History

Mikuni Alicein’s Appearance in Anime
Mikuni Alicein was the firstborn son of Mikado Alicein. For much of his early life, he enjoyed the privileges of an aristocratic household and received private education under a house tutor, later revealed to be Misono’s mother, as well as instruction from Hattori. According to Hattori, Mikuni displayed remarkable intelligence and was a skilled chess player, even managing victories against both Hattori and his father.
His family life changed drastically when his mother, driven by jealousy, murdered Misono’s mother. Following the incident, Misono was taken into the Alicein household, and Mikuni gained a younger brother. While Mikuni grew to genuinely love Misono, he developed resentment toward his father, whom he accused of betraying his mother.
Seven years prior to the events of the series, Mikuni’s mother lost control of the power of Doubt Doubt, the Servamp of Envy, which had begun overflowing within her. Consumed by jealousy, she attempted to kill Misono. To protect his brother, Mikuni killed his mother, an act witnessed by Misono. Despite the trauma, Misono assisted Mikuni and Doubt Doubt in fleeing the manor. Mikuni subsequently formed a contract with Doubt Doubt, renaming him Jeje, and abandoned the Alicein household permanently.
In the aftermath, Mikuni lived on the streets until he was discovered by Tsurugi Kamiya, a young member of the C3 organization. Tsurugi took him in, and Mikuni eventually joined C3, where he shared quarters with Tsurugi and served on the same team. However, their relationship soured, with Mikuni revealing in Chapter 45 that his hatred toward Tsurugi stemmed from the latter’s willingness to kill humans in addition to vampires. The length of Mikuni’s time with C3 and the exact circumstances of his departure remain unclear, though Syuhei later suggested that Mikuni maintained some form of connection with the organization’s upper leadership.
Appearance
Mikuni Alicein is depicted as a tall, lean man with short blond hair, part of which falls over his face. He has brown eyes and is frequently seen wearing a dark brown hat with a red band, along with decorative clip-on plaits two on the right side of his hair and one on the left. His usual attire consists of a long-sleeved white shirt layered under a brown vest, beige trousers, black ankle-high boots, and a mandarin-colored scarf, giving him a distinctive and flamboyant appearance.
A notable aspect of Mikuni’s design is his attachment to a small female doll named Abel, which he almost always carries with him. He is protective of the doll, often scolding others for what he perceives as inappropriate attention toward it. His use of clip-on plaits may also be an homage to Abel, who shares a similar hairstyle, further emphasizing his sentimental connection to the doll.
Personality
Mikuni Alicein is portrayed as eccentric and flamboyant, often displaying unusual behavior that unsettles those around him. His strongest quirk is his attachment to his female doll, Abel, toward whom he shows deep affection and protectiveness. He frequently misinterprets skeptical looks from others as inappropriate interest in the doll, which prompts defensive and sometimes childish reactions. This eccentricity often frustrates his younger brother, Misono, as well as his Servamp, Jeje.
Beneath this outwardly playful and odd demeanor, Mikuni is mature, perceptive, and calculating. From a young age, he demonstrated strategic thinking and a capacity for manipulation, traits that serve him in the dangerous conflicts between Servamps and their Eves. Unlike many others, Mikuni shows little hesitation in taking lives when he judges someone to be too dangerous, revealing a pragmatic and ruthless side to his character. This duality childish eccentricity on the surface, cold pragmatism beneath defines Mikuni’s role as both an unpredictable ally and a dangerous adversary.
Weapons
Lead
Mikuni’s weapon as an Eve is his Lead, named My Fair Lady. The Lead manifests as a rope that is connected to his doll, Abel, which he carries at all times. In combat, a spectral figure of a woman appears holding the rope, which extends from Abel to the target’s neck. Once bound, the weight of Abel increases proportionally to the burden of the target’s sins. This effect strangles the victim, either killing them outright or, in the case of vampire subclasses, restraining them until Jeje delivers the final blow.
According to Mikuni, My Fair Lady functions only against individuals who have taken human lives, restricting its use to those he deems guilty of murder.
Relationships
Mikado Alicein
Mikado is Mikuni’s father. The two once shared a close bond, but their relationship deteriorated after Mikuni discovered his father’s affair with Misono’s mother, one of his private tutors. The affair led to a chain of events in which Mikuni’s mother killed Misono’s mother out of jealousy. Mikuni came to resent his father, openly expressing his hatred toward him. Mikado, however, accepts his son’s anger as a deserved consequence of his own betrayal, and despite everything, continues to love Mikuni. Even after Mikuni killed his mother and left the Alicein household, Mikado expressed a wish to reconcile with him and speak together as a family once more.
Misono Alicein
Misono is Mikuni’s younger half-brother. Despite knowing that Misono was the child of his father’s affair, Mikuni never blamed him and instead cared for him deeply. In their childhood, the brothers were close, often playing chess together. Mikuni’s attachment to Misono is strong enough that he keeps a photo collection of him, which he carries with him at all times. When their mother attempted to kill Misono under the influence of Doubt Doubt, Mikuni killed her to protect him, an act that strained their relationship for years. Misono’s memories of the incident were manipulated, leaving him angry and confused when they later reunited. After learning the truth, Misono’s feelings toward Mikuni remained conflicted, and he expressed uncertainty about reconciling with him.
Tsurugi Kamiya
Following his departure from the Alicein household, Mikuni joined the C3 organization and became part of a team with Tsurugi Kamiya and his Servamp, Jeje. During this time, Mikuni and Tsurugi shared a room, and their bond was described by Tsurugi as “shining days of youth.”
By the time of Mikuni’s return to C3 during Mahiru’s involvement, their relationship had deteriorated. The two frequently clashed, ranging from verbal disputes, sometimes bordering on playful banter to violent confrontations with the intent to kill one another. Despite this antagonism, Tsurugi often expressed happiness at seeing Mikuni, though whether his words were sincere or mocking remains ambiguous. He also recalled that Mikuni once ordered him around and exploited him in exchange for money, claiming he “did anything for Mikuni” and describing him as “wild at that age.” Nevertheless, Tsurugi reflects on those days with a sense of nostalgia.
