Jabber Wonger with his Vital Instrument, Mankira’s Suppressed Form

Jabber is depicted as a sadomasochistic and psychotic fighter with an unrelenting obsession for battle. He typically enters combat with a wide grin, reveling in the violence and chaos of the encounter. Jabber only acknowledges opponents he deems strong, showing respect for fighters such as Zanka Nijiku, while dismissing those he considers weak such as Gris, whom he declared “wasn’t worth anything” after defeating him.

In his past, Jabber regularly sought out fights with those stronger than himself, eventually surpassing all of his challengers. Rather than satisfying him, this left him frustrated, as he found the most enjoyment in battles where he was brutally beaten and pushed to the brink. He openly admits that enduring extreme pain “energizes” him more than anything else. To recapture this feeling, he deliberately restrains the full power of his Vital Instrument, Mankira, to prolong the challenge of combat.

On the rare occasions when Jabber encounters an opponent capable of matching him, he becomes ecstatic at the opportunity to fight at his full strength. In such moments, he abandons all restraint, unleashing unbridled brutality and showing complete disregard for allies, enemies, or his own background.

Appearance

Jabber is a tall, slim young man with light brown skin and striking hot pink eyes. His most distinguishing feature is his extremely long brown dreadlocks, which are adorned with golden-yellow rings. His eccentric sense of style is reflected in his clothing, which is made from indigo fabric stitched together in a mismatched pattern.

His outfit consists of a beige crop top with wide, open sleeves, a quilted chest section, and three asymmetrical collars. Around his waist, he wears a purple belt that drapes behind him like a cape, reinforced with additional leather straps. He pairs this with baggy dark purple trousers, sewn with beige patches in a similarly mismatched design, and brown shoes.

Jabber’s most notable accessories are the ten silver rings he wears one on each finger which together form his Vital Instrument, Mankira.

History

Little is known about Jabber’s life prior to joining the Raiders, though fragments of his past suggest he grew up with an insatiable desire to fight stronger opponents. He regularly sought out challengers who could overpower him, relishing battles where he was beaten down and pushed to his limits. Over time, however, Jabber surpassed those around him, leaving him dismayed by the lack of opponents capable of inflicting the pain he craved. To maintain the thrill of combat, he began holding back the true potential of his Vital Instrument, Mankira, in order to prolong his fights.

Jabber serves as a frontline combatant for the Raiders and plays a major role in several arcs of the series. He is introduced as the primary antagonist of the Raiders Trap Arc, where his sadistic fighting style and obsession with pain make him a particularly dangerous adversary. He later returns as a supporting antagonist during the Trash Storm Arc and the Information Broker Arc, continuing to clash with the Cleaners and showcasing his unrestrained brutality in battle.

Relationships

Rudo Surebrec
Jabber views Rudo with a mix of curiosity and hostility. Initially underestimating him, Jabber grows increasingly intrigued as Rudo demonstrates resilience and creativity in battle. Their clashes highlight Jabber’s philosophy of respecting only those strong enough to endure him, with Rudo gradually earning his recognition through persistence.

Zanka Nijiku
Jabber shows respect toward Zanka, recognizing him as one of the few fighters worthy of acknowledgment. Their encounters are marked by mutual recognition of strength, with Jabber relishing the challenge Zanka provides. Despite his admiration, Jabber remains brutal and unrestrained, seeking to push Zanka to his limits in combat.

Gris
Unlike his treatment of Zanka or Rudo, Jabber dismisses Gris as weak and unworthy. After defeating him, Jabber coldly remarked that Gris “wasn’t worth anything,” reflecting his disregard for those he deems beneath him.

Abilities

Overall Skill Level
Jabber is regarded as one of the most dangerous members of the Raiders, noted for his combination of speed, precision, and lethal efficiency in battle. Even when facing multiple experienced Cleaners, he stands out as a formidable adversary, wielding his Vital Instrument with impressive dexterity. He often suppresses its true power to prolong combat, seeking to maximize his enjoyment from a fight.

Enhanced Strength
Jabber’s raw strength, combined with the claw-like attacks generated by his Vital Instrument, enables him to cut through solid rock and unleash devastating blows capable of leveling his surroundings. His strikes are powerful enough to overwhelm opponents like Zanka Nijiku, who himself is capable of killing Trash Beasts with a single hit, yet still struggled to block Jabber’s attacks.

Enhanced Durability and Endurance
Jabber possesses extraordinary resilience, fueled by his masochistic tendencies. He can endure extreme injuries and multiple consecutive strikes from Vital Instruments without losing the ability to fight. He has shrugged off pain that would incapacitate most fighters, only showing discomfort when Zanka broke one of his ribs or when Riyo Reaper repeatedly shot him. Even then, Riyo remarked that such injuries would not be enough to kill him. His endurance also allows him to quickly recover from being buried under rubble and return to combat without hesitation.

Enhanced Speed
Among Jabber’s most notable attributes is his extraordinary speed. He is capable of moving faster than the eye can follow, blitzing opponents in an instant and overwhelming them before they can react. This ability makes him especially dangerous in close-quarters combat, where his sudden bursts of movement can catch even seasoned fighters off guard.

Trivia

    • Jabber enjoys spicy food, fighting strong opponents, and harbors a twisted enjoyment of murderous intent directed at himself.
      • He dislikes those he deems weak or uninteresting.
      • His name, “Jabber Wonger,” may reference Jabberwocky, the nonsense poem by Lewis Carroll. The creature in the poem is described as having “claws that catch,” which may have inspired the design of Mankira, Jabber’s claw-like Vital Instrument.
