Megumi Fushiguro

Megumi Fushiguro( 伏 黒 恵 Fushiguro Megumi ) is the deuteragonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. A grade 2 jujutsu sorcerer and first-year student at Tokyo Jujutsu High, Megumi studies alongside Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki under the mentorship of Satoru Gojo. Despite his reserved demeanor, Megumi is a highly skilled sorcerer with a deep sense of justice and an unwavering determination to protect those he cares about.

Megumi is the step-brother of Tsumiki Fushiguro and the son of Toji Fushiguro, a rogue sorcerer once affiliated with the Zenin Clan. As Toji’s child, Megumi is a descendant of the prestigious Zenin family, though he was born outside the clan. Considered his father’s “trump card” due to his immense potential as a sorcerer and inheritor of the Ten Shadows Technique, Megumi’s talent caught the attention of Satoru Gojo. After Toji’s death, Satoru took Megumi under his wing, ensuring his enrollment at Jujutsu High and guiding him to develop his skills as a sorcerer.

Appearance

Megumi Fushigurois a relatively tall and slim young man with fair skin and upward-slanting green eyes (depicted as dark blue in the anime adaptation), which reflect his stern and colder personality. His distinctively styled black hair features long, sharp spikes that jut out in all directions, resembling a sea urchin, as humorously noted by Hakari. Upon meeting Megumi, Satoru Gojo remarked on his strong resemblance to his father, Toji Fushiguro, with whom Megumi shares similar facial features and the same striking green eyes.

Following the events of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, during which he was separated from Sukuna, Megumi acquires three facial scars corresponding to Sukuna’s incarnated form. One scar is located below his left eye, while the other two mirror the position of the additional eyes Sukuna’s second face once possessed.

Megumi typically dons the standard Tokyo Jujutsu High uniform, consisting of a dark blue jacket over a long-sleeved white dress shirt. His uniform pants match his jacket, reaching just above his shins, and he pairs the outfit with long black socks and low-top brown shoes. For training, Megumi also owns a blue tracksuit.

In middle school, Megumi wore the Saitama Urami East Junior High uniform, which consisted of a tan jacket over a white dress shirt, black pants, and white sneakers. While sneaking into the Gachinko Fight Club, he disguised himself in a black hoodie, matching pants, and his regular shoes, reflecting his resourceful and pragmatic approach.

Personality

Megumi Fushiguro is stoic, aloof, and calculating, often maintaining a neutral expression that gives the impression he takes everything seriously. His demeanor contrasts with the lively personalities of Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki, and Satoru Gojo, which frequently irritates him. Despite this, he deeply values his comrades, even if he struggles to express his emotions outwardly.

From a young age, Megumi was stern, thoughtful, and mature beyond his years, even prompting Satoru Gojo to question if he was truly a child. However, his experiences growing up hardened him, leaving him jaded. He developed a strict moral code, acting as a self-appointed enforcer against bullies, which earned him a reputation as a troublemaker during his middle school years. His resentment toward his father, Toji Fushiguro, and his deep bond with his step-sister, Tsumiki, heavily shaped his worldview.

Tsumiki’s kindness and selflessness served as a moral compass for Megumi, but their differing ideals often caused friction. Megumi was critical of “bad people with unearned pride” and equally frustrated by good people who showed excessive mercy. Despite their disagreements, Tsumiki’s influence remained a constant in Megumi’s life, and her fall into an unending sleep became a turning point that drove him to become a jujutsu sorcerer.

While Megumi initially struggled with the idea of saving others, questioning whether it was right or logical, he ultimately decided to act on his emotions rather than strict reasoning. He acknowledged that life’s inherent unfairness made saving people an emotional choice rather than a moral one, and he resolved to save others, even if it wasn’t “fair.” This emotional decision defined his role as a sorcerer and reinforced his desire to protect those he cared about.chibiform, where she appears with dry, cracked skin, pimples, and exaggerated features, further symbolizing her inner struggle.

Despite his serious demeanor, Megumi is deeply loyal to his friends and allies, gradually learning to rely on them. Over time, he overcame his reserved nature, opening up to Yuji and Nobara and forming a close bond with them. His growth as a sorcerer was paralleled by his willingness to trust others, which was crucial in his development.

Megumi’s personality is also marked by his disdain for tradition and authority. He rejects the rigid rules of the jujutsu world and acts according to his conscience, such as when he chose to save Yuji from execution, despite the consequences. He also displayed a lack of loyalty to the Zenin Clan, treating Tsumiki as his true family and remaining disinterested in the clan’s wealth or status.

When faced with challenges, Megumi is pragmatic and unyielding, showing little hesitation in making difficult decisions. During the Culling Game, his determination to save Tsumiki led him to act ruthlessly, prioritizing his mission over sentimentality. However, even in his darkest moments, Megumi’s loyalty to his friends and his desire to protect others remained central to his character.

After Sukuna’s possession and Tsumiki’s death, Megumi experienced profound despair but found the strength to continue fighting with the support of his comrades. He declared his intent to live for others’ sake, cementing his resolve to push forward despite his losses. This balance between his inner struggles and unwavering commitment to justice makes Megumi a complex and compelling character.
