Appearance in Anime

Melida is initially portrayed as a shy and reserved individual, struggling with a lack of self-confidence due to her inability to inherit the Paladin mana of the Angel bloodline. Despite this, she possesses a strong sense of compassion and protectiveness, particularly toward those she cares about. This quality is evident during her first encounter with Williams Gin, where she demonstrates her willingness to put herself in danger to shield others.

Her relationship with Kufa Vampir plays a pivotal role in shaping her growth. Through his guidance and training, Melida gradually develops greater confidence in her abilities and learns to embrace her determination. During the Luna Lumiere tournament, her progress becomes clear when she successfully adapts and executes an assault technique after witnessing it only once, showcasing her natural aptitude for combat when given the chance to prove herself.

Appearance

Melida is depicted as a petite girl with waist-length blonde hair, which she styles with two small side buns secured by a red ribbon. She has striking ruby-colored eyes, emphasizing her noble lineage.

Most of the time, Melida is seen wearing the St. Friedeswiedes Academy for Girls uniform, reflecting her status as a student of the academy. Her appearance combines youthful elegance with a delicate, refined look that highlights both her aristocratic background and her gentle personality.

Background

Melida Angel was born into the prestigious Angel household, part of the Paladin aristocracy, one of the three major noble lineages in the world. The family is renowned for passing down the Holy Knight class mana, with its members traditionally serving in elite organizations such as the Crest Legion. Unlike her relatives, however, Melida was born without the ability to manifest mana, a circumstance that branded her with the derogatory title of the “incompetent talented girl” among noble society.

Her life changed under the tutelage of Kufa Vampir, who, defying his original mission, performed a dangerous mana transplant procedure, granting her the ability to wield power. With her newfound abilities, Melida resolved to prove her legitimacy as an Angel and aspired to join the Crest Legion, demonstrating her determination to live up to the expectations of her family name while forging her own path.

Equipment

As a member of the Samurai class, Melida’s primary weapon is a katana. The sword’s design reflects her personal style, with a golden hilt, crossguard, and grip that mirror the color of her hair. The weapon is further customized to her taste, featuring a small pink bear mascot tied to the grip with a red ribbon, symbolizing both her individuality and her youthful charm.

Relationships

Kufa Vampir
Kufa serves as Melida’s tutor, a role that greatly influences her growth and confidence. Melida places deep trust in his judgment and often defends him from criticism, such as when Nerva mocked his lower-class origins. Over time, she develops romantic feelings for Kufa, declaring her desire to one day stand beside him as a woman worthy of his respect and affection.

While Kufa occasionally treats her as a child, which frustrates Melida, she longs for him to acknowledge her maturity as a young woman. Despite this dynamic, their bond grows steadily stronger, blending the roles of mentor, protector, and eventual romantic partner.

Elise Angel
Elise is Melida’s cousin, though the two share a bond akin to that of sisters. Melida affectionately calls her “Elli.” In childhood, Melida acted as a big-sister figure to Elise, but their relationship was strained when Elise’s mana awakened while Melida remained powerless. This disparity fueled criticism of Melida within noble society, widening the gap between them.

Elise dislikes competing against Melida in tournaments, as she fears confirming the perception that she is the stronger of the two. Melida’s main aspiration is to stand alongside Elise as an equal, proving her own worth to both their family and society. Despite the strain, Melida continues to cherish Elise and views her with deep affection.

Rosetti Pricket
Rosetti, Elise’s private tutor, is generally kind toward Melida, though tension arises when she asks Kufa to pretend to be her lover. Melida reacts with jealousy upon seeing Rosetti clinging to Kufa, even mirroring her actions by holding his other arm. Nevertheless, Melida respects Rosetti’s importance both to Elise and to Kufa, particularly after learning of Rosetti’s past connection to him. Aware of Rosetti’s hidden identity as Kufa’s vampire kin, Melida promises to keep her secret.

Mule La Mor
Melida first encounters Mule during the Luna Lumiere Selection, later discovering her status as one of the Duke’s heiresses. Their paths cross again during the Vibria Goat Exam, where they cooperate alongside Elise and Salacha. Melida often relies on Mule’s knowledge and experience, while Mule, in turn, finds Melida endearing and frequently teases her in a mischievous manner, sometimes leading them both into troublesome situations.

Salacha Shicksal
Salacha meets Melida during the Luna Lumiere Selection, where both are forced to represent their academies. Later, at the Vibria Goat Exam, Melida learns that Salacha is also one of the Duke’s heiresses and Mule’s childhood friend. During their time together, the two develop a trusting relationship. Melida is occasionally teased about Salacha’s body by Mule and Elise, and she sometimes joins their playful antics, reflecting both her curiosity and her growing closeness with them.

Trivia

    • According to both Kufa Vampir and Williams Gin, Melida may possess the potential to become a Paladin, the hereditary class of the Angel family.
    • She is regarded as one of the most popular characters in Assassin’s Pride.
    • Melida’s golden hair is considered unusual within the Angel family, whose members traditionally have silver-white hair. This difference, combined with her initial lack of mana, fueled rumors among nobles that she was the result of her mother’s affair and not a legitimate Angel heir.
    • It is revealed that Lacey La Mor, a descendant of the La Mor family, confirms that Melida does indeed carry the blood of the Duke. However, the origin of her mana remains uncertain and is suggested to be tainted with vampire influence associated with the Lancanthrope class, though this has not been fully confirmed.
