Misono Alicein’s Appearance in Anime

At first impression, Misono Alicein comes across as arrogant, impolite, and distant, though this behavior conceals a genuinely kind and caring nature. Despite his aloof manner, he values his friendships deeply, particularly with Mahiru Shirota, whom he regards as his first true friend. Mahiru, in turn, recognizes Misono’s underlying warmth and does not allow his cold demeanor to obscure their bond.

Misono is physically frail, with a weak constitution that makes him sensitive about his health and height. He dislikes being in a position where others must protect him and aspires to become stronger so that he can protect those around him. Stubborn by nature, he tends to push for his own way and only accepts answers that align with his perspective.

Although he wishes to act mature, many aspects of his upbringing have left him childish. His father, Mikado, continues to shelter him and treat him as though he were much younger, enforcing strict routines such as early bedtimes and preserving his childlike beliefs, including faith in Santa Claus. This overprotection has contributed to his immaturity and his fear of simple things, such as the dark, snow in his clothes, or bubbles in his eyes. Having grown up without friends, Misono never learned common games, such as snowball fights, and often pretends he already knows the rules rather than admit his ignorance.

In his early childhood, Misono was described as cheerful and friendly. He held affection for his older brother Mikuni, though following the incident that led to Mikuni’s departure, he began referring to him with hostility, calling him an “idiot” or “bastard.” Despite his spoiled tendencies, Misono’s personality reflects both the scars of isolation and the care he feels for the friends he has finally found.

Appearance

Misono Alicein is depicted as a small and slender boy with a frail build. He has short, dark purple hair parted at the center, with a prominent strand sticking upward, and narrow purple eyes that match his hair color. Among the main cast, he is the shortest character aside from Hugh. His delicate features and refined looks often lead others, such as Sakuya, to describe him as a “pretty boy.”

He is most often seen in his school uniform from Mikado Ichinose Academy. The uniform consists of a jacket divided by color—black on the right with a white inverted cross, and purple on the left with a black cross accented with a white trim. Underneath, he wears a white long-sleeved shirt, paired with black slacks and black dress shoes. During the summer break, his attire shifts to a simpler outfit: a short-sleeved white shirt with purple lining and a black bracelet.

Background

Misono Alicein was born as the son of Mikado Alicein and Mikuni’s teacher, who were engaged in an affair. In his earliest years, he was raised by his mother until she was murdered by Mikuni’s mother out of jealousy. Although she killed Misono’s mother, she spared the child, acknowledging his innocence. As atonement, she and her husband resolved to raise Misono as their own son. During this period, Misono developed a close bond with his elder half-brother Mikuni, and the two often spent time together.

While Mikado and his wife treated Misono with affection, Mikuni’s mother struggled with jealousy toward him. Unable to suppress her feelings, she eventually attempted to kill Misono. In that moment, Mikuni intervened and killed his mother before she could harm him. Misono entered the room just as the incident occurred, leaving him deeply traumatized by the sight. Shortly afterward, Mikuni and his Servamp, Doubt Doubt, left the household. To shield Misono, Mikado ordered Snow Lily to erase the boy’s memories of the event and alter them so that he would not know the true reason for his brother’s departure. From that point on, Lily manipulated Misono’s thoughts whenever he approached the east wing of the Alicein estate, ensuring that he would forget where he intended to go. Household staff were forbidden from mentioning Mikuni, and Mikado maintained the pretense that Misono was his only son, though Misono retained some awareness of his brother’s existence.

Later, following the death of his grandfather, Misono encountered the Servamp of Lust, then known as All of Love, wandering alone in the family garden. Though the Servamp remained unresponsive due to the loss of his Eve, Misono approached him, offering the old pocket watch he had inherited from his grandfather. In doing so, he renamed him Snow Lily and formed a contract, making Lily his Servamp. From then on, Lily served as Misono’s Eve and protector of the Alicein household.

Because of his frail health, Misono spent most of his childhood confined to the Alicein villa, educated privately by a tutor named Hattori. Eventually, he attended a private school, though his poor constitution and sheltered upbringing prevented him from forming friendships during those early years.

Abilities

Execution Block of the Red Queen
Misono’s primary ability as an Eve is the Execution Block of the Red Queen, which he activates in conjunction with his Servamp, Snow Lily. In battle, Misono and Lily flank their target before summoning the ability. Once activated, the opponent is forced into a chair and rendered immobile. Lily can then strike with his scythe, inflicting no physical harm on the body but dealing significant damage to the opponent’s soul.

Outside of combat, Misono is frequently seen sitting in his Lead, a throne-like chair that symbolizes his contract with Lily. Due to his fragile constitution and low stamina, he often relies on the chair for support, even when not engaged in battle.

Relationships

Mahiru Shirota
Misono’s relationship with Mahiru Shirota begins on antagonistic terms when he demands that Mahiru hand over Kuro, leading to a confrontation. During their clash, Mahiru discovers Misono’s intention to use Kuro’s power to fight Tsubaki. However, Mahiru’s unexpected offer of an alliance surprises Misono, and the two eventually agree to cooperate. Their friendship gradually develops, beginning with Mahiru offering to exchange contact information and promising to introduce Misono to his friends. Misono initially resists these overtures but comes to accept their bond.

Over time, Misono grows genuinely concerned for Mahiru’s safety and well-being. He scolds him for reckless behavior and feels ashamed of his inability to protect him, which drives his desire to become stronger. Their relationship also reveals Misono’s more vulnerable side, as shown when Snow Lily teases him about wanting to impress Mahiru during their battle with Sakuya and Berkia. Despite his pride, Misono clearly values Mahiru’s trust and considers him a close friend.

Tetsu Sendagaya
Misono and Tetsu share a friendly relationship marked by frequent lighthearted bickering, particularly when Tetsu calls him “shortie” instead of “Big Bro” as he does with Mahiru, even though Misono and Mahiru are the same age. Despite the teasing, Tetsu respects Misono’s reasoning and planning abilities, often entrusting him with decision-making even in dangerous situations. Tetsu recognizes qualities in Misono that he himself lacks, such as leadership, confidence, and strategic thinking, while Misono values Tetsu’s strength, dependability, and emotional intelligence.

Together, the two form a complementary partnership: Misono is physically weak but demonstrates maturity and tactical insight, while Tetsu is strong and carefree yet struggles with responsibility. Their contrasting traits allow them to balance one another, making them effective allies both in and out of combat.
