sought her cooperation in ending the Great War. Reno accepted his proposal, and Anos entrusted his loyal subordinate, Shin Reglia, to serve as her protector until she safely returned to Aharthern.
Together with Shin, Reno journeyed to the Demon Castle Delsgade, where she stood alongside the Goddess of Creation Militia, the Hero Kanon, and Anos himself. The four united their powers to perform Beno Ievun, a grand spell fueled by Anos’ life force that erected magical walls dividing the four races, ensuring peace until old hatreds could fade. After Anos’ self-sacrifice, Reno returned with Shin to the Great Spirit Forest, only to find it under siege by the divine beasts guen.
Over time, Reno and Shin grew close, eventually falling in love, marrying, and conceiving a child, Misa. However, tragedy struck when Nosgalia once again intervened. He forcibly extracted Misa from Reno’s womb and altered her existence, transforming her into the spirit embodying the false legend of Avos Dilhevia. This violation of Reno’s lore led to her death, as Shin was unable to stop Nosgalia in time.
With her final strength, Reno used the power of Ezyssey, the Spring of Time, to send her daughter safely into the future, beyond Nosgalia’s reach. Before passing, she entrusted Shin with the grim duty of killing Misa should she ever endanger the world. Shin, however, refused to condemn their child and instead vowed to create a world where she could live freely two thousand years later.
Appearance
Reno is depicted as a strikingly beautiful spirit, embodying the grace and majesty associated with her role as the Mother of Spirits. She has amber-colored eyes that give her an ethereal warmth, and her long light green hair flows down to her waist, often accentuating her serene presence. Reno possesses a slender yet curvaceous figure, with a relatively full bust that adds to her feminine charm.
Her attire consists of a flowing white dress adorned with jade-colored patterns, symbolizing her deep connection to nature and spiritual energy. From her back extend six crystalline wings, radiant and translucent, which signify both her divine origin and her immense spiritual power. These wings glow faintly in battle or moments of heightened emotion, reinforcing her otherworldly aura.
Despite her regal appearance, Reno’s design emphasizes gentleness over intimidation, befitting her status as both a nurturer of spirits and a key figure in forging peace between races.
Personality
Reno embodies a gentle and nurturing spirit, often described as the very essence of kindness. Her warm and approachable nature allows her to connect with others easily, as she radiates an aura of honesty and sincerity that fosters trust. Reno’s openness in communication reflects her transparent heart, making her both a compassionate confidante and a natural leader among spirits.
While she is calm and amiable by nature, Reno’s protective instincts surface when her home or loved ones are threatened. In such moments, her soft demeanor gives way to a firm resolve, and she demonstrates the strength expected of the Mother of Spirits. This balance between tenderness and determination defines her role as both guardian and guide, embodying both maternal care and unwavering authority.
Reno’s loyalty runs deeper than mere bonds of space or time, it extends into memories, emotions, and the essence of those she loves. She is unwavering in her devotion to Shin Reglia and later to their daughter, Misa, showing that her strength is inseparable from her capacity to love. This duality makes her a truly multifaceted figure, compassionate and gentle, yet resolute and unyielding when it comes to protecting what she holds dear.
Abilities
Immense Magic Power
As the Great Spirit born from myths and collective belief, Reno possesses extraordinary magic power. Her strength is directly tied to the countless rumors and legends surrounding her as the Mother of Spirits. This vast reservoir of magic allowed her to injure the Heavenly Father Nosgalia, a feat considered nearly impossible, and Anos Voldigoad himself acknowledged her as one of the most powerful active beings of the Mythical Age.
Spirit Creation
Reno’s lore grants her the unique ability to give birth to new spirits. However, the type and nature of these spirits are not under her direct control, they manifest from the substance of rumors and legends that define them. Later traditions expanded this power, with her ability being refined into the creation of Teardrop Blossoms, mystical flowers capable of producing new spirits, symbolizing her role as a mother to all spiritual life.
Spirit Magic
As the progenitor of all spirits, Reno wields mastery over spirit magic, enabling her to emulate or replicate the techniques of other spirits with ease. This makes her one of the most versatile magic users in existence, capable of adapting to situations by drawing upon the collective spiritual essence and abilities of her kin.
Relationships
Shin Reglia
Reno first met Shin when Anos assigned him as her bodyguard to protect her from Nousgalia during her journey to Delsgade. Initially put off by his overly stoic demeanor, she gradually warmed to him during their travels. Learning about Shin’s lonely origin as a demon sword who believed he could never experience love, Reno made it her mission to teach him its meaning. Through time and shared experiences, their bond deepened, and she eventually fell in love with him. With Hero Kanon’s encouragement, Reno realized her feelings, and the two married before Shin left to reincarnate. Their union resulted in Reno’s pregnancy with their daughter, Misa. However, Reno’s life was tragically cut short when Nousgalia interfered with Misa’s birth. In her final moments, she asked Shin to kill their daughter if she ever threatened the world, but Shin refused, vowing instead to create a future where Misa could live safely.
Misa Iliorogue
Misa is Reno’s daughter, conceived through her marriage with Shin. While initially surprised by her pregnancy, Reno was overjoyed at the chance to become a mother. Unfortunately, Nousgalia manipulated the birth, declaring Misa to be the “Child of God” and embodying the rumors of Avos Dilhevia. He forcibly extracted Misa from Reno’s womb and artificially aged her, nearly causing her death. Desperate to save her child, Reno used her tears to stabilize Misa’s existence, but because she had violated her own lore by giving birth to a half-demon, half-spirit child, her life began to fade. Naming her daughter with Shin’s blessing, Reno entrusted Misa to her father’s protection before disappearing.
Anos Voldigoad
Though they stood as enemies during the Great War, Reno came to respect Anos for his unmatched strength and underlying compassion. She remained grateful to him for assigning Shin as her protector, as it ultimately led her to find love and family. During her marriage to Shin, Reno expressed regret that Anos could not be present, but Shin reassured her that his master would one day see them again, a statement later proven true when Anos, as Anosh Polticoal, witnessed her in the past.
Kanon
Reno shared a close alliance with Hero Kanon throughout the Great War. Fighting side by side with him, she admired his determination to protect humanity and his willingness to cooperate with other races to end the conflict. Their friendship endured even after the war’s conclusion, and it was Kanon’s words that helped Reno recognize her love for Shin.
