Minto Aizawa (藍沢 みんと, Aizawa Minto) is one of the main heroines of the manga and anime series Tokyo Mew Mew. She is the second member of the Mew Mews to be introduced and serves as Ichigo Momomiya’s first official teammate. Her DNA is merged with that of the blue lorikeet (Eos histrio), granting her agility, aerial abilities, and bird-like traits in her transformed state.
Appearance

Appearance in Mew Mew Form
Minto has navy blue hair, often styled into buns, and brown eyes. In her standard attire, she wears a mid-thigh white and black dress with tights, black pumps, and a blue ribbon accent.
In Tokyo Mew Mew New, her hairstyle changes, with her hair worn loose rather than in buns. Her school uniform consists of a long light-blue dress with puffed sleeves and a blue sleeveless vest over a white collar with black stripes. She pairs this with dark blue tights and strapped shoes. For casual wear, she is shown in a long-sleeved frilled blouse, a blue pleated skirt, loafers with knee-high socks, and accessories including a purse bag and a red fabric tie with a green gemstone clasp.
While working at Café Mew Mew, Minto wears a waitress uniform with a blue color scheme, styled to match the uniforms of the other staff members but tailored to her character theme.
When transformed into Mew Mint, her hair shifts from navy to indigo blue, styled again into buns, and her eyes also turn indigo. She wears a short aquamarine dress that extends just past her waist, paired with matching arm garters and a leg garter on her left thigh, each trimmed with dark blue lace. Her outfit includes a choker holding her Mew Pendant, blue gloves, and ankle boots. She also sprouts a dark blue feathered tail and bird-like wings, symbolizing her blue lorikeet DNA. Her Mew Mark, a pair of bird wings, appears between her shoulder blades.
In Tokyo Mew Mew New, her transformation outfit retains the same core design but features an updated color palette and added details. Her Mew Pendant is replaced with a blue ribbon holding a heart-shaped gem, her garter includes an attached ribbon, and her gloves gain a white band with a small blue gem. She also appears to wear inner gloves and socks beneath her boots, which now feature tied white ribbons. Her hair grows slightly longer, while retaining the distinctive bun style.
Personality
In her original portrayals, Minto is introduced as spoiled, snobbish, and self-centered, traits influenced by her wealthy upbringing. Over time, however, she is revealed to be empathetic and caring, showing deep affection for her fellow Mew Mews. She is especially devoted to Zakuro Fujiwara, whom she idolizes and often looks to for guidance, treating her with greater kindness than she does most others.
Despite her small stature, Minto is strong-willed and determined, capable of demonstrating considerable strength when cooperating with her teammates. Outside of battle, she has a passion for dancing, particularly ballet. Her favorite foods include French cuisine and scones, while she expresses mild dislike for common fare such as fast food or canned goods, though she will eat them if offered.
In Tokyo Mew Mew New, Minto is depicted as more soft-spoken and reserved than her earlier counterpart. While she still displays traces of her bossy attitude particularly toward Ichigo Momomiya she is generally calmer, more patient, and somewhat shy, reflecting a tsundere-like nature as she gradually learns to open up to the other Mew Mews.
This version of Minto places stronger emphasis on personal growth and responsibility, both as a Mew Mew and as a member of the Aizawa family. Feeling validated as the first girl chosen for the Mew Project, she takes her duties seriously and aspires to prove herself. She demonstrates ambition outside of her magical role as well, working on a project to design a roof-mounted wind generator with the hope that families across Japan might one day use such technology to reduce their carbon footprint.
Comedically, Mew Mew New highlights Minto’s flamboyant tendencies. For example, she arrives at the Momomiya household in a palanquin drawn by an ox and escorted by bodyguards, and even has her enormous bed transported from the Aizawa mansion to Ichigo’s room. Her wealthy eccentricities frequently surprise those around her, yet she shows courtesy and warmth when interacting with Ichigo’s family, enjoying Sakura Momomiya’s home cooking and prompting Shintarō Momomiya to remark that she behaved like an older sister to Ichigo.
Abilities
As a Civilian
Minto is a talented dancer, specializing in ballet, which contributes to her flexibility, balance, and grace. Despite her delicate appearance, she has notable endurance and demonstrates skill in hand-to-hand combat, though she seldom relies on it. Minto is also capable of swimming and shows an aptitude for archery, reflected in her proficiency with her Mew Mew weapon, the MinTone Arrow.
As a Mew Mew
Minto’s DNA is fused with that of a blue lorikeet, granting her abilities connected to birds. She is the only Mew Mew with the power of flight, aided by her feathered wings, and she also possesses the unique ability to communicate with birds.
Transformation
Minto’s transformation into Mew Mint reflects her passion for ballet. The sequence begins with her kissing her Mew Pendant before arching backward gracefully as her DNA morphs in the background. She then strikes an arabesque pose, twirls, and leaps into the air while releasing a trail of bright blue feathers. As her uniform materializes, she performs a series of elaborate ballet movements, concluding with her wings and tail plumage appearing. The transformation ends with her pendant glowing amid a burst of feathers before she strikes her finishing pose.
Etymology
Minto’s given name is written in hiragana (みんと), which has no inherent meaning in this form. However, when expressed in kanji, it can take on many different interpretations depending on the chosen characters. Some possible renderings include 海音 (“sea” and “sound”), 美音 (“beautiful sound”), 碧音 (“blue/green sound”), 眠兎 (“sleeping rabbit”), and 明桃 (“bright peach”), among others. These variations reflect themes of nature, beauty, and clarity, with several emphasizing color or sound, traits that resonate with her graceful and bird-like motif as a Mew Mew.
Her surname, Aizawa (藍沢), combines the kanji 藍 (ai), meaning “indigo,” with 沢 (sawa/zawa), meaning “marsh” or “swamp.” This directly ties her family name to her signature blue color theme and bird DNA, reinforcing her identity as Mew Mint.
