Personality

Kondou is known for his affable and carefree personality, often prioritizing his personal interests over his duties as commander. Despite his laid-back approach, he commands the respect and loyalty of the Shinsengumi members, who view him as a father figure. Bruised and bloodied but still standing tall, Isao Kondou embodies resilience and strength, his unwavering spirit shining through even in the aftermath of a fierce fight.

Role in the Shinsengumi:
Although Kondou is the commander, he often leaves the day-to-day operations to his vice-commander, Toushirou Hijikata, who is responsible for maintaining discipline among the ranks. Kondou’s tendency to shirk responsibilities can create chaos within the organization, prompting Hijikata to step in and restore order. Nevertheless, his leadership is marked by a genuine concern for his subordinates and a desire to see the Shinsengumi thrive.

Notable Actions

During the tumultuous period of Nobu Nobu’s reign, Kondou demonstrated his loyalty to his comrades by entrusting Gintoki with a message intended for his fellow former Shinsengumi members. He urged them to continue pushing forward and to remain vigilant in protecting Edo, even after the disbandment of the Shinsengumi. This act highlights his unwavering dedication to his team, emphasizing the importance of their mission beyond their formal roles.
