Miki Okudera (奥寺 ミキ,Okudera Miki), affectionately known as “Okudera-senpai,” is a supporting character inKimi no Na wa. She is a coworker of Taki Tachibana at an Italian restaurant, where their interactions spark a mutual attraction during the early stages of the film.

Miki Okudera is a stylish and attractive young woman characterized by her wavy, mid-length maroon hair, typically styled in a ponytail with two strands softly framing her face. Her striking amber eyes complement her fair complexion, and she often accentuates her look with red lipstick. Outside of her work environment, she occasionally opts for different hairstyles, allowing her hair to flow freely.

In her role at the Italian restaurant, Okudera dons a waitress uniform that includes a tailored black vest over a long-sleeved dress shirt, paired with a black bow tie, a knee-length black skirt, and elegant black heels, often complemented by sheer black leggings.

For her date with Taki Tachibana, orchestrated by Mitsuha Miyamizu, Okudera chose a chic black off-the-shoulder top paired with a white circle skirt. She accessorized with a stylish white panama hat adorned with a black bow, and carried a handbag while wearing a watch on her wrist.

By the epilogue set in 2021, Miki’s hair has grown longer, cascading freely around her shoulders, and she appears in a formal black business suit, reflecting her professional growth.

Miki Okudera embodies a feminine charm, often showcasing her style through fashionable clothing and a deliberate effort to appear attractive. When Taki Tachibana, under the influence of Mitsuha Miyamizu’s spirit, interacts with her, Okudera finds herself charmed by what she perceives as Taki’s cuteness. This admiration leads her to accompany him in his search for Mitsuha.

Despite her composed demeanor, Okudera has a penchant for smoking, a habit she admits to struggling with, feeling unable to quit despite her reservations. This complexity in her character reflects a blend of confidence and vulnerability, adding depth to her personality.

In the film, as Mitsuha navigates her new life in Taki’s body, she finds herself overwhelmed by the hectic atmosphere at the restaurant where Taki works. Just as she begins to struggle with the demanding customers, Miki Okudera steps in to resolve the situation with her characteristic poise. However, amidst the chaos, Miki’s skirt sustains a tear caused by some unkind patrons, showcasing the challenges the staff faces in their busy environment.

Etymology

Miki’s name is primarily represented in katakana (ミキ), which does not convey any specific meaning. However, when expressed in kanji as 美紀, it can be interpreted to signify “beautiful” (美) (mi) and “chronicle” (紀) (ki).

Her surname, Okudera, combines the characters for “back” or “inner part” (奥) (oku) and “temple” (寺) (tera/dera), suggesting a connection to depth and spirituality. Following her marriage, her name changes to Fujii, where 藤 (fuji) means “wisteria,” a flower often associated with grace, and 井 (i) denotes “well” or “mine shaft,” hinting at something foundational or deep-rooted.
