Meteora Österreich (メテオラ・エスターライヒ), is an NPC from the open-world RPG AVALKEN of Reminisce (追憶のアヴァルケン, Tsuioku no Avaruken) and the true female protagonist of Re:Creators. She was originally the Sage of the End of the World, a librarian of the Kunst Wunderkammer, located in the Last Tableland within her game’s universe. Unlike most “Created” characters who were central figures in their original stories, Meteora was an NPC designed to provide knowledge and guidance, which gave her a unique perspective on both reality and storytelling.
Following the Catastrophe, she finds herself in the real world, where she meets Sōta Mizushino and Selesia Upitiria. With her extensive knowledge of lore and world mechanics, she quickly becomes one of the most intellectual and strategic members of the battle against Altair, using her analytical mind and magic to assist her allies. Despite her typically stoic and monotone demeanor, she possesses a hidden charm, often attempting (and failing) to lighten the mood with terrible puns.
Background

Appearance in anime
In AVALKEN of Reminisce, Meteora was a non-playable character (NPC) programmed to provide lore, guidance, and wisdom to players. She resided in the Kunst Wunderkammer, an ancient library containing the history of her world, where she assisted players by translating ancient texts and uncovering secrets. Though she was a sage of immense knowledge, her role was passive, as she lacked direct offensive combat abilities, relying instead on defensive magic and flight.
However, after the Catastrophe, Meteora was somehow transported into the real world, where she realized that her creator had already passed away, leaving her without a direct human connection like the other “Created” characters. Despite this loss, she adapted remarkably well, using her analytical skills to piece together the laws governing their new reality. Understanding that Altair’s power could disrupt the balance between fiction and reality, Meteora dedicates herself to helping Sōta and Selesia gather the “Created” characters and devise a way to stop Altair’s destruction.
Appearance
Meteora is a petite young woman with short silver hair and striking blue eyes, which reflect her calm and intelligent nature. She wears a flowing blue cloak over white and black robes, which resemble traditional mage attire, emphasizing her role as a sage and scholar. Her elegant and mystical appearance contrasts with her deadpan personality, making her a visually striking yet unassuming presence among the “Created” characters. She is often seen floating rather than walking, further reinforcing her otherworldly nature.
Personality
Meteora is intellectual, analytical, and deeply observant, often serving as the strategic mind of the group. She speaks in a slow, bland, and monotone voice, giving off an impression of detachment and emotionlessness. However, beneath her stoic exterior, she is a kind and caring individual, always considering the well-being of her allies.
Though she struggles with expressing emotions naturally, she makes genuine efforts to fit in, attempting puns and jokes to lighten the mood even though her jokes are notoriously terrible. Despite this, her awkward humor becomes a quirky and endearing trait, making her more relatable to her allies.
One of Meteora’s most unexpected traits is her love for real-world food, a stark contrast to her intellectual and serious demeanor. She frequently indulges in delicacies from the real world, savoring every bite as if experiencing true joy for the first time. This simple pleasure highlights her appreciation for existence, despite being a “fictional” character.
Role in the Story
-
Adapting to the Real World
Unlike many of the “Created” characters who struggle to accept their new reality, Meteora immediately embraces the logical implications of her situation. Recognizing that the rules of the real world differ from fiction, she takes a scientific and investigative approach, helping Sōta and the others unravel the mechanics of their existence. -
Strategizing Against Altair
Meteora plays a key role in understanding Altair’s overwhelming power, analyzing how she was created and how her abilities function. Her insights lead to the development of countermeasures, allowing the group to formulate a plan to stop Altair’s reality-breaking influence. -
Supporting the “Created” Characters
Throughout the series, Meteora serves as a guide and strategist, providing essential knowledge that helps the “Created” characters adapt to their new reality. Her presence ensures that the group remains grounded, using logic and analysis to make informed decisions rather than acting impulsively.
Relationships
Sōta Mizushino
Meteora is one of Sōta’s closest allies, often serving as a mentor and guiding figure. Unlike Selesia, who encourages Sōta to be braver, Meteora provides him with intellectual and emotional support, helping him rationalize his fears and take responsibility for his actions.
Selesia Upitiria
Though their personalities differ greatly, Meteora and Selesia work well together, forming a strong partnership. Selesia is bold and action-driven, while Meteora is calm and strategic, making them a balanced duo in battle.
Takashi Matsubara (Selesia’s Creator)
Meteora frequently interacts with Takashi Matsubara, Selesia’s creator, discussing the nature of storytelling and creation. Their discussions highlight her deep understanding of fictional narratives, proving that she is more self-aware than most “Created” characters.
Altair
As the main antagonist, Altair represents the ultimate threat to the balance of reality and fiction. Meteora is one of the first to analyze Altair’s abilities, providing critical information that leads to the group’s plan to counter her influence.
