Appearance in Anime

Kazuya Kujō is the youngest son of a prestigious Japanese military family. Throughout his childhood, he lived in the shadow of his highly accomplished older brothers, striving to gain the same recognition and admiration they received. Despite his efforts, Kazuya came to realize that adults around him held a persistent bias that the youngest child is often spoiled and incapable which left him feeling overlooked and disheartened.

Disillusioned and emotionally scarred, Kazuya made the bold decision to leave the military academy in Japan. Without informing his family, he traveled to the European country of Sauville to pursue his studies at Saint Marguerite Academy. However, rather than finding a fresh start, he was met with suspicion and isolation. Due to his foreign appearance and a local superstition “the traveler who comes in spring brings death”—he was nicknamed the “Dark Reaper” by his classmates and ostracized socially.

Kazuya’s life begins to shift when he meets Victorique de Blois, an enigmatic and intellectually gifted student known for her reclusive nature. Initially put off by her arrogance and aloofness, Kazuya gradually grows fond of her and becomes her loyal companion and confidant. Over time, he develops a deep sense of protectiveness toward her. Victorique herself comes to admire Kazuya, describing him as sincere, kind-hearted, and possessing a pure soul one noble enough to acknowledge his own pride.

Despite the pain of his past, Kazuya remains proud of his heritage and identity as the son of a soldier, carrying those values with him as he navigates the mysteries and challenges of his new life in Sauville.

Appearance

Kazuya Kujō is a teenage boy with short black hair and striking burgundy eyes. While he is most often seen wearing the standard uniform of Saint Marguerite Academy, his wardrobe also includes conservative attire typical of young men in Sauville. His usual outfit consists of long-sleeved shirts layered over light-colored undershirts, complemented by neckties, coats, and either breeches or slacks. He is frequently seen wearing a narrow-brimmed hat, adding to his reserved and formal appearance.

Personality

Kazuya Kujō is a kind-hearted and sincere individual, often soft-spoken and respectful toward others. He takes great pride in being the son of an Imperial soldier and strives to live according to the ideals of honor and discipline instilled in him from a young age. His strong sense of duty and moral integrity often guide his actions.

Despite his generally polite and composed nature, Kazuya can become blunt or unintentionally harsh when irritated, occasionally speaking without thinking and hurting others with his words. This contrast reflects both his emotional sensitivity and his struggle to assert himself.

Kazuya also demonstrates an uneven memory. While he excels at recalling key details useful in solving mysteries and complex situations, he often struggles to retain information unrelated to investigations. This selective recall becomes both a quirk and a useful trait in his role as Victorique’s companion in solving various cases.

Relationships

Victorique de Blois
Victorique is Kazuya’s closest companion and the central figure in his life during his time at Saint Marguerite Academy. Their relationship begins with mutual skepticism Kazuya initially finds Victorique arrogant and difficult, while Victorique mocks his simplicity. However, over time, their bond deepens into genuine affection and trust. Kazuya becomes fiercely protective of Victorique, often acting as her link to the outside world, and supporting her both emotionally and physically during investigations. Victorique, in turn, comes to rely on Kazuya and regards him as a comforting presence. She often describes him as sincere, pure-hearted, and someone whose soul is beautiful. Their relationship gradually evolves from reluctant partnership to heartfelt love.

Grevil de Blois
Grevil, Victorique’s older half-brother and a police inspector, shares a strained relationship with Kazuya. Though initially dismissive and condescending, Grevil eventually comes to respect Kazuya’s dedication to Victorique and his involvement in solving complex cases. Their dynamic shifts from adversarial to begrudging cooperation as the series progresses.

Cecile Lafitte
Cecile is Kazuya’s homeroom teacher at Saint Marguerite Academy. She is one of the few adults who treats him kindly from the beginning and acts as a supportive figure to both him and Victorique. While she is often overwhelmed by the pair’s adventures, Cecile expresses concern and care for Kazuya’s well-being.
