Appearance in Anime

Mitsuba has long, blonde hair tied in pigtails on either side of her head, with large violet eyes that add to her striking appearance. She is noted for her curvaceous figure, which stands out among her peers. Her attire consists of the standard JIDA uniform, which includes a long-sleeved black coat with a standing collar and a red bow tie. The sleeves of her coat are rolled up, and the front of the coat is adorned with two rows of gold buttons. Light green details and shoulder epaulettes complement the uniform, along with a Sam Browne belt passing diagonally over her right shoulder. Mitsuba also wears white gloves, a white web belt with a gold waist-plate, and the standard black skirt, which is paired with black shorts underneath. Her knee-high black boots complete the look, and on occasion, she wears a black cape, adding an extra layer of style to her uniform.

Personality

Mitsuba has a strong and assertive personality, often making her feelings known, especially when she is displeased with a situation. She initially voiced her reluctance to join a new group of recruits and became further irritated upon learning that Shinoa Hiragi was her squad leader. However, her tone softened when she realized her role would be to help train them. Mitsuba can be confrontational, not hesitating to take physical action if she believes it necessary. She once attempted to kick Yu, both when he disobeyed orders and when his actions endangered the squad, demonstrating her commitment to keeping everyone safe.

She is highly assertive, aware of the threats they face, and speaks earnestly about the dangers the squad must overcome. Mitsuba’s contempt for reckless behavior, especially as seen in Yu, stems from the trauma of losing her previous squad. Her experiences have made her serious about her duties and cautious about potential traps. Despite her tough exterior, Mitsuba places the safety of others before herself. When captured by vampires, she urged her squad to retreat to preserve their safety. She also shows a caring side, tending to Shinoa after she was slapped and defending Mika from her own comrades when they attacked him, demonstrating her loyalty and compassion for her team.

History

Mitsuba has been a member of the Vampire Extermination Unit since she was just 13 years old. She was part of a squad and was instructed to maintain formation during their missions. However, her sense of duty and compassion for her comrades led her to break formation when she saw one of her team members in immediate danger. Despite the orders, Mitsuba intervened in an attempt to save her comrade from the threat posed by the Four Horsemen of John.

Initially, Mitsuba felt a sense of accomplishment when she managed to free the captured team member by slicing off one of the monster’s arms. However, her victory was short-lived, as she was soon attacked by the other appendage. Tragically, this cost her the life of one of her team members, who had tried to protect her in the heat of the battle. This loss deeply affected Mitsuba, adding to her sense of responsibility and further shaping her serious and protective attitude towards her squad and their safety.

Powers and Abilities

Mitsuba’s Cursed Gear, Tenjiryū, is a formidable weapon that manifests from the air at her will. It is an exceptionally large war axe with a unique design. The weapon is primarily black, featuring a question mark-shaped body with three extensions attached to a single lime green-colored blade. The handle is yellow and guarded, allowing Mitsuba to wield it with either one or two hands.

Despite its massive size, Mitsuba can effortlessly lift and wield Tenjiryū, likely due to the strength it grants her or the naturally strong material it is made from. The axe is incredibly sharp and impactful, capable of breaking through powerful enemies like the Four Horsemen of John as well as cleaving into the ground itself. This ground-breaking ability is also a key part of the axe’s manifestation powers, allowing Mitsuba to summon the weapon in battle.
