Kidou Yuuto (鬼道 有人, Kidō Yūto) is one of the main protagonists in the Inazuma Eleven series. Initially, he serves as the midfielder and captain of Teikoku Gakuen, where he is known for his exceptional tactical skills and leadership. However, after experiencing a change of heart, he later joins Raimon as a midfielder, playing a crucial role in the team’s development. He continues to support his teammates as a key player in Second Raimon and later represents Inazuma Japan in international matches.
Appearance

Appearance in Anime
Kidou Yuuto has brown hair, which he keeps braided and tied, and red eyes. A defining aspect of his look is the goggles he always wears, which were gifted to him by Kageyama to help him focus better on the soccer ball. His signature accessory has become an iconic part of his character.
In addition to the standard soccer uniform, Kidou wears a cape draped over his shoulders, with its color varying depending on the team’s uniform. His casual attire consists of a red jacket, a black shirt, blue jeans, and combat boots, giving him a sharp yet slightly rebellious appearance.
As an adult, Kidou’s hair is longer and only partially tied up. His signature goggles are replaced by a large pair of sunglasses with green lenses, a gift from his younger sister, Haruna. His attire becomes more formal, consisting of a gray coat, gray pants, a red tie, and burgundy shoes, reflecting his more mature persona. In Inazuma Eleven GO: Galaxy, he slightly changes his look, wearing a black coat with a blue tie, maintaining his composed and sophisticated image.
Personality
At first, Kidou Yuuto comes across as shady and arrogant, showing unwavering loyalty to Kageyama, whom he obediently follows without question. However, as the series progresses, Kidou begins to see Kageyama for who he truly is. Realizing the manipulative and unethical nature of his mentor, he starts to rebel, searching the academy for traps and threatening to expose them. His shift in perspective marks his transformation into a more independent and morally driven individual.
Kidou is highly logical and strategic, earning the title of Japan’s command tower due to his genius in game analysis and tactics. He has an extraordinary ability to analyze potential opponents within minutes, adjusting his team’s positioning and commands with pinpoint accuracy. Despite his calculated nature, he deeply cares for his teammates and, above all, his younger sister, Haruna. Like any protective older brother, he is willing to do anything to help her. However, in Season 3, he undergoes an identity crisis, believing he cannot escape Kageyama’s influence. Kageyama nearly manipulates him into thinking that everything Kidou has achieved is thanks to his teachings, but Kidou ultimately overcomes this self-doubt and surpasses his former mentor.
In the manga adaptation, Kidou retains a shadier personality even after joining Raimon, often making snide remarks, sometimes ending them with “what a wimp.”
In Inazuma Eleven GO, ten years later, Kidou has become more mature and composed while still retaining some aspects of his former personality. He often reflects on the past, as seen in Episode 21, where he shares a nostalgic conversation with Endou Mamoru. As a coach, he adopts a harsher and more disciplined training style compared to Endou, initially causing many Raimon players to dislike him. However, it is later revealed that his strict regimens are carefully designed to bring out each player’s individual strengths, demonstrating that his observational and strategic abilities remain as sharp as ever.
Compared to Endou, Kidou is more of a realist than an idealist, focusing on practical results rather than purely motivational leadership. Despite their different approaches, both share a strong belief in soccer’s value and the potential of Raimon’s players, solidifying Kidou’s role as an integral mentor and strategist in the team’s journey.
Background
When Kidou Yuuto and his younger sister, Haruna, were still children, they lost their parents in a plane crash and were sent to grow up in an orphanage. Despite their difficult circumstances, Kidou was always protective of Haruna, as shown in a flashback where he fought off bullies who were picking on her. At the time, Kidou was six years old, while Haruna was five.
The only memento Kidou has from his parents is an old soccer magazine, which serves as his last remaining connection to his father. This sentimental attachment led him to start playing soccer, as he felt a sense of closeness to his father whenever he kicked the ball.
However, the siblings were eventually separated and adopted by different families. Haruna was taken in by the Otonashi family, while Kidou was scouted by Kageyama Reiji, who recognized his immense soccer talent and arranged for him to be adopted into the wealthy Kidou Financial Group. Though Kidou gained an opportunity to further his career in soccer, his true motivation was always to reunite with Haruna.
To bring his sister back, Kidou struck a deal with his adoptive father, he had to win consecutive National Championships in the Football Frontier during his three years in junior high. If he failed to win every year, he would lose the right to reclaim Haruna. Furthermore, if he lost a district match, he risked being expelled from the Kidou family altogether.
Due to this pressure and obligation, Kidou never attempted to contact Haruna, leading her to believe that she was a burden to him. However, the truth was far different, Kidou never stopped thinking about her. He endured everything in silence, holding onto his dream of one day reuniting with his sister while dedicating himself to becoming the best soccer player he could be.
