Nagomi Wahira (和平 なごみ, Wahira Nagomi) is one of the main protagonists of the anime series Akiba Maid War. A bright and optimistic young woman, she arrives in Akihabara with the dream of becoming a cheerful and beloved maid. Determined to embody the image of a “cute maid,” Nagomi joins the Oinky Doink Café, unaware of the dark and dangerous underworld that lurks beneath Akihabara’s maid café culture.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Nagomi Wahira has long brown hair, typically styled into two ponytails, with the remainder left loose at the back. She has gold-colored eyes and usually wears the standard Oinky Doink Café maid uniform, which includes a frilly dress, long white stockings, and black Mary Jane shoes.
In the first half of Episode 12, Nagomi dons a black variation of her maid outfit as a symbol of mourning for Ranko Mannen. During this time, she also wears a pair of aviator sunglasses, giving her a more somber and hardened appearance.
In the post-credits scene of Episode 12, Nagomi is shown at 36 years old with a slightly more mature appearance. Her hair is longer, with her bangs grown out and parted at the center of her forehead. She wears lipstick and continues to wear the Oinky Doink Café uniform, now accessorized with the hair clip that Ranko gifted her before her death. Due to being wheelchair-bound, she uses a sports-style wheelchair adorned with photos and name tags of her former colleagues from the café’s 1999 staff, including Nerula.
Personality
Nagomi Wahira is initially portrayed as a cheerful, optimistic, and energetic young woman with an idealistic vision of maid life. Her enthusiasm is rooted in her desire to bring happiness to others through the wholesome image of a traditional “cute maid.” However, her idealism is shaken upon discovering the violent and dangerous reality of Akihabara’s maid café underworld. Despite this, she continues to seek positivity and tries to remain hopeful in difficult situations.
Nagomi is one of the few members of the Oinky Doink Café who believes that problems can be solved peacefully, a view that initially irritated her co-worker Yumechi. Her commitment to non-violence is further challenged after witnessing the death of Nerula. This tragedy pushes her to shift her outlook, becoming a “technical pacifist” after being inspired by the leader of a ninja-themed café, General, to change her approach without completely abandoning her values.
The death of Ranko Mannen marks a breaking point for Nagomi. Devastated and seeking revenge, she abandons her earlier ideals and turns to violence. Armed with Ranko’s handgun, she aggressively pursues information about Ranko’s killer. She lashes out at her fellow maids, slapping Yumechi and accusing the others of failing to honor Ranko’s memory. In her rage, she declares her intent to eliminate as many members of the Creatureland Group as possible, hoping to see Ranko’s smile again in the afterlife.
Eventually, Nagomi comes to realize that revenge will not bring her peace. Choosing not to continue down a violent path, she recommits to the values she once held dear, returning to the kind, high-spirited girl who believes in the healing power of “moe moe kyun.”
Background
Nagomi Wahira arrives in Akihabara with a bright dream: to become a cute and cheerful maid. She is hired as a live-in maid at the Oinky Doink Café, where she starts her journey alongside Ranko Mannen, another newly hired maid though notably older and more experienced. Nagomi is determined and resilient, refusing to give up even after failures. However, she is quickly disillusioned upon discovering the violent and cutthroat reality of Akihabara’s maid café scene. Though she initially considers leaving, she is unable to do so due to her shared living arrangement with Ranko, who seems to keep a watchful eye on her.
After witnessing the brutal death of her fellow maid Nerula, Nagomi becomes traumatized and temporarily quits her position. She joins a ninja-themed café, where she adopts new techniques and learns from the guidance of its leader, General. Though emotionally changed, she eventually returns to the Oinky Doink Café, blending her new combat skills with her desire to protect the café and her co-workers. Despite her willingness to use force, she remains committed to her belief in non-lethal solutions, upholding a promise she made to Nerula to stay true to herself.
Nagomi continues to grow through various intense events. In Episode 8, she demonstrates her athleticism during a baseball showdown against the Axolotls, where she serves as the catcher and advocates for fair play. In Episode 9, during the Lady Omoe Festival, she works tirelessly to improve their stall’s appearance. Although the festival was rigged against them, she leads the Oinky Doink maids in a fierce climb to victory, planting their symbol atop Lady Omoe and earning the title of that year’s “Omoe-sama.”
