Personality

John H. Watson is intelligent, sociable, and grounded in a strong sense of morality. In contrast to Sherlock Holmes’s often questionable methods, Watson firmly adheres to the law and ethical standards. He is deeply disturbed when Sherlock considers killing for the sake of obtaining information, and after Sherlock eventually commits murder, Watson confronts him, warning that the weight of the act will remain with him forever.

A former army doctor who served in the Afghan War, Watson carries emotional scars and lingering trauma from his experiences, which initially caused him to rely on a cane for support despite having physically healed.

Before meeting Mary Morstan, John was known to be quite popular with women. Sherlock often remarks on this, noting that Watson frequently carried the scent of different women’s perfumes.

Origin

John H. Watson is inspired by Dr. Watson, the iconic companion of Sherlock Holmes from Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories. In Moriarty the Patriot, John adopts the pen name “Conan Doyle” as a tribute to the real-life author, publishing the accounts of Sherlock Holmes’s cases under this alias.
