Monkey D. Garp

Monkey D. Garp, also known as “Garp the Fist,” is a legendary Marine Vice Admiral renowned for his immense strength and heroic deeds. He is the father of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, the paternal grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy, and the adoptive grandfather of Portgas D. Ace. Despite his high rank and accomplishments, Garp has consistently refused promotions to Admiral due to his disdain for the World Nobles.

Appearance in Anime

Garp’s long and illustrious career spans back to the era of Gol D. Roger, during which he played a pivotal role in major events, including the God Valley Incident. His actions during this battle earned him the title of “Hero of the Marines,” solidifying his reputation as one of the grea Marines in history. Despite his heroic status, Garp’s deep disdain for the corrupt World Nobles led him to repeatedly decline offers of promotion to Admiral, preferring to serve as Vice Admiral.

Garp was entrusted with overseeing Portgas D. Ace’s birth and raising a young Monkey D. Luffy. While he attempted to instill the values of the Marines in both boys, they ultimately chose the path of piracy. Garp entrusted their upbringing to the Dadan Family, but he remained a significant figure in their lives. After the Summit War of Marineford and Ace’s death, Garp transitioned into a role as a Marine Instructor, focusing on training the next generation of Marines while still holding the rank of Vice Admiral.

Appearance

Garp is a tall, muscular man with a strong jawline and a grizzled appearance. His signature white Marine coat, often draped over his shoulders, highlights his high rank. He has a round nose and short, spiky gray hair, along with a distinctive scar over his left eye. Garp’s broad grin and hearty laugh reflect his boisterous and carefree personality, despite his fearsome reputation.

Personality

Garp is a jovial and straightforward individual who values justice but despises the corruption within the World Government. He is fiercely loyal to his family and friends, often balancing his duty as a Marine with his love for his grandchildren, Luffy and Ace. Garp’s playful demeanor often masks his incredible strength and tactical genius, making him a unique and unpredictable figure in the Marines. Despite his love for his family, Garp’s strict adherence to duty has sometimes placed him in direct conflict with them, as seen during the Summit War of Marineford.
