While Kūga Sakurai presents himself as sweet, calm, and kind to his fans, his true personality is more arrogant, overconfident, and often insensitive to the feelings of others. His dismissive and self-centered attitude initially causes Misaki Ayuzawa to dislike him, particularly due to his disregard for Sakura Hanazono’s feelings while openly flirting with Misaki.

Over time, Kūga undergoes a change as he begins to develop genuine feelings for Sakura, realizing that she is the only one who sincerely cares for him. Despite his growing affection for her, he harbors a strong dislike for Takumi Usui, largely due to his inability to understand Takumi’s relationship with Misaki. Kūga also displays jealousy when he finds out that Takumi was alone with Sakura during their spa trip.

Kūga Sakurai is a relatively short young man with short, spiky blonde hair and reddish-brown eyes. He has multiple piercings on both his left and right ears. He is typically seen wearing his Yumesaki High School uniform but occasionally accessorizes with fashion glasses. Due to his distinct style and charismatic presence, he is considered handsome and attractive.

Kūga is the vocalist of UxMishi, an indie rock band that has gained a strong following among high school students, especially female fans. His popularity fuels his arrogance, making him believe he is above others and can get away with acting selfishly.

Sakura Hanazono, a huge fan of UxMishi, adores Kūga and supports him wholeheartedly. However, he initially takes her for granted, treating her affection as an annoyance while showering attention on Misaki instead. This behavior frustrates both Misaki and Sakura, leading to conflicts that challenge his attitude.

As the series progresses, Kūga matures and realizes the depth of Sakura’s feelings, ultimately developing genuine love for her.

Sakura Hanazono
Sakura initially harbors a deep crush on Kūga, which gradually develops into a mutual relationship over the course of the story. Despite his initial indifference toward her feelings, Kūga begins to acknowledge her sincerity and devotion.

Later in the manga, Sakura invites Kūga, along with Misaki Ayuzawa and Takumi Usui, on a one-day hot spring trip to celebrate his seventeenth birthday. During the trip, he shows signs of jealousy when he notices Sakura smiling naturally while spending time with Takumi and Misaki. Though he remains bitter for much of the outing, he eventually admits that if it had not been for Sakura, he would have been “long gone.” His growing affection becomes more evident when Misaki catches him holding hands with Sakura, indicating that their relationship has deepened.

By Chapter 85, Kūga and Sakura are married, and she is expecting their second child.

Misaki Ayuzawa
Kūga takes an immediate interest in Misaki Ayuzawa, frequently flirting with her upon their first meeting. During their initial encounter, Kūga and his bandmate Kō approach Misaki outside the restroom, where Kūga attempts to charm her. When he corners her against the wall and tries to kiss her, Takumi Usui intervenes, blocking him with a food tray and sarcastically asking, “Sorry. Would you like to order now?”

Following the incident, Kūga returns to his table and discusses Misaki with Sakura, requesting that she bring Misaki to his concert, as he wishes for her to attend. His persistent advances and insensitivity toward Sakura’s feelings initially cause friction between him and Misaki. However, as the story progresses, his character undergoes development, shifting his focus toward Sakura instead.