In Episode 11, after Oinky Doink is cut off from Creatureland Group, Nagomi and Ranko visit the headquarters to return the Omoe title. There, Nagomi is held at sword-point by Nagi, who demands Ranko choose between them. When Ranko refuses, Nagi allows both to leave albeit with the demand to pay tenfold in sweets money. Nagomi is relieved that violence was avoided, but her peace is shattered shortly after, when Ranko is fatally stabbed while Nagomi is distracted looking at accessories for her.
Consumed by grief, Nagomi seeks vengeance in Episode 12. She proposes war against the Creatureland Group, confronting and injuring the Cow Ace Maid to extract information about Ranko’s killer. At Dorama, she interrogates General, who finally opens up after realizing Ranko is dead and that Nagomi is carrying her gun. Upon returning to Oinky Doink, Nagomi berates her fellow maids for their inaction and declares her intention to slaughter as many Creatureland maids as it takes to see Ranko’s smile again in the afterlife.
After a reflective visit to the site of Nerula’s death, Nagomi is ambushed by several Creatureland maids. Severely beaten, she confronts them with a heartfelt question: what is the point of being a maid if all they do is bring fear and violence? Before she can be killed, the Bear Ace Maid intervenes, citing the presence of too many witnesses. Nagomi is later released from police custody and returns to the café. Alone in the room she once shared with Ranko, she discovers mementos including a photo from their festival victory which helps her regain clarity. With support from her colleagues, she recommits to her original ideals and rejects violence.
During the series’ climax, all 26 Creatureland maids arrive at Oinky Doink. Nagomi delivers a rousing performance of “Lifetime Girl Declaration☆” to entertain Nagi and the others, promoting the idea that “maid violence is not moe.” Her message resonates with most of the leadership. However, Nagi resists and shoots Nagomi several times before being shot herself by the Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam Maid, who is moved by Nagomi’s convictions. As Nagi attempts to retaliate, she is ultimately killed by a sharpened bamboo spear thrown by Okachimachi.
In the post-credits scene, set in 2018, Nagomi is shown as a 36-year-old, wheelchair-bound maid still working at the newly reopened Oinky Doink Café, where she remains a beloved and respected figure.
Relationships
Ranko Mannen
Ranko Mannen joined the Oinky Doink Café on the same day as Nagomi, and from the beginning, served as a protective figure and silent mentor. Ranko defends Nagomi from an attack by Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam maids in Episode 1, establishing a bond of trust between them. In Episode 3, Nagomi shows concern for Ranko during a violent boxing match and gifts her a cute hair tie to help keep her hair back, an early gesture of friendship. In Episode 5, Nagomi goes out of her way to celebrate Ranko’s birthday and stands up for her when Kaoruko insults her. While the two are held captive, Ranko opens up to Nagomi about her past, deepening their connection in a rare moment of vulnerability and trust.
Nerula
Nerula is the first friend Nagomi makes in Akihabara. They meet while handing out flyers, and Nerula’s kind words give Nagomi strength during moments of doubt. She later helps Nagomi brainstorm ideas for events at the café. Their friendship is threatened when Maidalien, under the leadership of Manami, declares war on Creatureland and targets Oinky Doink Café. Though others propose assassination to end the conflict, Nagomi resists violence, fearing she may have to hurt Nerula. As an alternative, the café manager suggests they form a symbolic sisterhood bond. Nagomi offers, and Nerula accepts, happily saying, “I guess I’m a big sister now.” With General serving as the officiant and Yasuko as a witness, they formally become bonded sisters through a name tag exchange.
Manami Yamagishi
Nagomi faces a final confrontation with Manami in a public park, where Manami prepares for a deadly duel. Nagomi, however, refuses to retaliate with violence. Instead, she condemns Manami for killing Nerula and declares that while she will never forgive her, she wants her to live on as a maid choosing mercy over revenge.
Yasuko Yaegashi
Yasuko, the manager of the Oinky Doink Café, initially puts Nagomi in harm’s way on her first day, but eventually develops a maternal affection for her. She acts as a secondary mother figure, watching over her growth and even serving as a witness to her sisterhood ceremony with Nerula. In Episode 9, she becomes concerned when Nagomi abandons her responsibilities at the Akiba Maid Festival, and later feels guilty, imagining Nagomi as a helpless fish while fishing. She rushes to the festival and arrives in time to see Nagomi crowned as Lady Omoe. When their eyes meet in the crowd, Nagomi smiles and waves, affirming their mutual care and respect.
