Medusa Gorgon

Medusa Gorgon was a cunning and ambitious snake witch whose ultimate goals revolved around the study and proliferation of Black Blood, a substance she sought to use as a tool for chaos and power. She infiltrated Death Weapon Meister Academy by assuming the guise of the school’s doctor to gather information, manipulate students and staff, and carry out her plans to revive the Kishin, Asura, and spread Madness across the world.

Appearance in manga

Medusa Gorgon has a striking and sinister appearance that reflects her snake-themed powers and manipulative nature. She is a young woman with long blonde hair, styled with arrowhead-shaped tips, symbolizing her precision and sharp cunning. Her most common attire is a black, body-length suit that extends to her knees, emphasizing her sleek and serpentine aesthetic. The suit is adorned with a hood, marked on either side with eye-like symbols. When worn, the combination of the hood and her hair creates the impression of a snake’s open mouth, complete with “teeth” and “fangs.”

Medusa’s feet are bare, adding an element of primal wildness to her otherwise composed appearance. Her fingernails and toenails are painted black with yellow vector arrow designs pointing upward, further accentuating her connection to her Vector Arrow Magic and her meticulous personality.

Medusa’s soul is equally reflective of her snake motif, taking on the appearance of the Gorgon head from Greek mythology. Rather than snakes, however, her soul is adorned with the vector arrows synonymous with her magic. It is distinctly purple in color, standing out among the souls of other witches and reinforcing her unique identity and power.

Personality

Medusa was a cold, calculating, and manipulative individual, possessing an unwavering ambition to achieve her goals, regardless of the cost. Her intelligence and cunning made her a master manipulator, adept at bending others to her will through deceit and psychological tactics. She held a nihilistic worldview, believing in the concept of “progress through chaos”, and sought to use the Black Blood as a means to spread Madness and disrupt the natural order.

Despite her ruthless nature, Medusa was adept at masking her intentions, often using charm and feigned kindness to manipulate those around her. She was also extremely ruthless and sadistic, showing little to no remorse for the suffering she caused. Her relationship with her child, Crona, exemplified her cruelty, as she subjected them to intense psychological and physical abuse to shape them into a tool for her plans.

Medusa’s character, however, is not without complexity. While she displayed no traditional maternal instincts toward Crona, her fascination with the potential of the Black Blood and her unwavering belief in her ideals hinted at a perverse form of care, albeit twisted and self-serving.

Role in the Story

Medusa served as one of the primary antagonists of the Soul Eater series, orchestrating much of the conflict surrounding the Black Blood and the revival of the Kishin. Her infiltration of the DWMA allowed her to manipulate key events, pitting students and faculty against each other while furthering her research. Despite being defeated multiple times, her cunning nature ensured her continued influence throughout the series, even after her physical death.
