Manami Yamagishi

Manami “Supernova” Yamagishi (愛実・スーパーノヴァ・山岸, Manami Sūpānova Yamagishi) is a major antagonist in the anime series Akiba Maid War. She serves as the Acting Representative of the Maidalien Group, one of the rival factions within the cutthroat maid café underworld of Akihabara. Appearance in Anime

After serving a seven-year prison sentence, Manami “Supernova” Yamagishi returns to Akihabara with the intention of reclaiming her status as the strongest and most feared maid. Upon her release, she is frustrated to find that Ugaki, the current boss of the Maidalien Group, has adopted a pacifist stance—particularly in response to the annihilation of their affiliate, Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam, by the Oinky Doink Café. Viewing Ugaki’s nonviolent approach as weakness, Manami forcefully seizes control of Maidalien and declares war on Oinky Doink Café.

A legendary figure from the previous generation of maids, Manami was instrumental in expanding Maidalien’s reputation through sheer brutality and strategic dominance. She holds deep affection for the organization and is obsessed with launching the so-called “Akiba Big Bang,” a full-scale war with the rival Creatureland Group. When Nerula, a member of Maidalien, defects and forms a symbolic sisterhood with Nagomi Wahira, Manami sees it as treason and publicly executes Nerula in front of Nagomi.

One week after Nerula’s death, Manami leads a large-scale assault on Oinky Doink Café, accompanied by a sizable force of Maidalien maids. Despite fierce resistance from Ranko, Zoya, and Yumechi, the odds are stacked against the café staff. The tide shifts when Nagomi appears in a ninja-themed outfit, using smoke bombs and kunai to level the battlefield. Manami is eventually pulled away from the chaos by Miyabi, one of her subordinates.

As the conflict unfolds, Manami attempts to call in reinforcements, only to discover that the Maidalien leadership has betrayed her striking a truce with Creatureland in the hope that both sides will eliminate each other. Wounded and cornered, Manami is tracked to a park by Ranko and Nagomi. However, Nagomi refuses to kill her. Instead, she delivers a powerful slap and tells her to live on as a maid, choosing mercy over vengeance.

Manami limps back to Maidalien headquarters, only to be met with final betrayal. Ugaki, now disillusioned with Manami’s leadership, declares that he no longer follows her orders. Along with other executives, he guns her down. As she dies, Manami quietly mutters, “It hurts to be alive,” before collapsing. Her body is later sealed in a drum and disposed of at sea by the Maidalien leadership.

Following the merger of Maidalien and Creatureland, a formal funeral is held for Manami. Her portrait and red bat are displayed at the altar. However, tensions remain high among surviving members, many of whom resent the merger and express dissatisfaction with the ceremony. The funeral is soon interrupted by the Debt Collector, who forces Yasuko Yaegashi to attend and offer condolences. Tensions escalate further when the Debt Collector announces that the remaining Maidalien members will be rebranded as the Memory Lane Animal Café Axolotl, further enraging the group.

As conflict brews, Nagi arrives and proposes a baseball game between Oinky Doink and the newly renamed Axolotl Café to settle the score. During the match, Kasumi, one of the Axolotl maids who admired Manami, vows to hit a ball to the heavens in her honor using Manami’s red bat. However, due to Zoya’s powerful pitch, the bat is shattered, and the ball is caught by Nagomi sealing the game and symbolizing the end of Manami’s era.

Appearance

Manami Yamagishi is a tall woman with long, light blue hair styled with blunt bangs. She has bright blue eyes and typically wears light makeup. Her maid uniform, which she continues to wear after her release from prison, is notably disheveled and worn reflecting both her rough personality and her detachment from the more polished image expected of maids in Akihabara.

Personality

Manami “Supernova” Yamagishi, also known by the moniker “Crimson Supernova”, is infamous for her aggressive demeanor and formidable combat abilities. Her violent tendencies, unfiltered attitude, and intimidating presence earned her a fearsome reputation in Akihabara’s maid underworld. She is rarely seen without her signature red baseball bat, which she carries as both a weapon and a symbol of her identity.

Manami communicates using a strong Hiroshima dialect, further emphasizing her blunt, no-nonsense personality and regional toughness.

Relationships

Miyabi
Miyabi is a loyal subordinate of Manami and follows her orders without hesitation. She supports Manami during battles, including the raid on Oinky Doink Café, and later helps her escape when the group is overpowered. After assisting with Manami’s injuries at a nearby park, Manami instructs her to leave, expressing resignation over the failure of her plan. Miyabi departs reluctantly, disheartened by the outcome.

Following Manami’s execution by the Maidalien executives, Miyabi disguises herself as the Axolotl mascot of the rebranded Memory Lane Animal Café and assassinates Kazue Ugaki in an act of revenge. Her actions send Molly another Axolotl maid into a frenzy, leading Molly to seize the dagger and immediately stab Miyabi to death.

Nerula
Nerula attempts to warn Nagomi Wahira about Manami’s orders to destroy Oinky Doink Café and secretly tips off a local police officer. However, Manami and Miyabi bribe the officer and uncover Nerula’s betrayal. The two track down Nerula, arriving at her hiding place just as Nagomi and Ranko Mannen do. Nerula takes full responsibility and tries to attack Manami, but is overpowered, beaten, and ultimately executed in front of Nagomi further escalating the conflict between the two cafés.

Ranko Mannen
Manami and Ranko briefly bond over drinks at Dorama, the ramen shop beneath Oinky Doink Café. The two reflect on their pasts as old-school maids in an evolving and increasingly violent Akihabara. Despite sharing mutual respect, their opposing affiliations make them adversaries.

During their final encounter in the park, Ranko is prepared to kill Manami in retaliation for her crimes, but Nagomi intervenes and prevents her from pulling the trigger, choosing a path of mercy instead.

Nagomi Wahira
Nagomi and Manami’s relationship culminates in a final confrontation at a park, where Manami is prepared to fight to the death. However, Nagomi refuses to kill her, stating she will never forgive Manami for Nerula’s murder, but demands that she live on as a maid. Nagomi’s decision to show mercy ultimately marks a turning point in her own personal journey, as well as a moment of defeat for Manami.

Trivia

    • In her final scene, the puddle of blood beneath Manami’s body visually resembles the rose decoration on her headpiece, symbolizing a poetic and dramatic end to her character.
