Julie Sigtuna (ユリエ・シグトゥーナ, Yurie Shigutūna) is the main female protagonist of the Absolute Duo series. She is introduced as a princess from the European nation of Gimlé. Julie enrolls at Kouryou Academy in Japan with the goal of becoming stronger so that she can avenge her father’s death. To achieve this, she seeks guidance from Tor Kokonoe and requests his help in mastering his ultimate technique, known as the Final Move.
Personality

Appearance in Anime
Julie is characterized by her quiet and graceful presence, which often gives her an aura of refinement and mystery. She tends to be reserved around others, speaking softly and displaying a natural shyness that makes her appear gentle and approachable. Despite her quiet nature, Julie demonstrates a strong sense of determination, particularly when it comes to her personal mission of avenging her father’s death.
From her first encounter with Tor Kokonoe, Julie shows an unusual interest in him, forming a connection that gradually becomes one of trust and reliance. Tor, in turn, is captivated by her unique beauty and kind disposition. Unlike many of her peers, Julie rarely allows negative emotions to dictate her actions. She remains calm even in situations that might provoke jealousy or conflict, such as when Lilith Bristol asked Tor to be her Duo, reflecting her composed and understanding personality.
Julie’s kindness is most evident in her willingness to listen and offer support to Tor, valuing their partnership both in combat and in personal matters. Their Duo relationship allows her to open up more than she typically would, as she recognizes the similarities in their goals and struggles. Although she is not outspoken, Julie conveys warmth through her actions and loyalty, making her one of the most empathetic and trustworthy figures in the series.
Appearance
Julie is often regarded as exceptionally beautiful, with her peers likening her to a doll due to her delicate and refined features. She has long silver hair that extends down to her hips, usually styled in twin tails adorned with black ribbon bells on each side. Her complexion is pale, frequently described as being as white as snow, which contrasts strikingly with her vivid ruby-red eyes. These features contribute to her striking and elegant presence, often drawing attention whenever she appears in public. Despite this, Julie herself seems largely unaware of the effect her beauty has on others.
At Kouryou Academy, Julie typically wears the standard school uniform, blending in with her fellow students during class and official activities. In more private settings, particularly when staying in the dormitory she shares with Tor, she is shown in simpler attire, such as a long-sleeved shirt used as pajamas. Her understated choice of clothing outside of the academy uniform highlights her modesty and preference for comfort over fashion.
Background
Julie was born as the princess of Gimlé and spent her early years living peacefully with her parents. She often described her childhood as a happy one, surrounded by the warmth of her family. However, her life took a tragic turn at a young age when she witnessed her father’s murder at the hands of an unknown assailant. During the same incident, she sustained a scar on her back, which became a lasting reminder of the trauma she endured and the loss she suffered.
This event defined Julie’s motivations and shaped her path forward. Determined to avenge her father’s death, she resolved to become stronger and seek out the power necessary to confront the one responsible. Her decision ultimately led her to enroll at Kouryou Academy in Japan, a school where students train to master their Blaze abilities. There, she dedicates herself to honing her skills while keeping her father’s memory and her vow for justice at the center of her ambitions.
Abilities
Julie is a highly skilled fighter whose combat style reflects both precision and elegance. Her abilities revolve around her Blaze, which manifests in the form of dual swords, as well as special techniques tied to her emotions and determination.
Blaze – Twin Blades (ツイン・ブレード, Tsuinburēdo)
Julie’s Blaze takes the form of twin swords, commonly referred to as the “Twin Blades” or “Double Blades.” She demonstrates great proficiency in dual-wielding techniques, using quick and fluid consecutive slashes to overwhelm her opponents. Her refined swordsmanship allows her to maintain pressure in combat while exploiting openings with speed and accuracy.
Wind Jerzu
Wind Jerzu represents the true potential of Julie’s Blaze. By utilizing this ability, she gains the power to kick against the air itself, enabling her to maneuver freely while airborne. This allows her to evade attacks from above, close distances quickly, and strike opponents in midair, granting her remarkable versatility in battle.
Julie’s Fang (Curse of the Fang)
This form manifests when Julie is overcome by the memory of her father’s death, fueling her with heightened power. In this state, her speed and the destructive strength of her Twin Blades are significantly enhanced, making her a far more formidable opponent. However, the transformation comes at a cost, as it also inflicts harm on her body, reflecting the dangerous toll of channeling such overwhelming emotions into combat.
Relationships
Tooru Kokonoe
Julie shares a close bond with Tōru, who is both her roommate and her official Duo partner. She sees aspects of her late father in him, which strengthens her resolve to protect him just as he vows to protect her. Both characters are motivated by a desire for revenge, having each lost loved ones in tragic circumstances. This shared goal deepens their connection, and they promise to support one another until the end. Their partnership is central to Julie’s growth, both as a fighter and as an individual capable of trust and companionship.
Lilith Bristol
Julie and Lilith have a complex relationship, alternating between rivalry and camaraderie. While they are classmates and allies in many situations, tension arises due to their mutual connection to Tōru. Julie recognizes Lilith’s interest in him, which makes them rivals on a personal level. Nevertheless, when Tōru’s well-being or happiness is at stake, they are capable of setting aside their differences and cooperating.
Tomoe Tachibana
Julie initially sought Tomoe as her permanent Duo partner, but Tomoe declined, having already chosen Miyabi Hotaka. Despite this, Julie and Tomoe developed a strong friendship, maintaining a mutual respect for one another. Their bond demonstrates Julie’s ability to form meaningful connections outside of her Duo partnership.
Miyabi Hotaka
Julie and Miyabi are good friends who often share meals together in the academy cafeteria. Miyabi, who is shy and uneasy around boys due to her upbringing in all-girls’ schools, finds comfort in Julie’s kindness and understanding. Their friendship is marked by casual conversations and support within the group.
Rito Tsukimi
Rito serves as Julie’s instructor at Kouryou Academy, though their relationship is not limited to teacher and student. During the academy’s first combat exercise, Julie and Tōru faced Rito in battle, testing both her abilities and her resolve. This encounter reinforced Julie’s commitment to her training and highlighted her growth under the academy’s rigorous system.
