Kabura Honda (本田 カブラ, Honda Kabura), is a supporting character in the manga and anime series Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta). A composed and enigmatic vampire, Kabura is a member of Nico Hirata’s clique, a group of socially active vampires who live among humans. Originally a human patient suffering from chronic illness, Kabura’s life changed dramatically after she fell in love with Haru Nanakusa, a vampire doctor. Following her transformation into a vampire, Kabura was entrusted with raising Haru’s child, Nazuna Nanakusa, taking on a maternal role that would define much of her long existence.
Kabura plays a pivotal role in the story as a bridge between Nazuna’s forgotten past and the present, offering crucial insights into Nazuna’s origins and her emotional complexities. Despite her poised demeanor, Kabura is deeply invested in Nazuna’s well-being and subtly supports Kou Yamori’s journey toward becoming Nazuna’s companion.
Background

Appearance in anime
In her human life, Kabura was a patient at the hospital where Haru Nanakusa worked. During her prolonged treatment, Kabura developed deep admiration and affection for Haru, who was secretly a vampire. When Kabura’s condition deteriorated beyond treatment, Haru transformed her into a vampire not out of cruelty, but out of compassion.
Not long after, Haru entrusted Kabura with a monumental responsibility: raising Nazuna Nanakusa, Haru’s biological child. Kabura accepted this role and served both as caretaker and emotional guardian, guiding Nazuna through childhood while continuing to work as a nurse at the same hospital, seamlessly blending into human society.
Though Haru’s disappearance and Nazuna’s emotional detachment created a rift between them, Kabura never stopped caring for Nazuna. When Kou Yamori enters Nazuna’s life, Kabura becomes a key figure in uncovering Nazuna’s past and helping both of them navigate the complex emotions surrounding love, family, and identity.
Appearance
Kabura has a mature and elegant appearance, with long dark hair, usually worn tied back, and sharp, almond-shaped eyes. Her features are composed, reflecting her professional demeanor as a nurse, and she is often seen in hospital attire or simple, modest clothing. Despite her vampire nature, she maintains a calm and human-like presence, blending into her surroundings with ease.
Her body language is reserved and graceful, but her expressions can shift subtly to reflect her inner warmth especially when speaking about Haru or Nazuna.
Personality
Kabura is composed, wise, and emotionally restrained, often appearing distant or analytical. She speaks in a calm, almost clinical tone, and tends to approach situations with logic rather than passion. However, beneath her cool exterior lies deep compassion, particularly for those she considers family.
She is incredibly loyal, especially to Haru, whose wishes she has honored for decades. Kabura’s bond with Nazuna is complex she sees Nazuna as a daughter but struggles to express affection in traditional ways, in part due to Nazuna’s resistance to emotional closeness.
As a vampire, Kabura is well-adapted to modern life, balancing her supernatural identity with a grounded role in human society. She is not quick to violence, but her insight and emotional intelligence make her a powerful influence on those around her.
