Kakeru Ryūen (龍園 翔, Ryūen Kakeru) is the class representative of Class 1-C at Advanced Nurturing High School in the Classroom of the Elite series. Unlike other leaders who gain authority through respect and trust, Ryūen rules his class through fear and intimidation. He is widely recognized as an infamous delinquent, maintaining control over Class 1-C through manipulation, coercion, and physical dominance.
Ryūen commands a group of loyal henchmen who carry out his orders, further cementing his reputation as a ruthless and cunning strategist. His unorthodox leadership style sets him apart from other class leaders, making him one of the most formidable figures in the school’s power dynamics.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Kakeru Ryūen is a manipulative and ruthless individual who thrives on causing trouble for others. Unlike most class representatives who rely on trust and cooperation, Ryūen leads through fear and coercion, treating his classmates as pawns in his quest for dominance. His blameworthy and reprehensible nature is evident when he deliberately engineered a conflict with Ken Sudō in an attempt to have him expelled, showcasing his willingness to sacrifice others to serve his own interests.
Ryūen also possesses a sadistic streak, taking pleasure in intimidating and humiliating those he sees as weaker. This is seen when he pretended to attack Sudō, only to flick him on the forehead while laughing at his fear. His cruelty extends even to his own subordinates, as demonstrated when he smashed a glass bottle over the head of one of his followers, showing no remorse for the act. These actions highlight his cold and pragmatic approach, viewing his allies as disposable tools to further his ambitions.
His disrespectful and insubordinate nature is evident in his interactions with others, such as when he spoke condescendingly to Suzune Horikita and Mio Ibuki, even ordering Albert Yamada to throw Ibuki to the ground when she confronted him. He enjoys asserting dominance over others and has no hesitation in using physical force or psychological manipulation to achieve his goals.
Despite his brutal and intimidating nature, Ryūen is far from reckless. He possesses sharp tactical intelligence and is highly skilled at covering his tracks. This is demonstrated when Honami Ichinose witnessed one of his violent acts, yet he quickly justified his actions as self-defense, ensuring that no consequences fell upon him. His ability to devise unconventional and ruthless strategies makes him a formidable adversary, as seen when he and one of his followers attacked an injured subordinate who failed to frame Ken Sudō, eliminating potential loose ends.
Ryūen is also highly calculative when assessing threats, knowing when to avoid direct conflict. He chose not to pick a fight with Class 1-A when Manabu Horikita, the Student Council president, was present, recognizing that it was not the right time to challenge them. Similarly, he acknowledges that he is not yet strong enough to take on Arisu Sakayanagi, opting to bide his time until he can surpass her.
Appearance
Kakeru Ryūen is a young man of average height with shoulder-length magenta hair, which is styled on either side, giving him a distinct and intimidating look. His sharp magenta-colored eyes are striking and evoke fear and trepidation in those who come into contact with him. In addition to his intense gaze, he has a slim yet muscular physique, reflecting his physical strength and combat readiness.
Abilities
Leadership and Influence
Kakeru Ryūen is an infamous delinquent and strategist who has amassed a loyal group of followers through intimidation and coercion rather than trust. As Class 1-C’s representative, he rules his classmates through fear, ensuring that they follow his orders without question. His dominance over his class is a key factor in their competitiveness, as it is implied that without his leadership, Class 1-C would descend into chaos.
Intellectual Abilities
Despite his violent tendencies, Ryūen is highly intelligent and excels in strategic manipulation and tactical planning. He successfully forged an alliance with Kōhei Katsuragi during the special survival test, using their partnership to gain an advantage. As part of his strategy, he planted spies within Classes 1-B and 1-D, gathering intelligence on the leaders of opposing groups without their knowledge. This plan enabled him to accumulate class points while keeping his identity hidden. His strategy outplayed Suzune Horikita and would have succeeded had it not been for Kiyotaka Ayanokōji’s intervention.
His manipulative skills extend beyond short-term strategies. Over time, he convinced Kōhei Katsuragi to abandon Class 1-A and join Class 1-C by exploiting his history with Arisu Sakayanagi. This demonstrated Ryūen’s ability to exploit personal weaknesses and use persuasion to shift allegiances.
Despite his arrogance, Ryūen is pragmatic and willing to accept losses if they come with a long-term advantage. This was evident when he intentionally lost an exam after striking a deal with Sakayanagi, agreeing to her request in exchange for her owing him a favor.
Physical Abilities
Ryūen is physically strong and highly skilled in combat, making him one of the strongest students in the first-year classes. His dominance over Daichi Ishizaki, a notorious middle school delinquent, further reinforces his intimidating presence. He also overpowered Mio Ibuki, despite her martial arts training and reputation as the strongest second-year female student. He effortlessly withstood her attacks, not even flinching when she attempted to kick him.
In Volume 7, Ryūen engaged in a brawl with Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, demonstrating self-taught combat skills incorporating techniques from various martial arts disciplines. However, despite his impressive adaptability and fighting instincts, he was completely outclassed by Kiyotaka, who swiftly overpowered him and brutally defeated him.
Kiyotaka also remarked that Ryūen’s ability to control someone as powerful as Albert Yamada through sheer influence suggested exceptional manipulative talents, as Albert’s loyalty could not have been obtained through physical strength alone.
Additionally, Ryūen was able to stall Kazuomi Hōsen, a student considered to be on Albert Yamada’s level in combat, further proving his combat efficiency despite not being the strongest fighter in the school.
Etymology
The name Kakeru (翔) is composed of the kanji 翔, meaning “soar” or “fly”, which can symbolize ambition, freedom, and the desire to rise above others, a fitting representation of Ryūen’s ruthless drive for dominance within Advanced Nurturing High School.
His surname, Ryūen (龍園), consists of the kanji 龍 (ryū), meaning “dragon”, and 園 (en), meaning “garden”. The dragon is often associated with power, strength, and fearsome presence, which aligns with Ryūen’s intimidating leadership style and commanding influence over Class 1-C. Meanwhile, garden may contrast with his violent nature, possibly hinting at a hidden depth or control over his environment, much like how he carefully manipulates situations to his advantage.
