I am the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for courage! I am Sailor Jupiter! I’ll make you feel so much regret, it’ll leave you numb!
— Sailor Jupiter

Appearance

Civilian
Makoto Kino has wavy chestnut hair, typically styled in a ponytail with a green hair tie, and wears distinctive pink rose earrings. She stands out as the tallest member of the Inner Sailor Senshi, giving her a mature and athletic look.

Her school uniform includes a white, long-sleeved sailor blouse with a cross-corset design and a white lace ribbon at the center, accompanied by a khaki skirt with a matching long lace ribbon at the back. She pairs this with black heels. Her uniform, accented with khaki and white linings, contrasts with her previous school’s style, as seen in flashbacks with her friend Tomoko. In warmer weather, she rolls up her sleeves to create a short-sleeved look.

Makoto’s casual attire varies across seasons. In the first through early fourth seasons, she mainly wears pants or shorts, while in the fourth season, she is often seen in dresses. Her primary casual outfit features an orange and pale yellow jacket over a yellow short-sleeved undershirt, pale blue jeans, sneakers, and sometimes a cap.

Sailor Jupiter
In her Sailor Jupiter form, Makoto retains her civilian look, including her pink rose earrings, and adds a gold tiara with a dark green stone. Her Sailor uniform has dark green as the main color, reflected in her skirt, collar, choker, glove cuffs, boots, and brooch. Her front and back bows are pink, and her boots, which reach just above the ankles, have white laces and a slight heel.

A unique feature of Sailor Jupiter’s uniform is the lightning antenna that emerges from her green tiara stone when she activates her lightning powers.

Super Sailor Jupiter
When she receives her “Super” upgrade from Pegasus, her uniform gains enhancements. Her choker is adorned with a gold star, her collar retains a single stripe, and her front bow center transforms into a heart. The lower part of her shoulder pads becomes translucent, and her pink back bow is enlarged and lengthened, adding to her powerful and graceful appearance.

Makoto Kino is a teenage girl with a tomboyish vibe, known for her transfer to Juban Public Middle School in her early teenage years. Tragically, she lost her parents in a plane accident when she was young, which led her to live independently in her own apartment. Her tall stature, tough demeanor, physical strength, and skill in self-defense often make people hesitant to approach her. Rumors circulated that she was expelled from her previous school because of her involvement in fights.

Makoto has a background in karate, which complements her resilient personality. Information

Information & Background

Makoto Kino’s journey is shaped by tragedy and resilience. She lost her parents in a plane crash during her childhood, leaving her to live independently at a young age. To support herself, she became skilled in cooking, among other things, and grew up to be a tall, strong young woman. Her physical strength and self-reliance led to rumors of her being a delinquent, which often kept others at a distance. Despite these misunderstandings, she built a meaningful friendship with Shinozaki and developed a close bond with Tomoko Takase, a budding novelist whom Makoto inspired and supported in her writing journey.

One rainy day, after facing rejection from a boy she liked, Shinozaki comforted her, solidifying their friendship. Later on, Makoto transferred to Juban Middle School, where her adventures as a Sailor Senshi began.

Sailor Moon

Makoto’s debut in the Sailor Moon series is memorable. She stands up to a group of boys bullying Usagi in Episode 25. Her transfer to Juban Middle School had sparked rumors of a violent past, which Usagi learns from Umino. After visiting the arcade, Makoto encounters Joe, a boy who reminds her of someone from her past. Following Joe outside, she witnesses him being attacked by Zoisite. Soon after, Luna identifies Makoto as one of the Sailor Guardians. With her transformation phrase, “Jupiter Power, Make Up,” she becomes Sailor Jupiter and joins the Senshi in their battles. Tragically, Makoto is the first to fall to the DD Girls, sacrificing herself in battle.

Sailor Moon R (Makai Tree Arc)

In the second season, Makoto, like her fellow Senshi, has lost her memories of past battles. She lives peacefully until Episode 48, where Luna restores her memories to face new threats. During the season, Makoto briefly falls for Ail, a mysterious new student, only to be dragged into a confrontation with his jealous partner, An. Through many battles, Makoto proves her strength and courage, often defending her friends without hesitation.

Sailor Moon R (Black Moon Arc)

In the battle against the Black Moon Clan, Makoto’s rival is Petz, who wields dark lightning and frequently joins her sister Calaveras in schemes against the Senshi. When the Senshi’s bonds irritate the Spectre Sisters, their battle intensifies. Makoto’s power grows, allowing her to wield Sparkling Wide Pressure, which helps turn the tide of their battles.

Sailor Moon S

Makoto’s infatuation with Haruka Tenou, a mysterious and strong figure, adds a new dynamic. She soon realizes Haruka’s true identity as Sailor Uranus. During a battle with Professor Tomoe’s Daimon, Makoto finds herself a target but fights bravely alongside the other Senshi. Though Makoto is at odds with Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune’s methods, she continues to fight for justice, revealing her unwavering loyalty to her friends.

Sailor Moon SuperS

In Episode 134, Makoto reconnects with Tomoko Takase, now a successful author. Her protective instincts kick in when Tomoko becomes a target for Tiger’s Eye. Through fierce battles and transformations, Makoto’s power grows, and she ultimately achieves her Super Sailor Jupiter form, defending her friends with newfound strength.

In another episode, Makoto and Minako’s friendship is tested when they develop crushes on the same man, Mr. Honjo. The situation escalates when CereCere targets him, prompting the two Senshi to reconcile and work together to protect him and his son.
