Appearance
John H. Watson is a young man with short ash-blond hair and brown eyes. He typically dresses in a green three-piece suit paired with a brown vest, maintaining a neat and classic style. He often carries a cane, although Sherlock Holmes frequently points out that it is unnecessary for him. Watson stands at an above-average height of 5’10” (179 cm).
Personality
John H. Watson is intelligent, sociable, and grounded in a strong sense of morality. In contrast to Sherlock Holmes’s often questionable methods, Watson firmly adheres to the law and ethical standards. He is deeply disturbed when Sherlock considers killing for the sake of obtaining information, and after Sherlock eventually commits murder, Watson confronts him, warning that the weight of the act will remain with him forever.
A former army doctor who served in the Afghan War, Watson carries emotional scars and lingering trauma from his experiences, which initially caused him to rely on a cane for support despite having physically healed.
Before meeting Mary Morstan, John was known to be quite popular with women. Sherlock often remarks on this, noting that Watson frequently carried the scent of different women’s perfumes.
Origin
John H. Watson is inspired by Dr. Watson, the iconic companion of Sherlock Holmes from Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories. In Moriarty the Patriot, John adopts the pen name “Conan Doyle” as a tribute to the real-life author, publishing the accounts of Sherlock Holmes’s cases under this alias.
Relationships
Sherlock Holmes
John is Sherlock’s closest friend and trusted companion. While he greatly respects Sherlock’s deductive abilities, he often acts as a moral anchor, reminding him of ethical boundaries. Despite being shocked and disapproving of some of Sherlock’s more extreme actions, John remains a loyal supporter, offering guidance and emotional support when needed.
Mary Morstan
Mary is John’s wife and a significant source of happiness in his life. After meeting her, John settles into a more peaceful existence, balancing his work as a doctor and novelist while building a life with her. Their relationship is portrayed as warm and stable, providing John with much-needed emotional grounding.
