Nana Bassler (ナナ=バスーラ, Nana Basūra) is a character introduced in Plunderer. She is the owner of a mobile tavern and one of the Seven Legendary Red Barons, bearing the title of “Insight Baron” (識撃の撃墜王, Shikigeki no Gekitsui-ō). Depending on the translation, she is also referred to as the “Ace of Conscious Strikes” (Yen Press) or the “Ace of Knowing” (Funimation). Nana plays a key role in the story, providing guidance and support to the protagonists while harboring a deep and mysterious past connected to the Aces.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Nana Bassler is a beautiful, tan-skinned woman with silver hair, which she styles with bangs hanging on the left side, and purple eyes with a distinctive mole beneath her left eye. She possesses a curvaceous figure, with her large bust often drawing attention.
As a child, Nana wore her hair in braids, tied with bunny and turtle hairbands a possible reference to Schmelman’s recurring stories or a symbolic connection to Licht’s abilities. She had a strong fondness for cute things, which was evident in her room decor, as she surrounded herself with stuffed animals and dolls resembling her future comrades.
As she matured, Nana’s sense of fashion evolved, embracing a more revealing and bold style. Her hair is now shorter, and she wears gold bangles around her neck, wrists, and ankles. Her outfit consists of a simple white button-down shirt, which she leaves open, exposing a black strapless bra underneath. A black belt with a gold buckle accentuates her hips, leading into an open skirt with a thigh-high slit on one leg. A black cuff adorns one of her knees, and she completes her look with black Mary Jane-style kitten heels, slightly boosting her height. Notably, she carries a pair of shackles at her hips, tucked into her belt, further hinting at her past.
Her Count of 77, which appears on her left breast, is fake. Her original Count was located under her left eye, but in its absence, her beauty mark has become more prominent.
Personality
Nana Bassler is a kind and compassionate woman, though kindness alone does not define her character. She carries herself with dignity and self-respect, displaying a stern and assertive nature when necessary. Unlike some of her more eccentric or impulsive counterparts, Nana maintains a level-headed and well-rounded demeanor, making her appear ordinary and relatable despite the extraordinary nature of her past.
Beneath her approachable and easygoing exterior, Nana possesses a refined sense of class and wisdom that far exceeds what one might expect from a mere mobile tavern owner. Her composed and knowledgeable attitude suggests a depth of experience, hinting at the greater role she plays as one of the Seven Legendary Red Barons.
Abilities and Power
Count and Limitations
Three hundred years ago, Nana Bassler’s Count stood at 56. However, her Count significantly decreased over time due to her repeated use of her abilities, particularly her time travel powers. At one point, her Count was reduced to 2 after she sent Hina, Pele, Lyne, and Jail back to the past. Originally, it was believed that her Count reflected the number of customers who praised her food, though this has never been definitively confirmed. Eventually, her Count dropped to 1 after she sent Hina back to the past during the battle against Firenda and the berserk clones, leaving her unable to use her time travel ability again.
Conscious Strike (識撃, Shikigeki)
Nana gained her supernatural abilities after undergoing an incomplete Baron Surgery as a child, surviving the experimental procedure. However, unlike other Red Barons, who developed formidable combat skills, Nana’s abilities were significantly limited due to the incomplete nature of her operation. As a result, she lacks the same level of combat prowess as her fellow Aces. Additionally, her abilities come with severe drawbacks, as certain powers deplete her Count, gradually rendering her powerless.
Time Travel
One of Nana’s most remarkable abilities is time travel, allowing her to transport herself or others across different points in time. She demonstrated this power when she sent Jail, Hina, Pele, and Lyne back 300 years to the period before the Abandonment War and later retrieved them with relative ease. However, a critical limitation of this ability is that every use depletes her Count, making multiple trips impossible as her Count steadily decreases. After sending Hina back one last time, Nana’s Count dropped to 1, rendering her permanently incapable of time travel.
Future Vision
Nana’s primary ability and the one that earned her the title of “Insight Baron” is her Future Vision. Unlike time travel, this ability does not consume her Count, allowing her to use it freely. From childhood, Nana displayed an uncanny ability to accurately predict future events, down to specific seconds and minutes. Her foresight proved invaluable in her first meeting with Jail as a child and later made her a crucial figure akin to a military strategist during the Abandonment War.
Additionally, Nana experiences prophetic dreams, which provide her with glimpses of significant future events. This was notably seen when she repeatedly had visions of Douan Taketora’s attack on Licht and his group, further demonstrating the depth of her insight.
Relationships
Licht Bach (Rihito Sakai)
One of Nana’s closest friends and former comrades, whom she deeply cares for and teases constantly. Though she often hides her true feelings, she has a special connection with him.
Hina Farrow
Nana acts as a mentor and protector to Hina, helping her understand the world and her journey.
Other Red Barons
As one of the 7 Legendary Red Barons, Nana has a shared past with the others, though she is one of the few who chose to step away from warfare.
Travelers & Ordinary People
Due to her tavern-owner persona, Nana interacts with many wandering souls, offering them advice, shelter, and friendship.
Legacy
Nana Bassler’s wisdom, strength, and emotional depth make her one of the most important characters in Plunderer. As a protector of history and a guiding figure, she shapes the direction of Licht’s journey and serves as a mentor to the next generation. Whether seen as a Red Baron, a traveler, or an old friend who refuses to let time defeat her, Nana’s legacy is one of resilience, compassion, and hidden power.
