Kija revealing his Dragon Claw, a symbol of his strength and divine heritage as the White Dragon Warrior
Kija is a slender and elegant young man, with long, snow-white hair that reflects his connection to the White Dragon. His pale skin and sharp, azure eyes give him an ethereal and noble appearance, befitting someone revered as a deity by his people. His most notable feature is his right arm, which is much larger than normal due to the power of the White Dragon’s blood coursing through it.
Kija typically wears traditional white and blue robes adorned with intricate patterns, symbolizing his heritage and status as the Hakuryuu. His attire emphasizes his regal demeanor, contrasting with his somewhat sheltered and naive personality.
Personality
Kija is a proud and loyal warrior, deeply committed to serving the reincarnation of King Hiryuu. Raised in isolation by his tribe, he was taught from birth to revere King Hiryuu and dedicate his life to protecting the red dragon. As a result, Kija demonstrates unwavering devotion and obedience to Yona, often addressing her with utmost respect and referring to her as his “master.”
Kija’s upbringing also instilled in him a sense of arrogance and idealism, believing that only the Dragon Warriors are worthy of protecting Yona. This initially causes friction with Hak, whose informal demeanor and lack of dragon blood challenge Kija’s preconceived notions. However, over time, Kija develops a mutual respect and friendship with Hak, learning to value teamwork and camaraderie over status.
Despite his noble and dignified exterior, Kija has a childlike side, often revealing his naivety about the outside world due to his sheltered upbringing. He is highly competitive and sometimes overly sensitive, particularly when it comes to teasing from his companions. However, his kind heart and genuine desire to protect Yona make him an invaluable member of the group.
Role in the Story
The Hakuryuu’s Village
Kija was born and raised in a hidden village that preserved the bloodline of the White Dragon. Revered as a deity by his people, Kija grew up in isolation, treated as both a protector and a leader of the tribe. His father, the previous White Dragon, passed down the power of the Hakuryuu to Kija, who accepted his role with pride and reverence.
When Yona arrives at his village and is confirmed as the reincarnation of King Hiryuu, Kija is overjoyed to finally fulfill his purpose. Without hesitation, he pledges his loyalty to Yona and eagerly joins her quest to find the other Dragon Warriors.
Journey with Yona and Hak
As the first Dragon Warrior to join Yona, Kija becomes an essential member of the group, providing both guidance and protection. However, his initial interactions with Hak are marked by tension, as Kija views Hak as unworthy of guarding Yona due to his lack of divine blood. This clash of personalities leads to frequent arguments, though they eventually develop a mutual respect and camaraderie as they fight alongside each other.
Kija’s powers, particularly the immense strength of his dragon arm, prove invaluable during battles. However, his sheltered upbringing sometimes hinders him in navigating the challenges of the outside world, requiring him to rely on the support of his companions. Over time, Kija grows more open-minded and adaptable, becoming a more well-rounded warrior and friend.
