Misa Iliorogue

Misa Iliorogue (ミサ・イリオローグ, Misa Iriorōgu), originally born as Misa Reglia (ミサ・レグリア, Misa Reguria), is a character inThe Misfit of Demon King Academy. She is a classmate of Anos Voldigoad, a member of the Unitarians, and serves as president of the Anos Fan Union. Misa is revealed to be the daughter of Shin Reglia and the Great Spirit Reno, and her existence embodies multiple roles: she is the spirit formed from the rumors and traditions surrounding the fictional Demon King Avos Dilhevia, as well as the Child of God (Kami no Ko), a being destined to oppose and ultimately destroy the true Demon King of Tyranny.

I can’t wait for someday. I want to save people now. I want to save as many suffering people as possible at this very moment. If I can’t do that, then I won’t be able to save anyone when that day comes.

Misa Iliorogue’s Appearance as Avos

Misa Iliorogue is portrayed as cheerful and optimistic, approaching life with a positive outlook and a determination to never give up. She is compassionate and empathetic, consistently striving to help others in need. Her decision to join the Unitarians reflects her desire to reform the hierarchical structure of demon society, which discriminates against hybrids. Her ultimate motivation was the hope of meeting her father, Shin Reglia, who could not openly acknowledge her because of these societal divisions. Despite this injustice, Misa harbors no hatred toward the royals themselves, instead aspiring for a future where hybrids and purebloods can unite peacefully. Her bravery is also demonstrated when she willingly endangers herself by reducing her own source to heal Lay Glanzudlii’s mother, an act that could have led to her own destruction.

Following her reincarnation, Misa retains the ability to transform into Avos Dilhevia. While she maintains her individuality in this state, traces of Avos’s personality exert influence over her. In this form, she becomes more confident and unyielding, displaying ruthlessness toward her enemies. Her demeanor toward Lay also shifts, as she expresses her affection more boldly, engaging in direct and even aggressive flirting, in contrast to the quieter and more passive manner she typically exhibits in her usual self.

Appearance

Misa Iliorogue is described as a small-statured girl with a pale complexion and soft, delicate features. She has brown hair tied with two white elastic bands, with uneven bangs, the right side being noticeably longer. Her eyes are brown that gradually fade into an orange hue, giving her a distinctive and warm appearance.

Her attire consists of the standard white uniform of the Demon King Academy, designated for non–pure-blood demons. The uniform is decorated with blue straight-lined embroidery along the collar, sleeves, hem, and top, with diamond-shaped patterns embroidered on the sleeves. She wears a quadrangle badge on her chest, paired with black tights and black boots featuring white soles, heels, and toes.

Misa also owns a Michens Necklace, a keepsake given to her by Lay Glanzudlii during the academy exchange with the Hero Academy. The necklace consists of a light brown shell marked with growth lines, suspended on a brown string. She treasures it deeply as a symbol of their bond.

History

Misa Iliorogue was conceived through the union of the Great Spirit Reno, Mother of Spirits, and Shin Reglia, the right hand of the Demon King of Tyranny, Anos Voldigoad. Before her reincarnation, Reno asked Shin to marry her, and their union resulted in Misa’s conception. However, Nosgalia, the God of Harmony, interfered during her birth. Using his divine powers, he designated her as the Child of God, a being destined to destroy Anos. He prematurely forced her delivery by employing Kurst, extracting her from Reno’s womb, and synchronized her source to embody the essence of the Imaginary Demon King, Avos Dilhevia. This transformation made her the spirit born from the rumors and traditions surrounding the false Demon King.

To protect her daughter, Reno stabilized Misa’s existence with her tears and entrusted her to the flow of time through the aid of Ezyssey, the Spring of Time, in the hope that Anos would one day save her. In order to ensure her survival, Shin was compelled to maintain and spread the legend of Avos Dilhevia, effectively betraying Anos, so that the lore surrounding the false Demon King would continue to support Misa’s existence. Nosgalia’s true aim, however, was to reclaim Abernyu’s Order of Destruction from Anos, who had sealed the Goddess of Destruction within Delsgade and forged her divine power into his signature sword, Venuzdonoa. Because the Demon King of Tyranny was said in legend to be the rightful master of Delsgade, Avos Dilhevia through Misa would be able to usurp control of the castle and the sword, allowing Abernyu to be freed.

