Background

Appearance in Anime
Lilia was born into a prestigious martial family in the Southern Region of the Asura Kingdom. Her parents, Augusta and Flute, owned a Water God Style dojo, where she trained from a young age. When Paul Greyrat ran away from his noble household, Augusta took him in with the intention of marrying him to Lilia and having him inherit the dojo due to his immense talent in swordsmanship. However, Paul rejected this plan and, in the midst of his escape, forced himself upon Lilia before vanishing for good.
Despite this traumatic event, Lilia moved forward and became a guard-maid at the Silver Palace in the Asura Kingdom. Her responsibilities included household duties and protection of the royal family, though her swordsmanship was only average. Unfortunately, her career came to an abrupt end when she was ambushed by an assassin targeting Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura. During the attack, Lilia was slashed in the leg by a poisoned short sword—a lethal toxin specially designed for royal assassinations. Despite the efforts of palace doctors, there was no cure for the poison, though they managed to save her life. However, the injury left her permanently weakened, preventing her from running or exerting full strength.
Deemed unfit for duty, Lilia was dismissed without hesitation. Accepting her fate, she left the capital, realizing that she had always been a disposable pawn in the political machinations of the royal court. Fearing she might become the next target in the power struggles, she fled the city and sought refuge in Fedoa, a rural province far removed from the royal family’s reach.
Upon arriving in Fedoa, Lilia struggled to find stable employment due to her injury. While she was skilled in swordsmanship, her limited mobility made it difficult to work as a dueling instructor. Instead, she pursued work as a maid, as household management offered higher wages. However, working for a high-ranking noble was too risky, as it might draw unwanted attention to her past service in the royal concubine’s palace. To avoid being used as a political tool, Lilia chose to work for a lower-class noble family, where she could live peacefully while still earning enough to support her family.
Her opportunity came when she discovered a job posting from a lower-class knight in Buena Village seeking a maid. The position prioritized candidates with experience in childcare and midwifery skills Lilia had gained during her time at the palace. Coincidentally, the knight in question was Paul Greyrat, who was frantically searching for help as his wife, Zenith Greyrat, was expecting a child. Given their past history, Paul hired Lilia immediately, trusting her background and expertise.
Lilia was warmly welcomed into the Greyrat household and compensated more generously than she expected. With Zenith’s successful childbirth, Lilia felt a sense of stability and purpose, believing she had finally secured a safe and peaceful life at least, for the time being.
Appearance
Lilia is a strikingly beautiful human woman with reddish-brown hair, which she ties up in a half-bun, allowing chest-length strands to frame either side of her shoulders. She has violet-purple eyes that give her an elegant yet reserved demeanor. Her slender yet voluptuous figure, accentuated by her very large breasts, adds to her graceful presence.
She is typically seen wearing a classic maid outfit, complete with oval-shaped glasses and a hairband adorned with lace on both sides. Her attire emphasizes her role as a dignified and disciplined household servant while maintaining an air of quiet sophistication.
Personality
Lilia is typically reserved and emotionless, a trait instilled in her during her training as a guard-maid. Her stoic demeanor allows her to maintain composure in most situations, making her an excellent and reliable maid. However, after becoming Paul Greyrat’s second wife, she gradually begins to express herself more openly, showing subtle warmth and care toward her family.
Despite her practical and disciplined nature, Lilia is also superstitious, believing in evil spirits and other supernatural phenomena. This belief influences some of her decisions, making her more cautious and wary in situations where she feels an unseen force may be at play.
Powers and Abilities
Lilia is proficient in the Water God Style, having trained under her father, Augusta, at his dojo. She reached the Intermediate rank, but her skills were not sufficient for her to qualify as an instructor.
Despite her dedication to the art, she was ultimately overshadowed by Paul Greyrat, whose exceptional talent in swordsmanship made him the preferred successor to the dojo. Augusta initially intended for Paul to marry Lilia so they could inherit and run the dojo together, but Paul’s departure ultimately disrupted those plans.
While Lilia’s combat ability was average, she was highly skilled in defensive techniques, which made her a suitable guard-maid at the Silver Palace in the Asura Kingdom. However, an injury from a poisoned blade during an assassination attempt left her with permanent damage to her leg, forcing her to retire from active combat and transition into a maid role. Though no longer a frontline fighter, her martial training still grants her enhanced awareness and reflexes, making her adept at self-defense and household security.
Plot
Lilia’s story in Mushoku Tensei is one of devotion, redemption, and duty. After accepting her role as the Greyrat family’s maid, she assisted Zenith Greyrat during childbirth and cared for their son, Rudeus Greyrat. However, she developed an immediate dislike for Rudeus due to his perverted expressions, which she found unsettling, especially when he pressed against women’s chests. She even suspected he was possessed by an evil spirit. Despite being close to Zenith, Lilia made efforts to avoid Rudeus and even discovered his hidden box of Roxy Migurdia’s panties, but she chose to remain silent about it.
Later, Lilia became pregnant with Paul Greyrat’s child, which was revealed shortly after Zenith announced her own pregnancy. She initially accepted full blame, believing that she had seduced Paul, and offered to leave the household. However, Zenith was conflicted, as traveling while pregnant during winter was dangerous. Before any decision was made, Rudeus stepped in, fabricating a story that placed all blame on Paul, sparing Lilia from exile. Although it left Paul in a difficult situation, this intervention allowed Zenith to accept Lilia as part of the family.
Grateful beyond words, Lilia who had always disliked Rudeus found herself deeply indebted to him. She realized that Rudeus had no obligation to protect her, yet he had done so selflessly. From that moment on, Lilia pledged her unwavering loyalty to Rudeus, vowing to serve him for life as a means of repaying her debt. She also resolved to raise her daughter, Aisha Greyrat, to serve Rudeus in the future. Despite her marriage to Paul Greyrat as his second wife, she continued her role as the Greyrat family’s maid. Lilia later gave birth to Aisha, mere hours after Zenith delivered Norn Greyrat.
During the Teleport Incident, Lilia was forcefully separated from the Greyrat family and transported to the Shirone Kingdom along with Aisha. They spent two and a half years detained, unable to escape or send word to their family. Their imprisonment was due to Shirone authorities suspecting them of being spies when they suddenly appeared in the Royal Palace. They were initially spared from execution because Lilia mentioned Roxy Migurdia’s and Paul Greyrat’s names, but they were placed under confinement.
Later, 7th Prince Pax Shirone interfered and imprisoned them once again, hoping to use them as bait to lure Roxy back to the kingdom. However, his plan failed, as Roxy never received word of their captivity.
During their imprisonment, Lilia trained Aisha rigorously, teaching her maid duties, etiquette, and academics so that she could one day serve Rudeus properly. In Rudeus’ perspective, Lilia even taught Aisha to use her cuteness to manipulate people, demonstrating a survival mindset.
After learning about Lilia and Aisha’s predicament from Hitogami, Rudeus traveled to Shirone Kingdom to rescue them. However, he was betrayed by Pax Shirone and captured himself. Upon hearing of his capture, Lilia attempted to rescue him, but due to her leg injury, she was overpowered and dragged away by the guards.
Later, when Pax was arrested, Lilia and Aisha were finally freed. In their reunion with Rudeus, Lilia returned his treasured “holy box”—a deeply sentimental moment that earned his heartfelt gratitude. Lilia also asked if Aisha could stay with Rudeus to serve him, but he declined, stating that she should remain with her mother until she was ready. Though reluctant, Lilia accepted his decision, believing Aisha needed further training before becoming a proper servant to Rudeus.
