Appearance in manga

Mey-Rin is a young woman with a distinctive appearance, marked by her striking maroon-red hair, often styled in high pigtails. Her eyes are a soft hazel, though her vision is far from ordinary. Despite her need to wear large, thick round glasses—given to her by her master, Ciel Phantomhive—to assist her in seeing up close, her extraordinary eyesight allows her to shoot and hit targets from incredible distances, even up to a thousand miles away.

Her outfit consists of a maid’s uniform designed by Nina Hopkins, which is both practical and functional for her role. The uniform includes a chemise, black stockings, and a bulletproof corset, offering her some protection. She wears a petticoat underneath and a matching dress with a well-fitted apron. The apron is designed with special buttons that help her tuck her skirt into the garter belt, allowing her to conveniently carry magazine pouches for her weapons. She also wears a white frilly cap on her head and lace-up boots, completing her maid ensemble with a touch of elegance.

Mey-Rin’s attire is a blend of practicality for her duties as a maid and for her more dangerous role as a sniper, showing her versatility and strength as part of the Phantomhive household staff.

Personality

Mey-Rin is a determined and strong-willed individual, constantly striving to prove her worth. Fiercely loyal to Ciel Phantomhive, she values her role as part of the Phantomhive household and holds a deep respect for Sebastian Michaelis, even harboring a romantic crush on him. She admires Sebastian’s appreciation for her skills as a sniper and his recognition of her abilities, which makes her feel validated and valued.

Despite her clumsy and ungainly nature when performing her duties as a maid, Mey-Rin is an incredibly skilled sniper, a talent that makes her an indispensable member of the team. She is tasked with guarding the Phantomhive Manor at night and is proficient in dispatching enemies from afar. Her eyesight, which allows her to discern objects at great distances, is key to her precision when shooting.

Mey-Rin has an attachment to her glasses, a gift from Ciel, and refuses to replace them, despite their worn condition. However, when taking on her sniper role, she removes her glasses to focus entirely on her target. She also prefers to work without a scope, relying on her natural aim and speed. To optimize her performance, she keeps a stockpile of rifles on the manor’s rooftop to minimize reload time. Whether wielding high-powered rifles, handguns, or other firearms, Mey-Rin proves herself a sharp and effective marksman. Despite her occasional clumsiness, she is an invaluable asset to the Phantomhive household.

History

Mey-Rin’s backstory reveals her as an initially hostile figure tasked with assassinating Ciel Phantomhive, the Queen’s Watchdog. In 1887, she was given the assignment to kill Ciel, and she carefully studied the Phantomhive Manor and its inhabitants in preparation for the mission. Mey-Rin waited for the perfect moment to strike, but when the time came, she missed her target, forcing her to retreat and reconsider her approach.

However, her escape was short-lived as she was caught by Sebastian Michaelis, who pursued her with inhuman speed. Disarmed and brought back to the manor, Mey-Rin was presented to Ciel. Despite her failure to complete her mission, Sebastian saw potential in her, recognizing her exceptional eyesight and skills. Given the shortage of staff at Phantomhive Manor, Sebastian suggested that Ciel hire her as a maid. Ciel agreed, and Mey-Rin was brought on as part of the Phantomhive household staff, where she would later become an invaluable member of the team, utilizing her sharpshooting abilities to protect the manor and support Ciel’s endeavors.