Misa grew up unaware of the full truth of her origins, only knowing that her mother was a spirit and her father a high-ranking demon. Her mother died shortly after giving birth, and her father remained absent from her life, though she learned he belonged to the royal class. Because of the stigma surrounding hybrids, her existence had to be kept hidden. On her tenth birthday, Misa received half of a demon sword, instinctively sensing that her father possessed the other half. She came to believe the sword would one day be made whole when demons of royal blood and hybrids united. Motivated by this conviction, she joined the Unitarians, an organization advocating equality between royal demons and hybrids.

In time, Misa enrolled at the Demon King Academy, where she befriended several girls who were also members of the Unitarians. Her connections there eventually led to her role as the president of the Anos Fan Union, further solidifying her commitment to building a future where divisions between demons could be overcome.

Abilities

Spirit Control
As the daughter of the Great Spirit Reno, Misa possesses the ability to dominate and command spirits. Her source grants her authority over other spiritual beings, and she later demonstrates the capacity to summon spirits to assist her in battle.

Spirit Magic
Misa has a natural affinity for spirit magic, allowing her to replicate the abilities of other spirits and apply them in combat. While she demonstrates considerable versatility in this field, it is noted that her mother Reno remains superior in spirit magic overall.

Embodiment of the Demon King of Tyranny
By embodying the legend of the Imaginary Demon King Avos Dilhevia, Misa gains access to many of the powers associated with Anos Voldigoad, making her one of the most formidable beings in existence. However, her strength is tied to the lore surrounding Anos rather than his actual abilities, which are not fully known. After her eventual defeat, she acknowledges that she could not perceive the true limits of his abyss.

Immense Magical Power
In her true form as Avos Dilhevia, Misa wields extraordinary magical reserves. According to Anos, her magic power is great enough to rival his own. She demonstrated this capacity during her battle against Lay Glanzudlii, matching him in combat, though Lay himself was not fighting at full strength.

Immense Physical Strength
Despite her small frame, Misa exhibits significant physical power in her Avos form. She is shown restraining Lay, who himself is renowned for his physical prowess.

Spell Theory Knowledge
Inheriting the lore of the Demon King of Tyranny, Misa possesses advanced knowledge of spell theory. She is able to instantly develop new magic and enhance existing spells, including the magics Demera and Delor.

Divine Power Resistance
Because the Demon King of Tyranny is described in lore as the destroyer of gods, Misa inherits a natural resistance to divine abilities. She is capable of resisting the powers of Enes Ne Mes, the Keeper of Emotions, who can manipulate the feelings of others.

Relationships

Lay Glanzudlii
Misa first grew close to Lay Glanzudlii after she risked her own source to heal his dying mother, an act that created a deep bond between them. Their relationship strengthened over time, symbolized by Lay gifting Misa a one-shelled necklace from Azesion, an item historically used as a token of marriage proposals. Following the battle against Avos Dilhevia, the two openly confessed their love, with Lay affirming that Misa was the only person he had ever loved.

Anos Voldigoad
Misa has consistently supported Anos Voldigoad, most notably when she defended him against Emilia Ludwell’s discrimination toward hybrids. From the beginning, she trusted in Anos’s true identity as the reincarnated Demon King of Tyranny. Their friendship solidified after she demonstrated her abilities and earned his recognition. Her connection to the Great Spirit Reno, as well as her role within the Unitarians and Fan Union, further reinforced her bond with Anos, whom she greatly respects.

Trivia

    • Misa makes a cameo appearance at the end of episode 1 of the anime.
      • In the anime, her first manifestation of her true form featured six crystalline wings resembling her mother Reno’s and lighter blue hair, while she wore her Demon King Academy uniform during the Spirit Trial. In the light novel, however, her true form manifested in the midnight-blue dress she wears as Avos Dilhevia.
      • The anime presents Avos Dilhevia as both a half-spirit/half-demon and a pureblood demon. This is likely a result of her spirit powers adapting her appearance to align with the Royalists’ belief that the Demon King of Tyranny would reincarnate as a pureblood demon.
      • Misa, as Avos Dilhevia, is partially regarded as a divine being due to her possession of the Order of the Child of God.
      • In both her normal form and as Avos, Misa inherits much of her physical appearance from her mother Reno, noted for her tall and curvaceous figure.
